I haven't really been paying attention to damage types. The tip about looking at your main damage skill to see what types of damage you should be focusing on was great and helped me a great deal as a new player. Always taking my damage types into consideration has vastly improved my damage output. Great guide
I actually learnt a lot of things from the video especially the various terms and their meanings. May be they are too obvious and I was too dumb to understand on my own but this is REALLY a very simple and STRAIGHTFORWARD guide to devotion. Thank you thank you thank you
I think I said this in another video comment - the majority of new player guides I make are ones I wish I’d been able to watch when I was a new player.
Thanks. It wasn't this particular video but another one you did that taught me the value of binding some devotion skills to pets. I'm about to see how that plays out now.
Thanks for the positive feedback! A lot of fun to be had attaching various constellation effects to pets, skeletons in particular when the devotion skill has a lot of fireworks or other visual craziness involved.
I've always been a bit scared of placing the devotion point, because I never really knew what "End-Game" Constellation to work towards. The tip that there is a search bar in the screen, that I for some unknown reason completly overlooked helps a lot
Nice video bro, Very grateful for the video my bro, you cleared my doubt about pets having devotion skills proc, it will help me a lot, since I am a pet enjoyer. Salve from Brasil 🇧🇷 ♥.
I'm almost level 40 on my main (Shaman) and just started an Oathkeeper to introduce a friend into the game. They asked me what devotion was and I handwaved it as endgame nerd shit. A little bit after my friend's inquiry, my curiosity began to grow and I opened up the menu on my Oathkeeper only to realize I have a point available. I hadn't been paying enough attention and didn't realize when the game had been awarding them to me. I figure if I already have a point in my new guy, my Shaman must be loaded! Turns out I have 15 points available. I did some fiddling and my mind was blown. I wish I had watched this ages ago. At the very least my friends will have the benefit of your tutorial. Thank you for being so clear and informative! Now I know that the shrines are good for more than just loot!
@@Arcadelife1 I blame the fact that the era of game manuals has passed just because publishers got cheap and the void was never filled. I used to love reading the small BOOK that came with Diablo or my dad's copy of the Marathon games way back. Even on console, there's no excuse for it as they could either program one into the main menu or simply have a link to one that opens up a browser. Mechanics left unexplained, lore left untold, or even some general tutorials that could bypass the mind numbing intro that every game thrusts upon you now. It's really a shame.
@@Draliseth There is a game manual for Grim Dawn, both in-game (Codex icon near the lower left end of the UI stuff on the bottom of the screen) and on the Crate Entertainment website. However, the manual does not contain detailed information for the complex game mechanics and is also out of date meaning it has some totally incorrect information such as ‘Augments cannot be removed’ which is just wrong.
Thank you sir for such detailed advice, tips and tricks! I'm really addicted to the game. It's my first ARPG game, well after playing 2 ours of Victor Vran. Grim Dawn takes the crown by a long margin. Cheers!
Thank you for this guide, it's brief and to the point. One bit of criticism: the game's music volume is too loud at times and makes it hard to focus on what you're saying.
Thanks for the view and the comment; yeah, I agree about the voice/music volume on this one. I’ve improved that audio stuff in later videos so hopefully all the more recent ones are ok 👊🙂
I probably had several hundred hours before I was even brave enough to look at the devotion screen. Glad to hear these older videos are still useful, thanks for the comment 👊🙂
@@Arcadelife1 You have saved my life and single-handedly got me to bully my friends to start some new characters with me. Just about to hit ultimate with them - bless
Yeah, if a mastery skill has at least one skill point in it you can attach a devotion skill to it. I won’t attempt to understand why you’d put points in a skill, not use the skill, then attach a devotion to the skill you’re not using … unless it was a test of game mechanics 👊😜
Thanks, Tim. I focussed on the stuff that baffled the heck out of me ( back when I started playing ) - glad to hear you found the explanation clear - always great to get positive feedback!
Good timing with this question. I’m doing a ‘pure soldier’ right now and I was going to experiment with swapping between those two exclusives to see what the real difference is in a few big fights. If it turns out to be worth it, I’ll post a video of the results. Personally, I like to go with unpopular options so my preference without any testing is already Oleron’s 😜
Nice. Well I guess there is a point where putting too much into defense just makes things slower to kill and hence more time to make mistakes and die in hardcore (due to impatience). When using Soldier quite often a lot of skill points are already put into survival skills. But hardcore is hardcore after all and you can only die once! I'm looking forward to your results!
@@alvarogarza9950 Yeah, it’s one of the many things the game doesn’t tell you, or warn you about if you don’t do it. Toggle skills used to be a similar issue for new players but (since Nov 2023 patch) the game turns them on for you.
The way it is presented, as lore-derived constellations is rather nice from an aesthetic/thematic perspective but does make the whole thing feel impenetrably complex to a new player. The actual concept (buffing stats, damage and resistances) is fairly straightforward but relies on the player knowing about the basic stuff (damage types, damage scaling, resistance reduction on enemies, etc.) to be able to plan the most optimal devotion setup. Two things to not overlook: First, Devotion points can be reclaimed at the Spirit Guide or totally reset using a (rare) potion and second, there's a search function on the devotion screen so you can find constellations by searching for text strings such as 'fire damage' etc.
Do you mean the mouth sounds commonly known as "speaking"? Honestly, I listened to the whole thing again because I know this was in my "no pop-filter" phase, but if you could give me a timestamp or two so I could hear what you're complaining about, that might help. Or maybe your standards are just too high for me, in which case I sort of apologise.
3 to 4 seconds when you say video 43ish seconds 1 minute 33 seconds- ish. There's lots more but those are the bigger ones I could stand to listen to again. I'm referring to the saliva type noises. They are rage inducing for some, myself included. I don't know if your mic is too close or if you just produce a ton of saliva. It could just be me. For example, I can't stand hearing people chew (mouth open or not but it's much worse with mouth open) or drink (especially gulping). My comment might have been harsh and I apologize for that, but like I said it's rage inducing.
@@swervecityknifeparty2708 Sibilant sounds enhanced due to the treble being too high - I admit this is a fault with the way I recorded the audio for this.
