I’m just now seeing this. This was at my local course. 😂 if you ever find yourself in Huntsville, AL I’d love to take you to RTJ Hampton Cove so you can see they didn’t shoot 46 on the highlands course.
Playing at only 6000 yards with a 6, 9, possibly 7 handicap, along with a BOMBER scratch golfer and 2 mulligans and free tosses per person then a 46 with an albatross and par 4 hole in one becomes a more likely scenario. Amazing things do happen. If it actually played as short as he says in the interview, I can see this happening. It is only human nature not to believe something we believe to be impossible until we witness it with our own eyes.
I got a 1000 bucks that says they wouldn't shoot that if someone was riding along with them. If they don't they owe me nothing, only stipulation is that is has to be filmed. Same guys, same course, same tees same mulligan package. I'll even pay for the round.
@@bobbylindeman6463not that I'm buying his story, but he did state that it was uphill... add a hill, and a 15 mph breeze into, and a 330 yard drive including rollout turns into a 280 or less pretty quick. My good drives normally go 260 ish, but I've hit a 360 yard drive over the green with a tail wind and downhill. I might only get 210 with the opposite conditions. That part of the story is the most believable bit. Grade and wind can easily give or take big numbers to your average distances in golf
Yeah but this score of 46 is beyond a stretch. They aced a par 4, a double eagle, 4 eagles, and 12 birdies. I don't care how many mulligans they got the odds of them shooting a 46 is past the point of impossible. On top of that every other team could buy the same mulligans and none got remotely close to their score... They beat the next team by 7 strokes. Clear their name? They look more like clowns than before. The throwing of the ball and mulligans honestly doesn't explain how the score was that low.
With these rules I think the 72 (max score possible) might be harder to believe than the 46. I know several 25+ handicap players and if you put 4 together in a scramble with all of these mulligans and throws, I can’t believe their wouldn’t birdie at least ONE hole.
You would think, pick a par 3 and just use all the throws since they don't count as strokes. With it only being 6,000 yards total, there has to be some short par 3's that you could have got a "hole in one" by using 3-4 throws lol
Best scramble format is two foursomes per hole. It's above board and you get to talk shit every swing. People think it takes too long but if done right it can be great. Opposite teams keep score, track of mulligans and drives. Great interview. Most golfers don't understand how low you can go when good players get to putt last
I've played and won my share of four man scrambles, and I've won a lot of long drive contest in the scramble. Every time I'd go up to get my prize, people would be mumbling this and that. I'm six foot tall and at the time about 185. Some guy 6'4" would think he could hit it further. There's always people out there that aren't good at golf that can't phathom shooting 20-22 under par without cheating. That doesn't mean it can't be done. All of my friends are scratch golfers or plus handicappers. If you're making putts, there's no limit to how low you can go. You can hit it to fourty foot and make it or hit it to six foot and have four guys miss it. I think the guy is telling the truth, and golf is a game of honor. I feel he should have gotten the benefit of the doubt. Who wants to be ridiculed for a fifty dollar gift certificate? They paid more money than that just to play in the event and help raise money.
I stopped playing in these scrambles because I refuse to be a part of the cheating. It's all I've ever seen firsthand in every tournament. I was a scratch golf guy in my good playing days and every team including some religious based tourneys still wanted to cheat. Hard to believe the 46 but I guess this is also a pay to win situation on a short course.
@@jefepeeps4308 Yup, what a joke. Throwing golf balls is very difficult, like throwing a whiffle ball, no accuracy at all. They cheated, not slightly, but horribly. A disgrace really and this guy's defense is so unjustifiable and simply ridiculous. "All it takes is one good shot," whatever dude.
Not even close to being true. Are you telling me that Bryson uses mulligans and throws? Come in man. This guy even says in the video that without mulligans and throws they would have been 9 strokes worse. Listen again.
