That was in the deep playoffs and the Pistons all knew that Jordan was the only good player on the team. I don't know if it was 89 or 90, but either way he led his team in points, steals and assists, 89 he lead them in blocks too, 90 he was second in blocks.

MJ would score in the 50’s/60’s while playing D all through the game, all 82 regular season games and the playoffs.
You also forgot to mention how physical it was back then. The flagrant fouls of this current NBA age is just an everyday play back then. Players of this age could not handle the rules back then, they would have to take several games off after 1 quarter of play.

When MJ's teammates were not cutting it in the playoffs, he pretty much took off for 50, 55, 60 and gave the Bulls a chance. Sorry but when LeBron's team is in the same situation, he can't and it's a Finals loss and you get to see the opponent win the NBA championship. Kawhi has the closest shooting chart and defensive mindset to MJ. Lebron has a losing record in both the regular and post season when facing Kawhi teams. Lebron also has his worst stats when counting only minutes guarded by Kawhi compared to being guarded by any other player in the league. Imagine if Kawhi was a much better scorer, more efficient, more athletic, a better passer, hustled like Westbrook, had the mentality of Kobe, the durability of Lebron, an unmatched work ethic, passed like Wade, trash talked like Bird and far more effective leadership. He would then be MJ. So if Kawhi poses such problems for Lebron, just think what MJ would do to him. Especially adding the trash talking head games to all of that.

Being from Chicago in that era and watching all the games on tv or live in person was amazing. He never took a night off or missed a game with the Bulls except for his second season with the foot injury. That era was tougher and more physical, you add in his accomplishments in less than 13 seasons you'd have to know why he's the goat.

The "hang time" is just an illusion, he had an insane leaping ability that gave him separation space at his high point and more time to adjust as he was coming down... am a pretty good shooter but my feet have to be set, I have to have a good look at the rim, and there is certainly no ability to adjust my shot on the way down...MJ also had freakishly big hands that were strong AF that helped control the ball as he adjusted midair to shoot or pass successfully (or as you've seen doing nasty fakes while palming the ball)...
Michael Jordan was just on another level.When it came down to crunch time and a game was on the line, the question went from "can they win the game?" To "what is he going to do this time to pull out the victory?" I grew up watching Jordan and lived in Chicago when he won his 6 rings and I live in Miami and saw LeBron win 2 rings with the Heat and as incredible as LeBron is and was with Miami.Jordan was just on another level.Like you said you can watch all these highlights but it doesn't do it justice watching it in real time and living through it.

Born in the Jordan era, he made me a die-hard Bulls fan due to his abilities and watching him as a kid in North Carolina. He was also the reason I played ball. LBJ is an amazing player for the new generation and I respect his game. But the game has changed a lot from the Jordan era!! Jordan will always be one of the GOATS!!
Jordan was an incredible player in every category. He was, arguably, the best scorer in NBA history... But scoring alone isn't what makes you the best. He was incredible at defense, court awareness, passing, everything. He's famous for the dunks, yeah, but that was just a small part of his ability.
Early in his career, they had him playing point guard for half a season or so and he still put up great numbers. Not as many points, but tons of assists, and still great defense. Jordan was the real deal, deadly on both sides of the court, and ready to dish it off to someone else when he couldn't finish the play.

Jordan and Pippen would hound a 3 point shooter before half court and force him to the side and trap him. And then there was Ron Harper ready to steal the pass if it was a short pass or Rodman playing free safety in the back if the pass was long. As great as Reggie Miller was shooting 3s, he couldn't score 10 threes a game against that.

In today's NBA game, the league allows one hand checking on defense. A lot of people do not realize that Jordan played in an era in which two-handed checking was allowed on defense at that time. That means Jordan had to work extremely hard to get around or through the defense in order to get in the lane to score or get his shot off over defenders. The NBA game was very, very physical during his early and prime career. He averaged 30 points per game during his career. Remember the Bad Boy Pistons? Or the front line of the Celtics? How about the Physical Thuggish Knicks? If Jordan played in today's NBA game, he would probably would have averaged 45-50 points per game. Jordan was just a Barbaric Warlord. He was a Gunslinger and he wanted to kill his opponents on the court.

