My husband left me his music papers I’m going to try it on some what a beautiful way of preserving our memories Thanks to you and Don . God bless everything you touch
I did this years ago with brown paper grocery bags for sewing little slightly stuffed hearts for valentines, with glitter glue edges. Thank you so much for inspiring me to try other papers!
Oh my! I didn't even realize this had a name. My friends and I used to make 'fabric' with our lined paper in high school in the early 80's. I guess the paper back then had a higher cotton content. We would do this in math class when we were bored. No oil or anything, we would just keep crinkling the paper over and over and OVER again until it was no longer paper. I think it would be neat to write on the paper first and use this as a way to 'preserve' the image of the writing/message. Oh, and I have the perfect steel button for your layered project! ;)
I was having trouble sleeping when I found this video. I couldn’t have sound on because hubby was asleep. This helped. I closed my eyes and pretended I was making ‘fabric’ from paper. Thanks for sharing. It is kind of cool!
Wow! Talk about unlocking an OLD memory - we used to do this to notebook paper in class when I was in middle school in the 80s!! We just did it because we were bored - it wasn’t taught as a technique and we didn’t have a name for it.
This is new to me…I just tried it with ordinary hand cream and a newspaper picture …it turned out great. I have an interesting image to add to my next project. I love that it has a name …makes it seem much more “arty”… Can’t wait to try it with larger and more complicated papers, perhaps draw on the paper first…or after …lots of fun ahead.
This is lovely , thank you😊. It’s so great that your husband helps you and is interested as he asked about the paint you used. I do this with prepped paper napkins; painted over with pva glue. I love the way it feels after you have scrunched it. I am going to try this though because I don’t like the glossy effect of the pva…. Even though its not so glossy after you have scrunched it. Will definitely be doing the stitching ❤
I love the aspect of mixed media…nice. I bought a bag of random mixed media sold from my local art store for some reason that escapes me. This gives me more ideas though, thanks❣️🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia
Totally new concept to me ! I love slow stitching and will now have fun with incorporating this beautiful paper fabric into my art. So scrumptious Thankyou!😊
Thank you so much for doing this video! This was something we did in grade school, but I had no idea what a true art form it could be. I immediately grabbed a gorgeous page from a Daphne’s Diary magazine and turned it into “fabric”. My mind is going crazy with the possibilities!
Fascinating! I have never seen anyone smush up watercolor paper before! After I finished watching, I happened upon a piece of watercolor paper that had lost its sizing and had an aha moment! It folded and rolled and crinkled up beautifully! I finally have something to do with papers that have gone bad! Not sure I will want to use the side with the funky fish on it. Next I will have to rewatch the video to refresh my memory on how to put this together! Seriously fun!
I loved seeing your creative process! And like a lot of others commenting here, I didn’t know that this process of fiddling with and “worrying” paper had a name. Therapeutic and beautiful results. Great tutorial! 💕❤️💕
Wow, interesting to use the coconut oil in the paper. I love using craft paper for projects, now I will try the coconut oil to give it that soft feel. Interesting how the paper without oil, shows absorption in the folds, presumably where the fibers are compromised by folding. But the oiled paper blends color better. Must be the oil seals the whole surface so color is more evenly distributed. Interesting. ~Mr Paris
Blessed to have stumbled across your video... just subscribed and ft collins is about an hour from me! I remember this technique was introduced to me back in elementary school almost 50 yrs ago! It's one of the few memories I have from then and it's has fluttered across my mind a couple of times. What a blessing to have found your video this morning! I will be adding this to my crafting and very thankful you shared so much wonderful information. Thanks to your cameraman as well!!
Hi Michelle.. so glad you liked the video.. yes.. I think most of us tried it in school.. we have over 100 video to watch.. hope you enjoy them! We are making shorts now.. so you might like those too! I am in the process of leaving my gallerie.. but I will be taking appointments for people who are local to visit my home studio and having an annual studio tour! Thanks for watching!! 😘
Love this technique! I remember doing this in elementary art class but don't remember what we did with it. I tried it using a piece of scrapbook paper and coconut oil and it turned out beautifully. But did get a few holes. I have boxes of scrapbook paper that I was ready to give away now I have a purpose for it. Can't wait to try stitching on it!
I discovered this technique by chance and kept doing it using all kinds of paper , only recently discovered it was a Japanese technique called monogamist. I have printed beautiful flowers onto photocopy paper , crumpled it and used the flares on quilts along with fabric flowers, no one realized that some of the flowers were paper, never oiled my papers
Nice! Fun! Really love it! I wonder what would happen if you would wet the paper thoroughly first before you start crunching. Think it will go well with pressed florals and greenery.
So enjoyed your video. This technique was first introduced to me by Robyn McClendon - both of you are mixed media and book maker artists. So different in styles but both of you are so satisfying and I learn so much. Thank you.
This is SO COOL! I have several papers from scrapbooking that I absolutely love - so much so that I’ve ‘saved’ them for years 😬 - but this technique will allow me to turn them into fabric, do some slow stitching, and make them into journal covers! ❤️🥰 Thank you for this!

Hi Cat and Don! So happy to see a new video from you guys!! Funny how a couple weeks ago I learned about momigami in someone's YT video, and now I see it on your channel! I have "researched" the technique and watched a few videos since first hearing about it, but I never saw anyone using coconut oil... I love how you get a completely different look when you add the paint! Thanks for showing us both pieces for comparison. I never thought of using any oil, but I use water. I just had this idea because I'm very impatient and always try to find ways to get things done a little faster, especially when I want to try a new technique 😄 The water definitely makes the paper more fragile and vulnerable, but I don't really mind because I don't mind a few rips. Looking forward to seeing more videos soon!! 🤗💕
Oh! I hope my comment didn't upset you, Cat!! I really didn't mean anything bad when I mentioned seeing the momigami technique in someone else's video. I just find it funny 😄 And seeing your video reminded me of the technique and made me feel like playing with my paper bits again... sending you big hugs!! 🤗💕
