This was the same as on my granddaughter's 2015 EcoBoost. The holes in each end of the filter cover are where screws are that can be removed and not be replaced because the door snaps in tight. When opening the filter cover be careful to pull out gently on the outer tab as you pull down and toward with the door tab.
