- This was the worst idea of all time. I remapped by d-pad to the face buttons and vice versa. So, hold down and let go to ollie. Hold square and triangle and hit up to do a crooked grind. It's incredibly awkward and broke my brain. Check it out.

Fun fact, the Downhill Jam level is actually Tony Hawk's all time favourite and I think he said on a podcast that he expressedly asked for the level for thps1, whether that means it was his idea originally or just a level designed for the m game that he pushed to have on there. But lol

It would be so cool if in the new remaster version they add secrets modes where the controls are fliped and stuff like that. A zero stats mode would be cool too.
Love the commentary as always and the gameplay this time around is hilarious. Your first attempt at the 360 flip had me surely convinced this would not be an easy one.
Don't worry about the sound of the fan btw, it's super quiet and I wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. In fact, I couldn't hear it even when I was listening for it. So yeah, turn your fan on whenever you want to, don't even worry about it.
Can you program session controls? Turn with triggers. Ollie with down on right thumb stick. Square, triangle, circle mapped to left, up, right on the right thumb stick. L1 and R1 are up and down mapped from the d pad.
That description alone makes my fingers hurt.

We need to realize that a lot of the remake video was recorded precovid, Like the jack black session so it’s possible that many of our complaints have been fixed already. The way I see it, Vicarious Visions took great care with Crash, why would it be any different with tony Hawk?
To this point I always make the same question, which is the following: if the footage we've seen is unfinished, why can't they simply make that clear? It's not an indie game, viewing gameplay of a beta version doesn't make any sense.
Hilarious hearing Ratboi saying how THPS 1+2 probably won't be very good, then the game came out and it turned out to be the exact opposite.

Great video as always, this looks like torture to play, but it's quite a cool challenge. I hope the second half isn't too tough on you.
Also I just want to say that I appreciated you talking about the protests. So many people are afraid to speak up because they want to seem "neutral", so I think it's really cool that you spoke your mind. I think that's the right thing to do in an unjust system. There's a quote that goes something like this: "all it takes for evil to flourish, is for good men to do nothing"

When you were talking about Muska’s special tricks and why they would’ve taken out the boom box grind I will tell you... It’s because (most likely) we will all get burned again with another bad Tony Hawk game developed by people who are out of touch with why we all loved the originals in the first place. I really hope I’m wrong, but the amount of defenders for the upcoming game kind of surprises me. I’m glad I still have the first 4 original games to continue to play if the remake fails to deliver.

We'll see, people are like "but man they said they used the original handling code to recreate the same experience!", sure I mean of course they tell us whatever bullshit will make them sell big, they've been doing that for over a decade selling us complete crap like THPS HD, THPS 5, Ride, etc. advertising them like they were going to be the greatest games of all times. So I honestly don't trust a word from Activision or Tony, I will only trust what I see. And RadRat's review, of course haha.

Oh... it seems like the VV-Logo-Collectables are inspired by these Bonus-Coins in THPS1+2. Makes sense. And some other new collectables.
Idk if im alone on this, but i dont really care if its not realistic. Skate is realistic, THPS is supposed to be an over the top goofy version with triple backflips where you can skate as spiderman doing web shots and stuff, so just because a trick animation is wrong, doesn't really mean much, as long as its fun and functions.
3:36 There’s a fake light source on the barriers. The model has a light fixture in the top right so they made it glow to make it look like it was giving off light.
Thps1 graphics still look good in 2020.
An "only grinds" challenge would pretty interesting to try.
But like would you be able to do tricks mid grind aslong as you can land back in grind?

@@blaowbam3540 Fair enough, I didn't think of that. I don't know if you could even beat the game without manuals though, but who knows. You can get a pretty good amount of points just with special grinds, and I guess you could still do spins in and out of the grinds to get a combo multiplier.
I would definitely watch it if he did try to it :)
This shoul've been the mechanic for doing switch tricks
I think they could replace (at some point at least) dvd disc / secret tape with a QR code. Either a floating QR or better yet a secret QR that you have to wallride on (maybe even get a gap trick for doing so) this way you'd unlock the video and maybe the QR would actually work with some unlisted THPS RUclips videos.

I actually thought this meant inverted controls, like "D-Pad up is D-Pad down etc"
But still it was a nice way to spend my hour!
Badass, naturally the next challenge should be beating the game with a regular controller scheeme :P on a sidenote, you should try to disable dithering and see how you feel about it, as there's no point in hiding the 24 bit color palette to this day and the first 2 THPS over use it in my opinion.

A way you could improve this type of video is to show us the buttons you're pressing! Maybe you could use something like this? gamepadviewer.com/ You just need to record the browser window and then chroma key the background! Or maybe there are other gamepad overlay plugins you could try.
Another thing: did you end up trying Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder? I recommended it to you maybe... I don't know... 2 years ago? I'd be curious to know what you think about it!

How do you get points in this game? I always have trouble getting high score and getting the points tapes because the technology wasn't there for manuals or reverts.

Oh no, I winced in pain just thinking about that game with flipped controls. I'd rather try Steel Battalion flipped than try to beat X Games 2001 flipped.
Are you planning to preorder THPS 1 + 2 in order to get access to the demo level? I've considered doing so, but I don't want to be stuck with the game if it sucks.

Love these but always get triggered lol. "I get the most points in airs and bowls"...proceeds to do a single grind trick worth 5000 points getting to the bowl then skates bowl to not get more than an exact total of 1000 on any single trick for the next 20 minutes. Could literally do that grind and turn around 4 times and be over with. If my eyeball pops out it's because of you lmao
Hahaha I kinda thought the same, but in general in the first THPS the key is to diversify the tricks and the lines, you can get 5k points in the first grind and think that will work for the rest of the points but then you get lower and lower scores if you do the same stuff.

Why do you care about trick accuracy in a game where you can grind on powerlines?
Because THPS2 in particular despite being an arcade game was pretty accurate with tricks animations and naming, and that's part of what made it so popular and well received from the skateboarding community. Also because it's a 20-year-old game and they were able to achieve that, there is no excuse to screw it up now that we have all the newest technology. If they release it and animations are wrong, trick names are wrong, etc. it would mean they didn't even bother having skaters do some sort of quality control. I really hope that's not the case.
@@axel.lessio I would understand if Skate has wrong trick animations and names but Tony Hawk is not realistic that is like complaining that the guns aren't accurate to real life in Borderlands
