  • Why is it that some people seem to make 180 degree turns in their lives, going from failure and depression to amazing success? Why do other people make the opposite changes going from success to depression and drug addiction? And why does it seem like a third group of people stay exactly the same as they age? Our lives are defined less by genetics and upbringing than by the stories we tell ourselves and other people about who we are and who we are going to be. I am going to take you on a journey of human potential.

i put to much attention into my names and how to call my job, I find it hard to be specific, but what of I don't have to be specific yet? It is all hard and confusing, but thank you for this speach. It was amazing

poignant... thanks. One of my memories is of a speaker on PBS talking about dysfunctional families and using the example of a hanging mobile... saying that if you move one part and then release it... all the other parts will "push" it back into it's old place again... so they call can "balance" ... interesting to apply the same "change resistance logic" to any "community" (of friends, neighbors, or colleagues).

the person we want to be depends on our memories, on what stories we tell ourselves and what people say. We can change and become who we want, but people tend to prefer us the same as always, so he made a comparison telling the story of when he wanted to change name and the other people wanted to call him with his first name and not by the new one.

If you find it boring stop wasting time complaining that it's boring and go do something exciting.

Then again, takes quite the balls to go in front of a TEDTalk stage and share your ideas, so we've gotta give him props either way
