Another trick for speed is to grind, 180 into another grind then exit the grind straight. With either a straight ollie or an up/down direction trick. Youll get a perfect every time which boosts your speed without needing the accuracy of getting a perfect spin

I've heard that the way speedrunners do it is they get special for the stat boost and then they land a trick with a perfect rotation, which gives a speed boost. you might be able to get some of those trickier goals that way

Another fun fact, doing nollie/fakie tres on flat multiple times in a row gives you HUGE speed boost. I think normal tres give a nice boost but not as much

I actually forgot about stat points (to be fair, you have to trigger over, not scroll) and went about as far as Minneapolis for 1 and School 2 for 2.... I was like so certain this was impossible unless I could jump higher...low and behold

There are other ways to get secret tape at carlsbad: 1, you grind the lockers and then ollie into the wall, wallride up, ollie, grind and you're up there where the gap to the tape is; 2, you wallride directly under the tape and just ollie up to it. I''ve done both. idk about doing it with zero stats though. Thanks for another great video RR.
I'd say that's a very valid thing to vent about, different struggles/problems with work, it's a very difficult thing to "get right" or "balance out." Anyway, love these videos, I wouldn't do these unless there were achievements, trophies, rewards, something like that, but I validate your sick bragging rights for publcily beating these (or completing as much as you can). 😌💓
Oh, I did almost the same thing. RadRat may say he's not excited for THPS1+2, but there he is, just like me, re-playing THPS2.
(Dude, I worked so hard to be able to play it. I don't have a PC, neither a PS1 [but my ps2 still works and I've got THUG, THUG2 and THAW, couldn't find THPS3 nor 4 to buy], so I got an emulator in my phone, took ages to find a working ROM and to download it [I've seriously got a 1mbps net], and I've learned to use my PS4 controller in my phone [that was surprisingly easy, in fact]. But goddamn, those three days were worth it. I love this game so fucking much, can't wait for Sept. 4)

In NY, when trying the sick score, every time RadRat bailed at the first combo he restarted instantly. Honestly, that's something I got from THUG2's arcade machines and classic mode, as far as I can recall. I probably did it also in the earlier games, but it became a staple of my gameplay in all the TH games since. If my objective is score-related, you can be damn sure that I wanna start with a bang, and it doesn't matter if I fall in the first trick or after a full minute of comboing. Bailing in my first combo is a 100% chance that I'll restart the run or the objective.
Like, I'm actually replaying THPS2 emulated in my phone and my dualshock4, and every time I bail in the first combo, I reset.
The Special meter gives you speed. As long as It's Yellow. So starting off with no special grinding and getting full bar after landing gives you a speed boost.
This really does just show how fantastical these games are if one assumes someone at zero stats is just a regular person. Pretty entertaining watch as you get clever to deal w/ the goals.

But p.s. I'm screaming at you rn because trying to get Philly skate every time you grind the ledge for the k you go slower when you have special and gain speed rolling and if you just went down the ramp and Ollie the 4 it would have happened 40 tries earlier (notice the land you popped off the ledge early and it just gave you enough to hit your head and make it, had you just Ollie the set you would've done it no problem) haha
My man Rad Rat mentioned sim mode, I remember playing with that, you could not pop shove it on flat, you could barely kickflip on flat, and 360 flip spins faster than both of those, was fun for trying to make realistic runs
I'm getting the feeling that getting special gives you a stats increase (obviously), but also a one-time speed boost when you first get a full bar. Maybe wrong, but I suspect that rather than trying to maintain special for each attempt, you might be better off starting with none, building it up and immediately going for the try. Anyone got any thoughts on that? Also as others have mentioned, perfect landings look like they boost you as well.
Your speed is increased while having special you just noticed the character going to the top speed when it changes.
Getting a big combo does get you speed, not getting into special
After playing thps 1 and 2 recently I forgot how short the draw distance was on this game.

This is actually the only game I have any experience 0 statting (the iOS version allowed you to remove all stat points and still continue..), as I would get tired of how good I was at my favorite lines and wanted a more EA skate feeling experience, it was fun!

One last Challenge sugestion ... , Autokick off with zero stats
Hitting a vert ramp and then cutting really hard back into the ramp as soon as you land can give you a speed boost. It’s crazy w cheat codes
you can zoom out a bit by pressing select

Level 1, could you wall ride into the top rail? Not sure what the height difference is.
On the drop in during the Bull Ring, if you push up and hold it, you'll "stick" to the ground and you won't drop so abruptly.

