    I'm my own worst enemy at times, mainly due to impatience. One of my worst habits is looking at my resistances, seeing they are inadequate and ploughing on regardless with a f' it attitude. (And then promptly having an enemy put me in my place.)
    Dumbest thing I've done is level a HC character to 80, decided I was "bored" of the build and then completely respec'd into something I am not geared for. Naturally it was totally scuffed. I didn't even give him the dignity of a warriors death. Simply abandoned and eventually deleted.
    So yeah. How to wreck your build: be as impatient as humanly possible.

      Nice one - that’s actually ‘the best way’ to play a first build in my opinion, despite all my advice and guides and “use minimal skills” philosophy. First build(s) - go crazy and see what skills you enjoy using, there’s plenty of time to get ‘serious’ later 👊🙂

    I feel like only the mastery selection and to a lesser degree the ability point allocation are the only ones that you listed that can actually "wreck your build". The others can be fixed by respecing/regearing and ability points can eventually be corrected though this will take many levels. Would have been good if you could have mentioned this. Though to be fair these are all problems for new players and good that you bring them up.
    I was actually expecting some discussion about the story choices that can lock you out of factions (gear/augments), dungeons (gear), etc that if done on the final difficulty can mean that some end game builds will actually be impossible.

    So, I've got 3 builds for the league coming up, each using a new MI.
    1. Callidor tempest Mage hunter.
    Primary MIs: S4 weapon, s3 shield, base medal to make Calli all lightning damage and cut the spam cost in half.
    Pros: high damage reduction (flat and percent), shield block, decent life, decent phys res, huge damage.
    Cons: it's callidor's tempest and I'm stuck in place for damage with no bonus movement ability.
    2: Winter Thor Archon!
    Primary MI: 2H mace/troll club
    Pros: cold avengers shield with a 2h weapon (3x damage of a shield), perma wind devil, flat 50% phys and lightning converted to cold, high hp and the freedom to do whatever else with the build (playing pets focus with spam component chain lightning)
    Cons: pretty squishy the way I set it up, designed to hit and run, so not ideal for hc.
    3. Block-master defiler
    MIs: S4 shield that gives 12% chance to block, 40% damage blocked and 45% ele to aether to spec binding, and 12% block chance, 35% block recovery and 50% ele to aether to flame touched.
    Bonus MI for my version: s3 pistol that turns reaping strike to 100% aether for firestrike (100% aether) goodness.
    Pros: 3.4k shield block at 63% chance with .4sec recharge, ranged playstyle, an oh crap button, high phys res, high life leech and RR out the butt.
    Cons: probably low damage without good MI rolls (untested, so maybe), low mobility and aoe isn't the best.
    I'm probably going to stick with the Calli build, d2 lightning nova here I come! Tho all will be played at some point.
    So many builds make me want to play trade a bit, but I am for sure going to start in HCssf ! Let's go!

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад +1

      Remember to dump all attribute points in cunning and use the glitch where you buff every damage type you’re not using to max your resistance reduction.
      But seriously … that’s some next-level build planning. I’ll probably wait to see what new thing drops first and do something with that 👊😜

    Thanks man. Only thing I’m missing is a table / matrix with which profession mixes are useless. Eg Arcanist Inquisitor, is that simply ggwp or is every combination feasible if you pick useful skills?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад

      Although some mastery combos are a bit weird and have limited ways they can be played effectively, the more I play the game the more I want to experiment with those combos. Here’s a very recent Arcanist/Inquisotor character using a main attack skill that is generally seen as ‘not that strong’ - ruclips.net/video/Tp735ahngxc/видео.html - I found it to be a lot of fun, but I wasn’t going for the best ever OP build here 👊😜

    to be fair u can respect everything in this game except mastery soooooo.. u cant mess up too bad, but if u are new player i would just tell them to goes soldier and thats it LUL such a simple class.

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад +1

      But how do I know I’ve messed up? And how do I know what to respec into if I don’t know why my build is wrecked?
      Sorry, I just had to … most of MY fails in Grim Dawn were due to not knowing I was failing and subsequently not fixing what was broken. The purpose of this video (series) is to highlight the pitfalls rather than just saying “it’s ok to screw up because you can respec everything”. I mean, you’re 100% correct about the ability to respec, but that’s not addressing the causes of the problems.

    A lot of sarcasm without saying much of what to actually do... Reading tooltips for someone who doesn't know the mechanics of the game is useless.. they don't know what skills synergize or not and reading won't tell them that this skill "matches" with this skill.

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад +1

      Yeah, sometimes I veer off into the realms of poking fun at the impenetrable complexities rather than delivering a stale list of stuff. As for the tooltips, not reading them at all is slightly less likely to be useful than reading them and starting the long journey to some kind of understanding 👊😜