Team shot a 43 in a recent 4 man scramble I played in. Teams were allowed to buy rope that would get your putts closer to the hole so i guess every time they were within 100 yards it was a hole out😭
In order to receive the winning awards, these tournaments should make the winning team play a par 3 in front of everyone. The heckling would be enough to make teams not want to cheat.
I was on a winning scramble team with a scratch, 2 hdp, and a 3 hdp. 4th guy didnt carry a card and was probably a 20+ hdp. We shot -21 (50) and won by 4 shots. Our 20 hdp guy holed out twice from the fairway. We only holed 3 of 6 eagle putts. When we finished, we thought pur score was only good for 2nd or 3rd. Everyone was razzing us like we cheated. Its only a game. I was proud to win and shoot that score.
It’s always the high HC golfers that think they have game who can’t believe. I too have seen stacked 4 man teams break 50, without mulligans. And they too were heckled, I was sad because I know these guys and they wouldn’t even improve their lie when the rest of our group is playing it up. I believe these guys and think the haters should practice more and bitch less.
Matt, these interviews are youtube gold. I commented on your Instagram story about this, so I take my comment back. Thanks for clearing this all up! Never played in one of these scrambles, but live in Alabama. Saw BYOB advertised
US Air Force. Intramural golf. My opponent had a 16 handicap, mine was ten. I had to give him three a side. I shot 81, he shot 76, WITHOUT the strokes. Sure. 16 handicap, shoots a 76 from the tips. All hell broke loose, after I went to his unit, and complained about his cheating. He was banned from intramural play..as everyone he worked with knew he was routinely in the mid 70's.
Just saw this.... With these rules I can see a lot of solid golfers on a team shoot this score or better... But what were the 2nd and 3rd place scores? Thought they won by a landslide? Nobody close?
He said the ringer and the other guy they played with left right after the round. Since this guy isn’t the larger gentleman in the red shirt, doesn’t that mean he is the other guy (blue shirt) from the second part of the video in question?
if he wasn't worried about what other people thought, he wouldn't have done this interview. He's human scum, especially trying to justify the cheating.
I golf at a club that has scratch golfers that if you just looked at them youd never imagine that they could hit a ball let alone shoot scratch.... Good golfers can come in many shapes and sizes
I admittedly was one of the people that didn't believe the score but after watching and listening I'm now a believer. Context is everything! Thanks for doing this Matt!
Would be different if multiple teams got close, but they completely waxed everyone. 2nd place on that course was 7 shots back, and it looks like it was a packed field considering they had to use 2 courses for the tournament. I think that's why it's so controversial. This isn't viral if 3 other teams had shot 48 and a couple more shot 50.
@@n8dawg53 as someone who frequently setups up fundraising golf events I can tell you most teams typically do not pay for mulligan's. If they do it's like 1 person in the group, or some super rich dude that isn't great at golf anyways so his teams score usually is irrelevant
@@kourt2469 And as someone who plays in many scrambles, I’ve never been on a team that didn’t get the mulligan package. I believe it wasn’t that much to purchase. Maybe it’s different from where we play golf.
Everyone should chip in and if they can shoot 50 they get the money, if they can’t, they have to donate 1K each to charity. I’m in MB and there are a lot of pros here and the best scores are 50 to 52.
Have you ever played golf? Lol when you are on fire you are on fire! Every shot you hit you stick it or drain every putt. I guess you haven't done that yet.
They really weren't that epic. On a 6,000 yard courses with 4 par 5's 22 under is very often going to win. That's what they shot but converting on the 4 throws made is 26 under. Actually nothing crazy at all for a team with one scratch and 3 solid players.
They definitely took advantage of the "freebies". In most tournaments where I have seen throws, greens are excluded. And, never can you use them back to back. Also, in most scrambles that I play in, mulligans can only be for putts. But, Im not sure if that is helping or not. The rules have to be specific. I would like to see the posted rules for that tournament. It could have a 8-9 stroke difference.
