    in Tip 12 you mention that it's not possible to remove points in the mastery bar, but this is not true, the sprit guide lets you remove points in the mastery bar down to the first point, but otherwise a great vid!

    • @Arcadelife1

      I'm kicking myself. All I can think is they either changed this or (more likely) I've always been wrong about it. I tested it, and you definitely CAN undo mastery points down to the first point (as you said) - so the only thing you can't do is completely undo the mastery and select a new one. Can't believe I've been wrong about this for so long, thanks for pointing it out.

I have watched a lot of RektbyProtoss tip/guide videos but yours was much better. I am currently following your old guide for the Purifier. I've had the game for a couple of years, even got one of my characters to L85 but it was never a fun time. As I've followed your guide I've learned a lot of the small things that make the game fun. I don't get one-shotted anymore because you've taught me a lot about, not only how to allocate points but more importantly WHY. Thanks for taking the time with those guides. They're the best ones I've found!!!

      Thanks for the comment and for making that important point - information about how/why things work well (to make a character hit harder and survive longer) can be re-used on other builds so you’re no longer just following a guide and feeling like you don’t know why it works or why your other builds don’t work. Feedback like this is very much appreciated 👊🙂

    This is the perfect guide for me. Leveled to 40 and ended up shelving the game for a year or so. I was reminded of this game and got really excited to come back, but had a weird mix of game knowledge-I knew certain advanced information, but forgot some basic stuff.
    Anyway, this guide is perfect because it isn’t so basic that it’s introducing arpg basics but not too advanced or focused on endgame. Specifically, knowing about the iron bars and unlocking item is amazing and I’m excited to come back (going for a fire retaliation paladin build)

    Thanks for adding time stamps for this video and that you put up all this for new and old players of Grim Dawn! For those who are new and play on normal mode like I am, it can be useful to know that you can also use GD Defiler to reset Mastery (keep one Mastery as you need it to keep that window for Mastery accessible and reset the next; and do the reverse) so you can adjust when you discover around level 30-40 that some skills or Mastery doesn't work as well is it did in earlier part of game.
    It is a complex game with several layers so all this information can be useful for new players to know about instead of giving up like I did for some years ago when I first bought the AoM DLC and later FG and suddenly couldn't survive because I got instantantly killed on some bosses.
    Grim Dawn Internals are also a very useful tool as it improve autolooting items (lager AoE pick up zone) and make it less annoying after you have cleared that one for hostile enemies to see what is on ground. It also make it possible to see what killed you so you can adjust your build and a lot of other things that are helpful in game.
    Grim Dawns database (Grim Dawn Tools) do also change how to play this game where you can see all maps (including maps for bosses, Hero bosses and so on), all bosses and possible items in one place:

    I have to say, as an ICT guy, this game has one of the best interfaces of any game. Way too often a game is difficult Only because the interface is bad. Here though, many little shortcuts and searchbars etc.
    The only better one imho is Anarchy Online, which is rather old now. But they included Many console options, scripting etc etc. Like a simple /follow on another character.
    Good interfaces don't interfere in the game ittself. I think GD did a very good job

    Good information here but if I could make one suggestion, script your video out a little bit and make it shorter. I would say something like a tip video will do better for views if it was about 15 minutes long and it is easier for viewers to digest. You could then make a series of these videos and just called them beginner tips 1, 2, 3 and 4. Small detailed like adding time stamps to each tip is very helpful and really make your content stand out.

    Nice set of tips. I'm fairly new having started about a month ago so these were helpful. I've just started my second toon and so the tip on how to transfer money was helpful. As was the tip about the stones that let you skip normal and elite difficulties on a new toon.
    I did notice you get a similar stone from the Crucible once you clear each difficulty level there. So that is something to add for next time.
    And your tip for leveling up using bits you find that have xp% boosts on them was very practical. You are right that everyone says to go get the Lohkar set which is rather out of reach for newer players as you said.

      Thanks! If you do that video, some explanation and recommendation about when to change difficulty levels would be great. I just unlocked elite but am nervous to venture forth. From what i have read, normal ashes content is harder than restarting campaign in elite. Using grim tools i have realized i missed a couple devotion points so am planning on tidying up that sort of stuff, getting to 50 and hopefully upgrading some gear. Might do some forgotten gods stuff too before jumping to elite. Sound like a reasonable plan?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад

      @@volunteerpin313 Yeah, some basic disaster-avoidance advice (based on my own varying successes and failures in hardcore) would be:
      - Get all the shrines in Normal, even the weird ones like the one at the end of the first few shattered realms levels and the start of the Lost Oasis area in Forgotten Gods (it's before you need the skeleton key). Bastion of Chaos shrine - get it if you can spare 40 scrap to unlock the area; again, it is before you need a skeleton key.
      - Go into Elite and look at your resistances. If anything is below 80%, do something about it. The ones most likely to get you killed are the three elementals (fire, cold, lightning), piercing (archers anywhere and Krieg's shotgun ranged attack spring to mind), and then everything else has various degrees of lethality but you really need them all at least at soft-cap 80% and you're still not going to be completely safe.
      - Level up in some late area of Normal where you know you're not going to run into any extreme bosses or whatever, preferably somewhere without mutators. This will get you a few more useful skill points before you need to start relying on them.
      - If your character feels weak in any way, it probably is, so you need to do something about that!
      Yeah, I need to do a video about this, I've got loads more tips that may be useful.

