    • @theportlandflyshop
      @theportlandflyshop 3 месяца назад

      The little nano light struggles. The bench light is good, but you'll have to check the battery often. If the battery is low, it will still light the LED, but won't do whatever voodoo it needs to cure. Try a fresh battery and see if it cures for you.

    • @gwarren3

    Really appreciate the video. I am signed up for a guide school in May. I think I hopefully possess some qualities that would make me a good guide. Probably my biggest worry ATM is that I am not a straight ninja fly angler who kills it way harder than everyone else around me. Is becoming someone who can very confidently put people on fish consistently something you can learn through the job or do you think it is a must that your the best fly angler you know before becoming a guide. I would say personally if I'm being straight up that I'm a fair to good fly angler, not a complete pro. Be straight up, is that a big problem. Again thank you for the video. I've been considering so many different roads to go down lately but my heart is in the guiding goal but I'm not a spring chicken anymore goin on 32 so the real deal advice is much appreciated 🙏

    • @theportlandflyshop
      @theportlandflyshop 5 месяцев назад

      A fair to good angler when you start is more than enough to get going. Most are in that category when they start. I've seen a lot of really green 1st years become studs after a while. I wouldn't worry about that at all. You'll get on the job training every day. As long as you make an honest effort every day, you'll get very good, fast. On slow days, keep changing flies, trying different water, etc. I don't know anyone who started guiding as a ninja. They may have thought they were, but after 5 years, you know a ton more, if that makes sense. Don't be nervous about what you don't know. Get the boat wet, go down river and start casting. Work from there.

    • @theportlandflyshop
      @theportlandflyshop 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for cheing us out! To answer your question: running the scissors down the top side of the feather will fold the fibers back so they lay rearward as you wrap the feather. It won't matter as much on softer fibers, but if you're using saddle (stiffer feather) instead of schlappen, the collar will stick straight up, instead of facing rearward.