He wasn't flexible or agile, but had amazing hand-eye coordination. Bird is my 2nd favorite ever behind Jordan. As a pure basketball player, no one played it better then Larry Bird, IMHO.

As a 33 year old, Jordan was the reason I wanted to play basketball. My dad took me to a game against the hornets when I was like 5 and I still remember it to this day. I agree with you though, they're both number one and unique in their own ways. But, I've personally never gotten pure excitement and joy from an LBJ game like I did watching Jordan as a child. Probably just nostalgia that makes me say Jordan is the GOAT, but I'm not blind or stupid enough to deny that LBJ deserves to be considered in the discussion.

To drive home your point about watching in real time. I’ll never forget watching a bulls game in like ‘88 (before any title) and me and my two friends were saying to each other, “we need to remember and appreciate that we’re watching Babe Ruth. We are so effen lucky to be witnessing this”.
We knew, in the moment how special he was.
And we were all die hard Knicks fans.
Seeing this stuff live was really crazy. He did things on the court, that no one had ever seen before and when you look in the faces of people while he does it, the words "how does he do that" were written in every face.
What really sets his airness Michael Jordan apart from everyone else was the mentality he had. Never bitched about being fouled, never surrendered, played sick, was a ruthless killer, won 6 finals out of 6 and never went to game 7.
LeBron in that era wouldn't be allowed to develop into what he is today. The game was tougher, defenses were like a concrete wall and when a guy started bitching about a potential foul, he was seen has a weak guy and to be, mentally, hunted down by the opponents.

Very true.. I like the fact that a very small percentage of jordans highlights are still there but I also dislike it because it doesn't do his game justice at all! Mj was the ultimate competitor! Only other person that I've seen come close to match his competitive drive is Tom Brady and I ain't even a Brady fan. Mj didn't do load management. He said what if someone bought a ticket for the first and only time just to come watch him play? Nah wasn't in him! He played all 82 games 9 times in his career and the other seasons weren't far off.. If he was healthy, he was playing. If he was injured but not completely disable, he was playing!

Good reaction man. Imma say a couple things, just imagine the type of intensity these games were played with in the 90s. The NBA was insane in that era bro, so much hostility among the teams, you could feel the animosity. Today, not so much. I can appreciate Lebrons talent and size, but bro MJ was damn near magical. I just don’t see the type of finesse in Lebron that Jordan had. I saw many players like Lebron in the 90’s, they were the ones getting ran over by Jordan. I may sound a bit biased being from Chicago and all lol. Keep up the good work man.
The defense was played a whole lot different in that era. Thats something that always stuck with me watching both players back to back. MJ was challenged at the rim by entire teams at times and still gets the score and drew fouls. He was just different on so many levels in my opinion vs Bron.

Utah had possession but MJ stripped Malone then hit the game winning shot to end the series. That's why LBJ will always be playing catch up. He lacks that killer mentality. Jordan's passing is underrated it often gets over looked because of his offensive moves. His defense as well. One of the few players to have 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season and he is a guard!!! Part of one season he played point guard and almost averaged a triple double. His footwork is crazy too. He's a one of kind. He scored so many points mostly making regular field goals imagine today making 5-6 3's a game? he's easily average 40 points a game. He would dunk on so many centers and was so nasty.

Great reaction. That play at the 6:00 mark (when he dunked over the big guy who didn't jump) is one of my favorite MJ moments. They were playing Utah. On the previous offense play MJ posted up John Stockton, put a spin move on him and dunked it. A fan yelled at MJ "why don't you pick on somebody your own size". The next offensive play was the one in this video when he dunked over the big guy. On the way back down the court he yelled back at the fan "was he big enough". That's what he was saying in the video.

