Here's Emma doing a short interview talking about her disease and why she started her foundation, then she performs her original song STRIJDER (Fighter) which is about her battle with her disease and her determination to find peace.

Another wonderful Emma reaction, thank you! Emma is actually not 14, in fact yesterday she turned 16 while on Tour with André Rieu in Greece! Her family flew in her closest friends to celebrate 🎉 her "Sweet Sixteen" with her, HAPPY 🎂 BIRTHDAY EMMA! (Emma, as we know, is petite due to her gastroparesis, which slows her growth.)

Thank you for that reaction, it's very evident that she absolutely reached deep into you in the way that only she can, and yes, she truly is a bright shining star, and this song is indeed one of the highlights of the last few months, among a lot of other very good songs she's been singing with Andre at the concerts.
Having said that MAX TV didn't quite get it right, when she goes into full belter mode, they didn't give her microphone quite the right level, and while it's good, it's not the outstanding level that she can do, and they sort of made up for it a few days later, when she went into the studio for an interview on TV, and then after the interview, she sang a slightly shortened version with just a piano accompaniment, and on that occasion, they did get the volume right, and Emma also gave it everything, a sublime performance, there's a video of it at ruclips.net/video/ma01DXvF5Vk/видео.html
On both occasions, physically, yes, she was standing there and giving an outstanding performance, but mentally, looking at her, in to her eyes, when they were open, and for a lot of both songs, she had her eyes closed, she was somewhere else, in her mind, she was LIVING that song in a very different place, possibly even a different time as well, and it's that ability to get into the song so deeply that is so much of her incredible power, she's not just singing, or even performing at a higher level, and I still can't find a word to describe it, she's going so far above a performing level, and somehow, finding a way to get so deeply into the emotion and feeling of the song, and then expressing it with her whole being, it's so much more than her voice, which is sublime, and that for me is one of the reasons why she's having such a powerful impact with everything that she's doing, and some of the 'Emma Effect' is that she has lived with the feeding tubes and that regime from 9 MONTHS or age, and that experience has to have become so much a part of her, and it gives her an understanding of what it means to be vulnerable, and she exposes that vulnerability in her singing, not for sympathy, but to express the depth of her own feelings as she's singing.
Andre's huge experience of over 50 years meant that he was able to help Emma make the difficult transition from being a good and capable girl singer, with his gentle guidance, and a stunningly beautiful black dress, (one of four he had made for her), Emma felt 'Strong and powerful', when she walked out on to the Vrijthof stage to sing Voila, she was mentally very different, she knew that her dream from 12 months earlier was happening, it was expressed in the song that is her first single, LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly, an incredibly deep and soul searching song, she desperately wants to live a different experience, a different life, to be free of the daily heartbreaking regime of 22 hours tied to the equivalent of a boat anchor, the two feeding pumps that are her only way of surviving.
The effect of gastroparesis has been significant, even now, she's TINY, 1.42 height, and around 50 Kg, and that has also affected her stamina, while she looks the absolute picture of health, she doesn't have great stamina, even several flights of stairs carrying the pumps, or on some days even a long walk is too much, and effectively, for performing free of the tubes and ties to the pumps, she has 2 hours a day, that time is precious to her, and is a massive part of the therapy that helps her maintain her mental balance, singing is the activity that for Emma gives her life meaning.
    The video is in Dutch,
    ruclips.net/video/Zcxan9R5s4E/видео.html
there is a translation in the notes that are with the video, and the words are so deep, the most telling section is 2:02 to 2:40, she sings the words, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I'd just like to live as another'.
As she sings those words, she has to look at the deep desire that she's expressing, and as she does so, she is forced to recognise that her deep desire can't be achieved, there is no cure at the moment for gastroparesis, she can't escape the clutches of the regime she has to live with, her eyes close, she gently shakes her head, and then her head goes down, and she's silent.
Then, she makes a decision, she will NOT let this awful disease define her, she will not let it get the better of her, she IS going to rise above it, and become the singer that her heart desires, she IS going to soar like the butterfly of her dream, and in the song, she rises, her head comes up, and she soars to an even higher note, the die is cast, her life IS going to change, she will become the powerhouse that will not be held back, and that is exactly what has happened, there is a strength and confidence in Emma now that has come from the knowledge that as of that first huge performance of Voila with Andre, she has become a singer, and in truth so much more than a singer, her star rose like the butterfly of her dream, and that strength and confidence is so evident in all she is doing, physically, she's still tiny, but mentally, she grew and became someone very different that night, Andre has describes her as a 'podium beest' a stage beast, and on several occasions, we've seen it, she's the smallest one on the stage, but she managed by sheer power of her personality and performance to absolutely dominate the stage, and everyone within earshot.
Andre's gentle influence meant that the good girl singer became the New Emma, as she walked out onto Andre's stage, the butterfly of her dream emerged from the chrysalis in which it had matured, and the butterfly spread it's wings and soared, mentally, she went with it, and in that moment, she grew into the beautiful, strong, powerful, serene, composed, competent, driven and dedicated young woman that Andre knew was ready to emerge, her star rose, and shone bright in the sky, and she gave the performance of her life.
At the end, as she hit that top note, and punched the air in triumph, the cheeky smile said it all, she knew she'd nailed it, but then the (at that time) 15 year old girl looked to her mentor, Andre, and threw her arms wide, and the look in her face said it all, without words, 'How was that?'
Andre's eyes, his smile, the kiss and hug, the one word from the Maestro, 'Fantastic', the standing ovation of over a minute, the call back to accept and acknowledge the contined applause, they all confirmed that Emma had indeed delivered the performance of her life, and even though this had been the first of 12 planned performances, Andre asked Emma the very next day if she would be interested in performing in Malta, 2 concerts, in Maastricht for the Christmas concert series, and then travel with him on the world tour of over 75 concerts throughout 2024.
She accepted the invitation, and to coin a phrase, the rest is history, the video of Voila went viral, and has stayed viral, the current view count on RUclips alone is over 43 million views, and that's without all the other social media sites that it's on, the true total is probably nearer 100 Million at this stage, and all of her Christmas songs with Andre, the concert with Max TV, the duet with Helene Fischer, they've all had huge viewing counts, multiple millions of views, and there's rarely a day goes by without a new review of one or more of her songs, she truly is making a mark, and will continue to do so.
Yesterday, (12/03/24) was her 16th Birthday, and as well as flying in her family and close friends, Andre also announced to the over 13,000 people in the concert in Athens that it was her birthday, and she was then treated to everyone singing 'Happy Birthday', and then the audience spontaeneously launched into a similar birthday song in Greek, a very touching and deeply meaningful few moments for Emma, it's a day that she's unlikely to ever forget.
I have the space to mention one other event that I think you will appreciate, in September last year, Emma was 'honoured' to be asked to sing at a commemoration concert to remember 8000 Americans who gave their lives to liberate Holland in WW2,
There are 4 videos on RUclips, an introduction, and then 3 songs, the first, a Demi Levato cover of 'Father' is an incredibly strong song, she absolutely broke the sound engineer behind her during this deeply emotional song, it's another example of her incredibly skill in using her voice in so many varied ways to have the effect that she does.

I close with what's becoming my signature when talking about Emma, and yes, it means a lot to me to be able to do this, she is a very special individual, and she deserves as much support as it is possible to give her.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease, and hopefully find a cure.
One of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.
