If Jordan played in this era he would be wearing rings on his toes by now.
He definitely would have a bunch more but also probably would've needed a few down years, just for the physical and mental rest.
That man didn’t face any zone defense. Not to mention athletic defenders. He never beat any all time great teams and was never defended by an an all time great wing defender.

@bouchthecollector yes remember that 13% from 3. Jordan played in an era with its own style. That was 36 years ago, players are more skillful and athletic. Jordan’s athleticism wouldn’t stand out as much today. But he was a giant against the JV 90s
The thing this younger generation doesn't seem to understand when it comes to Jordan, this was him EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 NIGHT 👏. No plays off. No load management. No wasted plays. This guy killed you on both ends of the court every play. And he would do it after a night out at the casino without an ounce of fatigue. He was a machine. So it is nice to see people like you, in this generation, understand what this man was capable of and the heights he took basketball. Props for that! But then you have people say he played against "plumbers". No, he MADE THEM look like plumbers. He made many of them look average because he was so far ahead of the curve. Six championships, no losses. Six finals MVPs. Five league MVPs. Ten scoring titles. Countless All NBA and All Defensive First Teams. A Defensive Player of the Year Award in an Era where that award was usually awarded to the big men. Two Olympic Gold Medals. Hell, even a College National Championship at UNC. Played in arguably the toughest Defensive Era. Still averaged 30+. And he did ALL of this in 15 seasons which includes his two seasons with the Wizards at the age of 40 (or 14 seasons if we want to take out his second season that was almost completely lost to a foot fracture). Twelve seasons if we JUST count his Bulls years. Imagine if MJ didn't retire the first time, IN his prime. Imagine if Kraus kept them together for a year or two more after winning their 6th. Imagine Jordan having a 18, 19 or 20 season career. Just imagine where his stats would have been. How many more titles he would have had. In comparison, at 14 seasons respectively, Lebron was behind MJ in every major statistical category other than assists. He had 2 titles to Jordan's 6. And the hardware gap was huge. I respect LeBron, just as I respect guys like Durant, Curry, Kobe (who is the closest we have ever seen to MJ) and beyond. But Jordan simply packed in MORE accomplishments, both personal and team, in less time than anyone else. The argument of the GOAT hasn't even been close. You are so right ! I have said it MANY times. Jordan was at such an elite level that we graded him bad for his standards. Go back and re watch the games and look at the stats he was bringing in for a 40 yr old. Today, they would be an all star that is how good he was ! One of my fav quotes from Jordan was when he was on the Wizards. He said " It is sad today when you have a 40 year old out rebounding , diving for loose balls, and giving more effort then guys half his age". He is right and what is more sad, he said that in 2002 and it still resonates today.

He was 40 when he played with the Wizards, and still had decent stats. He even had a 2 game span where he scored a total 96 points.
MJ was 6'6, most of his dunk highlights are him posterizing greatest big mans of all time, like Ewing, Mourning, Hakeem, Mutombo. Lebron is 6'9 and one of his greatest dunk is posterizing 6'2 Jason Terry while being 3 on 1 fast break.

I got the joy of seeing all this when it was happening. Jordan adapted to everything the game could throw at him and kept playing. No whining about no-calls, no backing down, no jumping to another team because yours isn't good enough. He MADE his team good enough and keep it going for TWO 3-peats. That's a true GOAT.

Ironically enough it was because he was forced as a point guard at one point in his career. He also mentioned that he studied Magic's games to prepare himself.

I think my favorite of MJ highlights are his defensive highlights. It's so crazy to watch them, then you have to remember he also led the league in scoring while making all these ridiculous defensive plays. So much fun to watch.

Definitely endorse this. As an Aussie who grew up in the 80s and 90s, basketball was like an out of season sport that you might do to stay fit. Jordan made it more than a sport. It became a lifestyle. It was became a huge part of popular culture.

The best part is that every game he played was a highlight reel . I'm born raised West Side Chicago. I'm 45 and lived and seen the whole MJ era . It was honestly the best time for basketball ever . And to have your Team and City the highlight of the world not just the States but the world was pretty amazing. And Mike didn't need or never had a Super Team and Never lost in the Finals . Never went past 6 games in the finals . And honestly if the bulls ownership and GM weren't so dumb !!!!! We win 3-5 more in a row . I was at a game probably late 80s and was very young don't remember much but what I do remember Cadillac Anderson made a brutal foul on MJ and he went down unconscious for about a minute or so the whole stadium went completely silent it was like time stopped for a moment but he popped right back up , I'll never forget that.
1st time seeing jordan was the Pacers game coming out of retirement. 2nd and last one was his last time playing in Chicago for the Wizards.

