      Thanks for the support! Great to hear this stuff is achieving what I’m trying to do - I quit playing Grim Dawn so many times during my first hundred hours because I had no clue about any of the basics, hit a frustration wall on every character in Act 2 and couldn’t figure out how anyone could manage to get good at the game. Every ‘how to’ video I make for new players is one I wish I’d watched when I was starting out.

    I've tried several times to get into this game but always given up after not fully understanding how damage works.

    Gonna TRY to keep this laconic, but for a long time now I've been trying to get into grim dawn but just felt too overwhelmed with all the systems. I stubbled across your videos because I redownloaded the game; I don't know why, but the WAY you go about your videos helps me understand everything so much better. You always go off on all the details so well and really go into the nitty-gritty and I love that. Your videos are approachable and make the game more approachable. Been totally binging all your videos on GD, so thanks for doing what you do homie!
    Edit: Also, I agree another commenter that your videos are relaxing and chill to watch.

      Good to hear people find this stuff relaxing to watch - I tried commenting from scripts but it never felt natural and I sound like a sarcastic newsreader in most of the scripted videos. I now tend to record a lot of raw footage and edit out the majority of off-topic rambling, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do a ‘quick’ video that is under 30 minutes 👊😜

    Agree with the other comments. I've been trying many times to get into grim dawn but the systems feel complicated and make me less engaged with the game. Hard to desire and appreciate loot that I get if I don't know how it exactly impacts my character. This video is a godsend and thanks for taking the time to make it. Subbed and belled. Will be watching your other videos and then back into GD with new found appreciation.

      Yeah, I know what you mean. Just keep an eye on your resistances (Elite reduces the top row - shown on character tab 1) by 25% - elemental, poison and piercing can all be quite dangerous early on.

      Thanks for the comment - please feel free to make a mess all over the comment section, I love reading this stuff 👊😜
      For pets, yes if something has a ‘bonus to all pets’ that’s generally going to be what you need. It gets more complicated (because it’s Grim Dawn) but any gear, skills, components, augments or devotions that specify ‘pets’ will apply to pets and not to your own character’s damage/defence etc. There are other skills/items that buff ‘allies’ and these generally affect any ally (pet or co-op players in multiplayer, or friendly NPCs) within a specified distance from the player character.

    I am confused, is main hand damage the same as weapon damage? Also, another thing that is confusing "fire strike" doesn't deal lightning damage, yet it picks up lightning damage from the weapon? So if Fire Strike is used, it will also cause lightning damage?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  8 месяцев назад +1

      Grim Dawn is good at using more than one description for the same thing. Weapon damage (and main-hand damage) mean the damage done by a weapon, but depending on the context can also mean the portion of damage done by a skill that factors in weapon damage.
      The Fire Strike question - any skill that incorporates a percentage of weapon damage (and it can be higher than 100% depending on the skill) will deal the same damage type(s) that the weapon deals. Any damage conversions active will be applied after the flat damage is calculated.

  • @LichterLohe
    @LichterLohe 10 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the explanaitions!
    I learnt a lot.
    But i was wonderign about devotion , which don´t have an active ability. Such as: " +100 trauma damage over 5 seconds,", by the shiedlmaiden . Its flat and not %. So when does it get applied?
    With any attack/spell or just autoa attacks or just any ability, which in coorperates trauma damage or jsut applied, wheneverthe shield blocks? (because the constellation requzuires a shield)
    vs
    But the "anvil stars "have no requirements and just says + 60 trauma damage over 5 seconds.
    Any difference between the two?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  10 месяцев назад

      Any flat damage value on a devotion that is not part of a devotion skill is added to weapon damage. However, many mastery skills include a percentage of weapon damage so the equivalent percentage of the added flat damage will be included in the damage done by the skill. I’m obviously simplifying the explanation because it’s Grim Dawn and nothing is as simple as it could be!

  • @NotSoFast71
    @NotSoFast71 Год назад

    In the beginning of the video where you are boosting the damage of Fire Strike, since the skill buffs physical damage by 47%, would it not be better to use a weapon that actually does physical damage instead of solely elemental? It’s also probably where the “mystery” extra damage comes from when using the starter dagger. It does some physical damage and it’s buffed nearly by half from the Fire Strike skill.

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад

      Fire Strike buffs physical damage but the skill itself deals flat fire damage. Early on, weapon fire damage + fire strike is a better way to go than weapon physical damage + fire strike. Although, very very early on, the difference will be negligible.
      The ‘mystery’ damage in the video is the small amount of piercing damage that seems to come from the weapon’s piercing ability but no actual flat piercing damage value.

    Apparently I need tips on how to survive bosses in ultimate... Kra'vall and Lokarr just ate me for breakfast

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад +1

      I can show you the characters/builds I’ve used to consistently farm Lokarr (also ones that can quickly do Kra’vall) but I don’t know how useful that will be. For example, if you’re playing a totally different character/build you may need to make some alterations - Lokarr deals mostly fire and lightning damage and he reduces your resistances so you need both those resistances well above the 80% soft-cap so they stay at least 80% when he hits you with the resistance reduction. You also need to be able to get his health down fairly quickly or it turns into a complete pantomime when the Bourbon clones start spawning.
      I’ll dig out some links to Lokarr vids showing my character(s) that can do him consistently, might give you some ideas but if that’s not useful then let me know and I’ll think of something else 👊🙂

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад

      Here’s a Lokarr fight with my vitality damage Apostate (Necro & Inquisitor). The two main bits of gear can be target farmed, the head armour is from a blueprint that randomly drops. The fight looks easy because of the combination of extreme attack-damage converted to health and vitality resistance reduction from multiple sources. The build was NOT designed to kill Lokarr, this was a lucky coincidence. ruclips.net/video/fg3rTqKHWfs/видео.html

      Thank you for the replies, I will check out the builds. I only purchased GD recently on steam and just bought the base game, which I finished on Normal with a warder. I then purchased the DLCs and started again with a warder (seemed like an easy entry point with quite a lot of passive skills). Finished base game on ultimate, just running through Malmouth now, mainly still fairly easy, but getting smashed far too easily and quickly at times, build obviously has some issues, I focused on DPS initially, then patched randomly to regain resistances once I got to ultimate. I still haven't found the armor set that I want to check out (Bloodrager).

      Planning on another build soon, but yet to decide which one.
