- I wasn't sure if I'd ever try Konnyaku (Konjac) Starch. It sounded like a hassle, messy, complicated, and unnecessary, but I wanted stronger paper for my slow-stitching projects. I have to say the results were nothing like I expected!
Momigami-or kneaded paper-is an ancient Japanese technique that transforms ordinary paper into something soft, durable, and fabric-like. I've always used hand lotion, but the idea of using Konnyaku starch was a game-changer I almost missed. Check it out and see if it is worth the effort.

Thanks for the tutorial
You are very welcome!
Thank you. I didn’t like the mess of lotion momigami.
You are very welcome. I was surprised at how much I liked the Konnyaku starch. It was way easier and not messy at all. I'm glad you liked it too.
Have you every tried just wetting the paper and adding a couple drops of vegetable glycerin, rubbing it over the paper working it in by crinkling while wet, let it set, etc? Thats how i make the fabric paper. Never tried hand lotion or starch.
@@iteeshollow wow. No I've never tried that. I'll have to try it. Sounds interesting. I appreciate the suggestion. Is the paper damp or pretty wet? Thanks so much
@@CreativeRiseArt Hmm, the middle, lol. its wet not damp, you have to be careful that you dont rip it but once dry its like fabric. I havent made any for a long time. You wouldnt dip the paper in water, but spray water on it.. there are videos on you tube, i havent seen any lately, so not even sure what you would look for to watch someone. Just try it, i think you will like it ;)
@@iteeshollow LOL! Middle it is. That makes sense. Thanks for getting back to me. I'll have to try it for sure. I'll see what I can find about it. Thanks again for the input.
@@CreativeRiseArt LoL! you are welcome.
What do u do with this
The paper is stronger and can actually be sewn by hand or machine. I plan to make some jewelry with this fabric paper. But you can make book covers, lamp shades, mixed-media, collages, and the list goes on. I have additional videos on my channel of things you can do with momigami. Would love to hear what you make.
