I thought the black and white levels were late, late night levels where there was no light at all. In hindsight, they could’ve been snow levels. Or bowser “sucked all the life” out of the levels. 🤷‍♂️

a lesser man might, idk, keep restarting this leg of the series if they ever Game Over'd, since its such a short game to get through. can we ever be certain this was the Dry Run? that there was even a possibility of seeing all those points lost that wouldnt just go straight in the trash? we may never know.