Why would anyone get mad about this? We just won a mixed team scramble with a 53, we bought so many mulligans and "miracle putts" we couldn't lose, get over it people, it was for charity. The mens winner was in the 40's LOL Let me add though, no big prizes, only little trophy's, raffle prizes were big but we didnt win any of those
My dad is turning 70 next year and I wouldn’t be surprised if he shot 70 in a round. His drives go 210, he Carries Driver 3,4,5,7,9 wood he’s had 3 hole in ones in my life time I’m aware of. He plays to a 7 and he’s a big guy and you’d never expect him to kick your ass in golf
I think context really matters in situations like this. The only story I read previously to this video made it seem that these guys made ridiculous shots and blatantly cheated. This was simply them using advantages they could purchase in a fun charity tournament. You also throw in good golf and it seems legit they posted a card like that. My gut tells me this guy seems legit to me. Very honest and gave a lot of detail to his story.
It's definitely possible for a HIO on a par 4 with a hand toss that doesn't count as a stroke. My team tossed in from the fringe (laying 2) on a par 5, which netted an albatross. We have some younger guys in our group that can drive over 300 yards, so it's doable to get on or around the green on a par 4.
I was on a scramble team about 15 years ago on a par 71 course and it had no packages so was straight up best shot between the 4 of us on each shot …. We shot a 49 -- so a 46 with all those mulligans and throws is attainable on the right day with the right mix of 4 players I’ve played golf for 40 years since I was young I’ve seen more high 40 scores in scrambles with packages to buy at my club over 30 years by men I know would never cheat … so I don’t see the controversy here
I feel for these guys. I’ve been on a team that shot 44. It was an easy short course where we played one up and two of the guys on our team, one a single digit handicap, got to play even farther up because of their age. We had 4 throws that didn’t count as a stroke, 8 gimmies from anywhere on the green and more. On one par 5 I put on a tutu so I could hit from the ladies tee leaving us 80 yards to the green then we used a throw from 4’ to card a 2. We won by 7 and definitely got some grief there but nobody posted it on social media.
Yeah but they didn’t have all those advantages your saying there.. they had some but not all of those.. and they may have been playing it a little shorter then normal but that is one of the tougher courses in the state.. it wasn’t possible to shoot that.. this guy is full of shit
All I have to say about 'having a good day' is I have had 3 in my decades of playing golf. You just can't predict this stuff. Legit 16 handi - playing a very well maintained course, not long (6500ish) but plenty of trouble to be had and not flat or straight. This was my local tournament group who played tournaments together once a month - handicap determined from previous tournament play in that group only. I just felt good that day - pretty much everything went where I intended, and the putts kept falling. When you get in trouble and you have to turn your club upside down and chip one in from your wrong side, you know it's your day! Shot a straight up 75 and had never broken 80 before. They pretended to be pissed but they were pretty happy about what was going to happen to my handicap. :) oh btw - did I say I stayed and bought drinks until we all went home ? That was as much fun as shooting the score. My point is, why can't we be happy for people when they pull a one-time success out of their arse ???
Great content. Couple of comments because I am still not buying it. - the older man said 2 of the players were +3 handicap. His story doesn’t back this up. - your telling me, they had 4 throws and all executed perfectly: not happening. If you don’t believe me, try throwing a golf ball 50 yards away and tell me how many you sink. - Steve play, even being scratch, doesn’t add up. Look at the match that was recently played and see how many times the pros missed the green or hit bad shots. I personally believe they probably shot 50 (or really close to it ) and pencil whipped a few holes to win and they didn’t need it.
He explained their math and probably the conversations they had in the cart, if we eagle every par 5, bird every other hole, and subtract a stroke for every throw we’d shoot a 46. So that’s what’s the wrote
We shot 18 under with a 35 year old, 72 year old, a 14 year old girl and a 12 year old boy. The 72 year old was a scratch golfer. He said I shoot my age lol.
