This is SUCH a cool project. It really helps to underscore just how much effort it takes to be able to land all of these, AND how one hard level in the middle makes it vastly more difficult / unlikely for someone to get that as WELL as everything afterwards in a single run. Fantastic work!!
Bismuth feels good being mentioned many times :P Was funny seeing all of your record splits, just to know what you'd be close to in a perfect non-edited run. Then i can't wait for new strats and you getting better yourself. Too bad i can't watch streams on this computer.
That jump in 3-4. I was a dumb kid and never checked for invisible blocks underneath, I just played the level over and over again until I made the damn jump. It took ages to beat that level the first time. Probably not the 11 hours you spent in 7-4 though, lol. And then once you do get past it and confirm it's possible, it looks like intended route.
This reminded me of 'Men who stare at goats'. With enough training and mental fortitude you can actually go through walls. Need to be on the right subpixel though...gg
are there single world-sections ( I'm not sure what those are usually called ) speedruns that can be done where you would try to implement some of these really tough strats into? Like a world 7 speedrun where the perfect springs in 7-3 would be implemented in addition to the crazy clips in the 7-4 castle.
I'm both glad and sad to see this project is complete. I enjoyed the vibes at the end - "world record is there for anyone who wants it." I hope enough people can appreciate the value of this work. It doesn't fit in any category and didn't need to be put together at all but it was made anyway. None of this was done by a machine - there's proof right here that time can be saved with just some of these executed. Good luck out there with the runs, folks!
Love the channel.... With the amount of time you spent saying that you didn't have time to explain everything I think you could have explained some stuff lol I'm new to all this timing and speed running... what is the name of the program you're using to time your runs? Is there a video explaining all that for newbies?
I don't have patience to watch or know if you've addressed it - are you playing brick fix or native cart? How do you avoid the 'broken' physics with blocks compared to the NES version?
There is a soft lock doing bulletbill glitch or fullflagpole glitch is because in the nes version it’s touching a block but in all stars it doesn’t work like that, idk how it works but in nes u just touch a block to trigger the timer counting down but with all stars it doesn’t work like that
It blows my mind that wall clips and flagpole glitches are still possible on a next generation console and complete remake of the game. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what enables these glitches, but I would've guessed that hardware and programming differences would've fixed them. Apparently they left the physics untouched?
I'm not a speedrunner, but I know my way around DaVinci Resolve. Kosmic said it and mentioned the scewed sound it would make, and the black frames were visible. I also saw Carl Jobsts take on that. But I really wonder if it would be so hard to make a spliced speedrun that would be almost impossible to find out. Shure the many hundred takes, those twitch streamers do, wouldn't be great for such a forge, cuz they do it all live. I'm pretty shure, if someone took the efford, you could forge a pretty impossible to detect speedrun of any Mario game. Am I wrong?
I know it's like almost frame perfect but could you do regular fpg in world 9 levels? (not full fpg because softlock) edit: he does in 9-4 also why no pipe cutscene in a-2 does that always happen?
14:15 Actually you can simply jump into any block to the right of an invisible block and get in without slowdown. Like at the end of SMB1 5-1 at the 1UP block
Is there not a way you can break the flag at the end? So instead of sliding down it you can somehow jump through it and the victory music immediately plays and Mario just walks into the house.
One of the early levels and 7-3 showed R=J is that frame rule really not doable? it's sooo close... Maybe FPG is worth it there in the context of a spliced run?
The Super Mario Bros games are so weird for speedruns. Thanks to the frame rules, there are a lot of optimizations that let you beat a level faster, but don't actually affect the overall time.

you just have to respect the fact that an Italian toilet mechanic can move at these speeds
yeah, I know I said toilet mechanic
You mean Italian Chris Pratt toilet engineer right?
It is canon, due to Super Mario 2, that Mario in his dreams moves slower and jumps much shorter than his brother Luigi.

Whats the difference between this game and the lost levels with the original smb graphics?
Such a good video! Very well done.
Has anyone ever made a “human theory TAS”?
How many non-gliched worlds are actually in smb2j?
12.
You should make an effort to bring more people into speed running this game. Greatest Mario game of all time in my opinion
Could you have done a fast accel in 7-3 to save a framerule, as you were remainder J (remainder 19) and fast accel saves two frames?
14:15 Actually you can simply jump into any block to the right of an invisible block and get in without slowdown. Like at the end of SMB1 5-1 at the 1UP block
That is not how it works on the All Stars version
@@Kosmicd12 Oh i see, thanks!
