- We "cut loose" in Utah visiting the filming locations from the 1984 classic movie Footloose starring Kevin Bacon. Footloose was filmed in Payson, American Fork and Lehi, Utah. We had such a blast tracking down the filming sites for one of our favorite 80's movies.

They are tearing down the high school. The football field and driving range is gone and rebuilt. The tractor scene was on west mountain by the dump. You can see my house in it 😊

The burger hangout where Reverend Shaw shows up, and turns off the music...was in Provo at 200 north 500 west. It was called The Hi Spot. It later became a flower shop. Then it was torn down, and is now an O'Reilly Auto parts store.
JerottA Thanks for watching our video! We were disappointed to learn that several filming locations were torn down, especially that burger place. It looked like such a neat spot in the movie, sigh. We actually stayed in Provo for a few days when we filmed this. We attended a RUclips conference there and really enjoyed our visit. What a lovely and friendly city! ❤️

Hi there, I lived in Springville Utah at the time of filming & I noticed you missed alot of locations. The bar scene was on Center street Provo & The "High Spot" was just up the street on University Ave (Near Albertsons). Also Springville High School is where the "Burning of the books" scene was filmed. FUN FACT: Springville High School is where the entire high school scenes WERE going to be filmed, but 1) It looked too new at the time & 2) The image Springville High has of "The Red Devils" didn't want to be shown in the movie, so they chose Payson High because it was a "Carbon Copy" of Springville High, just slightly older looking. Also, I witnessed "Live" the filming of the "High Spot" Scene at the High Spot too. If you pause the movie jut right (Blue-ray is best) you can see silhouettes of people standing across the street in the dark. I was one of those people when i was just 18 years old (i'm 57 now). Another Fun Fact: The High Spot used to be next to a "castle looking" building, that building later became a DANCE CLUB called "The Ivy Tower", How morbid is that? I think the building is still there, but not sure.

Thanks for posting these fun facts. I grew up in Provo and was in 3rd/4th grade when Footloose was filmed. I had friends who were extras in the church scenes. I concur on all your facts. :) The Hi Spot location is now an auto parts store I believe…and the “castle building” Ivy Tower dance club also used to be a venue for wedding receptions in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s. In place of that building is now a Discovery Academy last I heard. Also, the bar where they filmed the bar scene is no longer there…it was demolished years ago to make way for the Convention Center.

Guys, great video! I was born and raised in Payson in a little red brick house directly across the street from the high school. You can see my house in many of the exterior high school shots and little 2 year old me was most likely hanging out in the house during those shots! A lot of my family are fruit farmers and the orchard that you showed is actually my uncle’s, you’re right,the canal is right behind that! If you ever come through again let me know and I’ll get you on the actual canal road where the tractor scene happened!

Was the canal scene through Salem or Payson
@@lisanoele7996it was actually Elk Ridge , or at least on your way to Elk Ridge on Goosenest. It’s probably technically still Payson city limits. I moved away for a decade or so but am actually back living in Elk Ridge now. A lot of it has been developed now unfortunately, but the cool thing is all of that orchard in the background is still there. It belongs to my aunt and her family and her father made it difficult in the will for it to be sold so it should hopefully stay orchard for a good long while! Beautiful spot!

A little Kevin Bacon story.....when Chris was in basic training he was in the band flight (I told him never volunteer for anything, but he never listens). Some of the gals in the band called him Kevin. When he asked why, they said he looks like Kevin Bacon. Fast forward a couple years, Cathy takes Daniel to swimming lessons and the instructor kept referring to Daniel as Kevin. Cathy says “Anna, his name is Daniel”. Anna says, “I know, but he looks like Kevin Bacon”.

Yes I was raised in orem Utah I was ten years old when the film was released in 84 my friend's family owns the Lehi roller mills and my dad worked at Geneva steel when they filmed the train seen dance .. in orem

My brother lives in Payson. I saw the filming at the church. And I graduated from Lehi. Just close by the Lehi Roller Mills. I’m happy you two enjoy the places went too.

The canal scene tractor chicken was along the "Highline Canal Rd
" Back side of P mountain. It may be private now. I was paid to be in the 7-11 scene and can point out most if not all outdoor locations, except the bridge. Three kids on the bikes were my best friends and my high school locker was in the movie.

Thanks Jeff! That would be fun! Wonder Years is one of my all-time favorite shows! We actually stopped by Kevin's house and snapped a photo several years ago, but it was before we started making videos. If we ever travel back to California, we'll definitely do that!

It's crazy to see how so much of the landscape by the Lehi Roller Mill area has changed. In the movie it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. Now it has a bunch of businesses around it. The original Footloose is a great movie and I don't think they could have picked better locations to film it. Saw it way back in 1984 in the theater.
Right?! That was a huge shock to us as well! And we agree, the locations are perfect (even if it's REALLY far from the actual town which inspired the story.) Thanks for watching!
5:27 acrossthe street from the church was the house that Ren and his mother was living in. Of course you didn't see them because years after filming they tore all the houses down and put in a grocery store, and shopping center.
You guys did a better job than another RUclipsr who just frustrated the heck out of me with non sequential scenes trying to match it up to the film.

Thanks Pam! Actually, the Footloose story is based on Elmore City, Oklahoma. The small town embraces it and hosts an annual Footloose festival which we hope to attend some day!

Oh dang! It still seemed pretty rustic out there, but we were shocked at how much the area had grown around Lehi Roller Mills. It was just a field in the movie, wow! Thanks for watching our video :)
AKA Our 80's Life I was mistaken. The road where the tractor chicken scene was shot is basically unchanged but you can see from an angle the sprawl creeping in. But the rest of developed. What is sad (to me) is the West isn’t really the open spaces it was. It is pretty much gone.

I grew up in American fork where the church is. And still live there to this day. I live less than 1/2 mile from the church. Drive past it every day.