We just played one where we lost to a group of 80 year-olds who dropped a 52. I know old men can still hit the ball, and they hit from the forward tees, but seeing them on the range before the event was what made their score suspect to say the least.
Bryson DeChambeau has a series called breaking 50 on his RUclips channel. He plays from the ladies tees and plays best ball with great players and has yet to break 50.
Super interesting. Have been on a few teams that I played in scrambles and shot -17 / -18 with no mulligans and lost to people shooting -22 on straight up scrambles. However, all of those times have been in charity golf outings so at the end of the day, who cares. If you got 5-8 hours to hang out with your group of friends and enjoy the ride. If you want to play in true competitive outings, go play in scrambles that have a volunteer that rides along with each individual group or play in 2-man scrambles where you play with another team and both teams sign off on each other's scorecard. Edit: The best was in one scramble we played in 40 mph winds, and it was terrible. I knew another team that had 4 solid golfers, I was playing with family members so we shot -2 or -3. However, the group I knew shot -12 which I thought was crazy in that wind (mind you no extras just a straight up scramble) and they lost to a team that shot -19 lol After the guys on the winning team said they got super lucky, and the wind was always going with them...
Not to mention, the guy that is banned from the course is a ringer. Didn't play under his own name. And that is a 2nd hand story as to why he was banned. I wonder if that was really the reason.
The rule likely stated you can throw to an extend a previous shot. A throw from a previous throw shouldn't be permitted. But like you said, 47 would have still won.
What else is interesting here is how bad the other scores are considering there are throws allowed. Maybe this team is the only one who fully understood and fully took advantage of the rules.

@@mattgrimmett6067 how do you know that everyone bought the same mulligans and throws? I have been to these things and those are optional if you want to spend more money. It's a way the charity event makes more money.
@@mattgrimmett6067 and also there is strategy around using those, if you use them right , it could definitely happen. No way I could ever do it, but I'm sure there is a group that can.
@@burtonray9259 I would say you're correct in that I don't know all facts. What I do know is that I've played in hundreds of these over the years and that score is ridiculous. NOT to mention that you want to just believe that there is a "Mystery" scratch golfer that joined the team.....smh. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck its usually a duck....
@@mattgrimmett6067 you are very correct.. I’ve played that course.. it’s as tough of a course as there is even from 6100 yards.. 46 even with advantages isn’t possible especially from guys with the handicaps he said
Also, another guy on this team did an interview with @groupchatgolf and said on the hole in one hole they drove, threw twice and then he putted in a 10ft'er, so a 2.. Boy's may need to get together and go over their stories once more.
Just saw that. Wow these guys can't even get their hole in one story right 😂😂😂 These fools cheated 1000%
The ace hole they would have only hit one shot and thrown twice. No putting.
@@mrshortgamepodcast Yah man I get it, but the story told on another pod is not that
@@mrshortgamepodcast That's what we're saying. His teammate on another podcast said they putted a 10 footer after the two throws. @20:55 on that podcast, dude says they hit the drive in the fairway, two younger guys threw it to 10 feet and made the putt for a hole in one????????
It’s pretty easy to forget every shot on 18 holes or confuse it with others but yes if your repeating it online to crazy trolls. Yes they need to get it straight 😂
Love it............Great Video Interview, Matt!
Great interview. To resolve this and have some fun lets get Good Good or Micah's new team to replicate this using what they had in mulligans and throws.
Who are Micah’s new team? Didn’t he go solo?
Micah doesn’t like these types of things. Part of why he left good good. But I’d love to see garret and the boys do this.
I would like to hear from the tournament director. His version of the rules?
That doesn't matter now, everything is over and in the past. They were not explained very well
Freaking awesome content Matty. Appreciate you getting straight to the interview.
I’ve never played in a scramble with throws, but this makes perfect sense and I get it- rough one!
Favorite golf RUclipsr out there
He should of did a post game press conference and fielded questions. After this interview I 100% believe the score.