The WR any % and 100% runs are so insane. When I think about how much time I put into this game vs how fast they can actually be beaten its like 2 different games.

Hey Aron I don't know if you'll read this but I have a tiny bit of advice: try to pay more attention to things that make you lose speed. For example I was noticing that while you were trying to air onto the awning in Philly, there were two things you were doing that caused you to lose speed. There were a couple times that you bumped into the ledge before grinding it, and I also noticed that you lost speed by grinding past the corner of the ledge. I think you can see an example of both things happening at 1:27:58 and also at 1:30:31. It's a little bit hard to tell for sure but to me it looks like both of those things are causing you to slow down.
Fairly minor issues but I just thought I'd point them out as something to keep in mind during other playthroughs. I've been watching your channel for years and always enjoyed your videos, whether it's gameplay, skateboarding history, ask rad rat, tricks and tribulations, or anything else you come up with, you make them all awesome. I would watch pretty much anything you put out, your videos are like comfort food to me. I can put them on and get a nice bit of escapism. You're definitely one of my favorite channels on RUclips. I wish you all the best and I hope work gets a little bit less crazy and life gets a little bit better all around, you deserve it bro. Thanks for all the joy I've gotten from this channel, cheers :)

Doesn’t grinding rails give you a lot more speed than even doing airs? I feel like I did that more often. It’s been a long time since I played THPS though.

licensing will be a nightmare due to all the third party music in the soundtrack - so i honestly doubt it.
Through some wizardry you managed to pick up a lot of speed during the line at 1:34:05, if you can figure out how you did that then it could be really useful.
Its not that hard, what you need to do is to ollie off the manuals quick, repeat as many times you want and youll boost off really fast, take in mind that each ollie you make will make your balance weaker and weaker. You can test this either on manual or grinding, works the same, you can ollie fast while grinding/manual and fall off really quick

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x runs well on the CXBX-R emulator. Upscales to 4K too! You could definitely snoop through your save files for that.

Oh I´m late, but I can help you if you need more stuff to be modified. I usually use Cheat Engine. You can modify a LOT of stuff on the fly (Player position, stats, basically every variable in the game).

Imagine trying to do the “no stat challenge” your fist time playing the game and not knowing anything about it. I know that in realistic but it’s a funny thought to me lol.

Some of this was stressful to watch xD you have to keep slamming out tricks all the way to a jump, full gold special, focus on grinds, and try popping flat 360 flips if travelling across the floor as your speed diminishes when travelling and you lose boost before you get to your jump.
I revisited and completed the whole game for the first time 2 weeks ago and when replaying it I also noticed that there seems to be a formula that resets balance when doing combos.. I've noted roughly every few combo or few seconds of doing tricks in a combo, if you can do 3-5 other type tricks before returning to the balance one it will reset your bar to centre.. so if you repeat combos from say manual, grind then air, do a flip, grab, with rotation and back to manual, your manual would 100% be reset... same if you start your sequence with a grind and come back into one after a few tricks, you'll be back centre.. spamming this with constant tricks can not only give you consistent speed in any mode, but you will be able to hold out some longer combos as you'll be jumping straight back out of manuals pretty fast.. great video otherwise I was thinking of doing a sim mode playthrough for fun soon I may try your method ^_^

You can do the speed glitch without doing a trick at all.
Rad rat, those competitions would be waayy easier if you didn't fall so much. I can't remember the exact math but you have to make up for each bail with like 20,000 points.

to get to the roof and get the secret tape in school 2 you have to grind the rail either the right of left one as soon you land on the quarter pipe make the gap and grind the another rail, that give you the more speed.
Any such hack for the PC version of THPS2?
this was on PC, you gotta go find a hex editor (there's dozens out there) and edit the save using that

I doubt he would play it, as its not a pro skater game, and it has a whole story. He could do the classic modes but their too short
one issue is at least in THUG1 you gain stats by doing things that might be unavoidable while completing goals
@@sloppyy i commented this way before he actually did THUG1 0 stats with a hack that allowed him to have 0 stats. But i do see the challenge in that. You definitely couldn't do it without the hack he used.