    I'm overhealmead to maintain character resistance in this game. Too much type of damage.
    Sometimes you get spesific good resistance gear but it doesn't give you a damage. Next one you encounter multi bosses that have different type of damage that make your gear and its bonus resistance useless. You out of inventory space to save a spesific gear that you think getting useful later.
    Game doesn't you a clue what a boss ability and weakness.
    Farming farming It's suck if you have bad RNG.
    I wish there was a save manipulator to change your gear per/suffix without doing years of farming for celestial bosses or Ultimate difficulty. :)

  • @blrolz3544
    @blrolz3544 Год назад

    This is a great guide.
    But my personal advice for new players starting on normal, is to not max out just 1 skill, and try enough skills to semi fill a bar (like 4 or 5) and throw a few in each, to see what you like and what works/ synergizes.
    This game has sooo many skills/ builds/ etc, it's really easy to get overwhelmed if you try to follow a build from the get go.
    I recommend play blind for the first like 40 hours, mix and match skills, get a hang of the mechanics. Then start a new character, with your new understanding of the game.
    I wouldn't try to follow a build until the middle of elite, as anything will get you thru normal or veteran normal.

    Can you give any tips about playing coop? My friends and I keep having trouble figuring out how to stay on the same quests and stuff and whether it's bad to split up to do different quests or if instanced loot is worse. Thanks.

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks for viewing and commenting. I can only recommend based on what I’ve personally experienced in co-op, but if you want to watch actual footage of me playing 2-player co-op it starts with this video here: ruclips.net/video/iL5cN9WOO0Q/видео.html
      I’d say use the instanced loot if you’re playing with a friend who will share good drops with you - maybe play totally different damage-type classes so you’re not fighting over drops!
      Big recommendation is make a character (each player) that ONLY plays co-op with the same other players so you keep your quests the same etc.
      Multiplayer is a little bit glitchy, so go into it with a sense of humour 😜

    I love your videos dude, I just have a question for you, I made a simple mod to boost my skills early game to reach my end build faster, and for some reason I think I'm not having all the components I used to had in the blacksmith, do you have any idea of that ? I am using a pet build I saw in one of your videos, really amazing and fun build !! Thanks and sorry for my bad english, cheers from Argentina :=)

      Without knowing the details of what your mod changes, and how that might affect other aspects of the game, I can’t even begin to guess whether this is the reason blacksmith components are apparently missing. Sorry!

    Noob question! I was admiring the damage of you soldier-"ish" character during the mobility tip and was thinking I wonder what hybrid that is when you opened your inventory I saw it said level 100 solider. I was wondering if not creating a hybrid was actually a thing and if you are penalized for only having 1 mastery bar worth of attribute points? Great video thanks!

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад +1

      It’s a great question.
      A single-mastery character can be perfectly viable; soldier worked out well for me and that was mostly using target-farmable items (monster infrequent gear). I’ve also had a load of fun with a pure Necromancer pet character and I’m currently levelling a pure Occultist.
      You can choose the 2nd mastery at any time, or not at all; you are not forced to choose it at level 10 but many players do this because the choice is first prompted by the game at level 10.

    Question if i use more than one skill that replaces the default attack Will they work together. Or they Will replace each other?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад +1

      Try it 😜 … it’s an “either/or” scenario. Your weapon attack is one thing. If you assign two different default attack replaces to different buttons you can use one or the other at any one time. Ultimately pointless and a waste of skill points.

      Hi, thanks for viewing and commenting - you're right about that and I apologise for not mentioning it in the video. I'm aware the xbox version comes with the full set of expansions but if you're buying the game on PC I know you can still just get the base game. If you enjoy playing it, I do massively recommend getting both expansions as they add in 3 extra masteries (classes), two new areas (both quite large), a higher level cap and a whole bunch of enhancements, new gear, new enemies and lots of quality-of-life changes to the interface, game mechanics etc.

      Once you have a character in ultimate/elite with access to Conclave of The Three, you can use the merit to start a new character in the difficulty applicable to the merit (elite or ultimate) - probably not exactly what you meant, but the best Grim Dawn has to offer.