Excellent interview. Top notch. A perfect example of not passing judgement until you know the whole story.
Awesome interview Matt. Great to put some perspective on this whole blown out situation.
Good one Matt. Social media can be mean and you giving these folks a chance to air their side is good public service. Good man.
Good point
I want an interview with a group that either played in front of or behind them... I've played I'm too many scrambles where a team swears they play fair up and down, but you can see them not getting the score they claim
Bingo. This guy can regurgitate his version of the story all he wants. I'm from the same city this happened. These guys are apparently notorious for this kind of stuff.
Yep happens in all scrambles. I’ve seen awful teams not reaching par 4 greens in 2 winning the competition.
Every scramble I've ever played in won't let u stack throws. And most won't let u throw if ur on the green
I knew that tiger woods wasn't the only one. Thanks for revealing them to us
I got a 1000 bucks that says they wouldn't shoot that if someone was riding along with them. If they don't they owe me nothing, only stipulation is that is has to be filmed. Same guys, same course, same tees same mulligan package. I'll even pay for the round.
Steve averages 330 off the tee but on 9 he hit a great drive and it went 300. Makes sense.
Grade and wind can easily give or take big numbers to your average distances in golf
definitely one of your best interviews so far! this one was next level. nice of you to let them clear their name.
If you can’t birdie 1 hole with these rules that is insane haha idc what your handy is
You would think, pick a par 3 and just use all the throws since they don't count as strokes. With it only being 6,000 yards total, there has to be some short par 3's that you could have got a "hole in one" by using 3-4 throws lol
The 72 from the other team is more unbelievable tbh 😂😂😂
Now I see the problem. You are never allowed to use two advances on the same hole
what do you mean never? aren't there often different rules?
matt coming in clutch......
Great job Matt, thanks for doing this!
Best scramble format is two foursomes per hole. It's above board and you get to talk shit every swing. People think it takes too long but if done right it can be great. Opposite teams keep score, track of mulligans and drives. Great interview. Most golfers don't understand how low you can go when good players get to putt last
I'm a 1 hdcp and I look like a fat, old hobo......LOL. I love the look on peoples faces at the range.
Exactly
I stopped playing in these scrambles because I refuse to be a part of the cheating. It's all I've ever seen firsthand in every tournament. I was a scratch golf guy in my good playing days and every team including some religious based tourneys still wanted to cheat. Hard to believe the 46 but I guess this is also a pay to win situation on a short course.
I play out there all the time and I know they cheated
-26 under par though? Give me a break
@@jefepeeps4308
Yup, what a joke. Throwing golf balls is very difficult, like throwing a whiffle ball, no accuracy at all. They cheated, not slightly, but horribly. A disgrace really and this guy's defense is so unjustifiable and simply ridiculous. "All it takes is one good shot," whatever dude.
Pretty awesome, it is impressive to meet the players that beat Bryson when he played from the front tees. They really are just the best of the best.
Not even close to being true. Are you telling me that Bryson uses mulligans and throws? Come in man. This guy even says in the video that without mulligans and throws they would have been 9 strokes worse. Listen again.
I find the group that shot even par is more unbelievable.
Team shot a 43 in a recent 4 man scramble I played in. Teams were allowed to buy rope that would get your putts closer to the hole so i guess every time they were within 100 yards it was a hole out😭
Thanks for giving the guy a chance to tell his side.
He’s a loser and deserves everything he gets haha 😂
Shoutout Bob and Fat Perez!!!!
“I didn’t expect to shoot that low” is my favorite part….. 😅
Love your Joni and Friends coffee cup! Great organization!!!
In order to receive the winning awards, these tournaments should make the winning team play a par 3 in front of everyone. The heckling would be enough to make teams not want to cheat.
Guy: I got a hole in one
Siri: I’m not sure I understand 😂
The rtj courses have amazing bars on sight. That’s why they are so strict on outside alcohol
love the interviews youve been doing!