Just FYI, the play at the 5:56 mark of the video has a story behind it. It was a game against the Jazz in 1988 and in the previous play before that the Jazz had switched John Stockton onto Mike and Mike of course dunked on him. While going down the court after the dunk on Stockton, the then owner of the Jazz (Larry H. Miller) who was sitting court side shouted at Mike to pick on someone his own size. The very next play is what you see where Mikes dunks on the Jazz tallest player, their center Melvin Turpin (number 54), and while he is going back down the court he turns to Larry H. Miller and says "Is he big enough? "...There will never be another one like him...plain and simple and i consider myself very lucky to have seen the whole thing live even if I am from a country thousands of miles away 🙂

Remember he averaged 37.1 ppg in an era where hand checking was allowed and the pace was slow. That could easily translate to 48ppg in today's NBA where the focus is a fast paced game with no hand checking and defensive three second rules (which makes the lane wide open!). Just look at Jordan scoring on three or four guys in the paint and imagine what he could do with a wide open lane! The rules where changed because the NBA needed a fast paced game so that someone could be the next "Jordan" who could score so many points. They achieved that on paper. But if you watched the games, you would understand the level of difficulty it was back then to score. Thus, you appreciate player dropping 20 ppg. Now even a borderline all star can average 20ppg.

Jordan was like a superhero come to life, he had no weakness to his game, incredible two way player on offense and defense. There were other superstars when he played, like Magic, Bird, Barkley, Hakeem, Robinson, and later on Shaq, Kobe, and Iverson showed up,…but no player felt as UNSTOPPABLE as Michael Jordan. Jordan was feared by all, at best teams hoped to contain or limit Jordan, everyone knew there is no way to “stop” MJ. The Pistons in the late 80s contained MJ the best, but even then he still went off. Jordan’s explosive speed, athleticism and mental desire to win is what made him what he was. If MJ didn’t have that mental aspect, he probably would have been a dude like T-Mac or Dominique Wilkins, an offense mainly dude that does flashy dunks and gets bounced in 1st round.

@King P You just grew up a little late. I grew up watching all of Bill Russell's home games at USF. He had won 2 state titles in high school, then 2 NCAA titles and 56 wins in a row in college. Then he won an Olympic gold medal and 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons. He was 88-54 vs. Wilt, who was easily the greatest offensive player in NBA history. Bill was 6'10 and around 220. Smartest player ever and he intimidated opponents who were afraid to drive the middle and have their shot stuffed back in their face. No 3-pt shots back then. He was very fast, ran the 440 in 49, was among the top rated high jumpers in the world, also ran the relays. Bill could jump so high he could get his chin over the rim from a standing jump and could flick a coin off the top of the backboard. Michael won 6 titles and was awesome, Bill won 11 in 13 years including 8 in a row. He was the best and I saw them all.
Theres one thing any other player has or had that MJ had and is a delight to watch, the artistry and aesthetic of his play, you will never see that again. Hes not only full of the best stats, thats the top of his achivement.
I appreciate you getting educated a bit on what MJ was about, and hope you watch more on him. Also gotta keep in mind that he was doing this in the highlights you saw between about 20-40 years ago, and there's STILL a bunch of his palming/hangtime moves that nobody can do now.
To you and others who claim that LeBron's the best "all-around player" though: doesn't that mean you should be great on D as well? Yeah LeBron was great during his all-defensive seasons from 2008-14, but it's been 7 going on 8 seasons since then, can't blame all of that on age. MJ was 1st team all-defensive through his last year with the Bulls when he was 35.
Then if you look at per game stats, MJ wasn't too far behind in rebounds and assists - especially considering he was 3 inches shorter & 50+ pounds lighter than LeBron, and also didn't play point nearly as much. And how you gonna let MJ be above you in average blocks per game given your size advantage??

Also for the best all-around game, shouldn't that player have at least a pretty good mid-range game (which LeBron doesn't)? The worst thing you can say about MJ's game is his 3 pt shooting, but as you can see, at only 1.8% off from LeBron's it was decent especially back then when there was no emphasis on 3s.
One more thing: how you gonna call 1:18 a travel when he's dribbling?? I know you're biased, but c'mon now.

MJ´s 3pt Game is criminaly Underrated yeah he had a bad 3pt shoot early like Lebron but by the first 3pt revolution mid 90s he improved his 3pt to an top level near 40 %