A key point to this guy - your friends will know whether you are capable of cheating or not...the others - don't worry about what they think.
if he wasn't worried about what other people thought, he wouldn't have done this interview.
A 1 on a 336 yard par 4? A 2 on a par 5? You now believe this?
U can't stack throws and usually not ever on the green either
He checked into Protected Custody (PC) from General Population on RUclips Golf Prison Yard
That's the best comment of all!
13:25 for the hole in one story

Excellent interview as always Mr. Short Game!
But you're assuming every team dropped $100 on the mulligan package which is probably highly unlikely.
@@kourt2469 I’m not assuming every team did. But I’d imagine most did, just like most scrambles.
@@n8dawg53 they said $100 which is quite an excessive amount to pay to try and win a $50 pro shop credit
Context is everything!
I just have a hard time believing that all of these epic shots just happened to come together on the same exact game
They really weren't that epic. On a 6,000 yard courses with 4 par 5's 22 under is very often going to win. That's what they shot but converting on the 4 throws made is 26 under. Actually nothing crazy at all for a team with one scratch and 3 solid players.
Exactly! That’s what im thinking! This doesn’t seem hard for a very good foursome
You and 10 people who liked this must not be very good at golf 😂
@@lnewsomea scratch that no one ever seen 😂 or heard from again
Ghost scratch golfer who averaged 330 off the tees? Okay 😂

Wow, that mystery scratch golfer off the tee averages further than any PGA tour player. Amazing 😅
Great interview
You're a natural at these scoops! See ya Lakeside.
Thank you Matt. Hopefully this puts this silliness to bed !
People need to stop being fucking crazy and leave these guys alone
This is the first I'm hearing about this and haven't seen the video yet but I will say that 26 under par is almost unachievable without cheating.
@@jefepeeps4308 it's unreachable even if you are cheating.
Loving some of these interviews and exclusive content. 👏
The guy said they would of shot -22 without advantages… gtfo
It's definitely possible for a HIO on a par 4 with a hand toss that doesn't count as a stroke. My team tossed in from the fringe (laying 2) on a par 5, which netted an albatross. We have some younger guys in our group that can drive over 300 yards, so it's doable to get on or around the green on a par 4.
The real story is the guy with the last name "McAnally" that shot a 59. I want an interview with him.
MSG. Film them playing a match- same rules. 2mil will watch.
First off, great job on the interview. Second, I somewhat believe these guys now after some clarification.
I was on a scramble team about 15 years ago on a par 71 course and it had no packages so was straight up best shot between the 4 of us on each shot …. We shot a 49 -- so a 46 with all those mulligans and throws is attainable on the right day with the right mix of 4 players
I’ve played golf for 40 years since I was young
I’ve seen more high 40 scores in scrambles with packages to buy at my club over 30 years by men I know would never cheat … so I don’t see the controversy here
I feel for these guys.
Great Job Matt F. Mr Short Game for the win.
This is why rules have to be explained very clearly. Always going to have those folks that will say , " well nobody told me those were the rules."
oh btw - did I say I stayed and bought drinks until we all went home ? That was as much fun as shooting the score.
My point is, why can't we be happy for people when they pull a one-time success out of their arse ???
A 9, A6, A7 A0 = do not equal 46?
I know old men can still hit the ball, and they hit from the forward tees, but seeing them on the range before the event was what made their score suspect to say the least.
yeah, but their pencil worked REALLY well.
Bryson DeChambeau has a series called breaking 50 on his RUclips channel. He plays from the ladies tees and plays best ball with great players and has yet to break 50.
Solid interview.
I'd love to play a scramble where two teams play the same hole and the other team keep score for each other.
What else is interesting here is how bad the other scores are considering there are throws allowed.
Maybe this team is the only one who fully understood and fully took advantage of the rules.
I played in this tournament. You get one mulligan and one throw. Also, 59 and younger play from the Oranges, 60 and older play from the whites.