Best thing about Jordan was how he evolved his game. Early it was a lot of inside, slash and dunk with a bit of mid-range. Then the turn around/outside game. People said he could score but couldn't play D. Becomes one of the best defensive players ever.
While everyone talks about the high flying dunks and his hang time which are absolutely mind blowing, but what was truly amazing about watching MJ play was the fact that he was fundamentally sound and his footwork was out of this world. There will never be another one like him.

The way Chicago helped develop Mike was in practice. The Bulls would run 5 in 5 drills where they'd switch Jordan off to the losing team & he'd play to bring the losing team back to win. So in game time his switch can never turn off he's always pushing to win.
No wasted movements yes, same reason why people dont see unnecessary flashy dribbles, he only does what is needed.

I really feel like Michael Jordan took the fundamentals of basketball to another level by practicing them until they were instincts. He wasn't overly flashy, but he learned to play the game so flawlessly that while he was on the court, he wasn't thinking about himself, but how to see through everyone else's game to get to the rim. Mike played basketball like people ride bikes. It was just easy.
Ummm...that's literally how it's supposed to be.
When I played football growing up, I was usually the littlest or youngest on the field. The older guys used to argue about, "What's so hard about guarding that kid!?". The guy guarding me would always say, "Then you guard him!", to which the other guys would just walk away. The point being, I used to be in this space, where I could see the field and was aware of what everyone was doing. I knew where to run, how to use a players' strengths against them, where to line up, who to fake, it was incredible. I didn't know how to explain it, I just knew how to do it.
MJ always looked like he was doing the same thing. Total and utter awareness, which gives you such a level of control over the game. It's so easy to get by someone when you know what they are going to do. And knowing that allows you to also make them do what you want them to do. Because of that, you did better than most players, even when you didn't play your A-game. Take that and add natural ability and a hard-ass (always underated) work ethic. Well... you get ...

Jordan was the most fundamentally sound player on both ends of the floor, the most competitive, with top level athleticism. He didn't just want to win more than anyone else, he made his teammates execute on his level to make sure they would. His ball handling, footwork, and first step quickness were underrated as well. Nobody did it better than MJ. Kobe patterned his whole game after Jordan. Kobe is Jordan with 90% of the athleticism.
Kobe is NOWHERE near Jordan. Kobe had good shooting and post game, but he did NOT dominate the way MJ did. I could write many paragraphs proving why, but will save it.
The person who appreciated Pippen the most was Jordan. He never took the credit himself, he always shared with people no where near as great as him. No one talked about pippen being comparable to Jordan but he always deferred attention and honor to Pip.
Unfortunately for pip, he lived in Jordan shadow, pip was on another team he is Jordan of that team.but Jordan has definitely said no pip no rings.
@@swilli3476 have you seen what Pippen did with no Jordan? 1994 the Bulls replaced Jordan with three players on pippens level when Jordan retired. That 2nd to 4th best players of that 1994 team were better than anything Jordan had played with. Pippen had a better roster in 1994 than Jordan had in 1993 and won less games. He didn't have the leadership to grow a team. The longer he was the leader, the more the team crumbled.
Pippen was brilliant but not compared to the number two of most teams they came up against.
pippen didn't have an alpha mentality he was always a sidekick guy. that's why when phil jackson told him to pass the ball to kukoc in the '94 playoffs at the end of the game pippen cried and sat on the bench instead of helping his teammates. sometimes if you're the best player on the team u have to learn to kick the ball to someone else or just take the shot without permission. instead he cried, quit, and lost respect from his coach and all his teammates. jordan early in his career would have just taken the shot regardless but later he learned to listen to his coaches if he wanted to be successful. so he'd kick it to his teammates in crunch time on occasion. & tbh it really sucks that pippen talks bad about jordan now when jordan has done nothing but help him and compliment him during his entire career. mj even used to make pippen stay after practice so they could 1v1 just so he could help teach the young pippen a few things. it's sad that from pippen's perspective he feels like he was cheated in some way.
I LOVED the NBA back then. Multiple dynasties at once. Lakers, Celtics, Bad Boys & Jordan had to overcome them all.

You're right about the toughness of the 90's. Consider this: Shaquille O'Neal was the most dominant physical force to ever play in the NBA. When he came into the league in the early 90's he was quickly surrounded with great talent. And Shaq got swept FIVE times in the playoffs by five DIFFERENT franchises in the 90's! That's how competitive the 90's were. Unlike the 80's, the 90's had great parity. ELEVEN different Franchises made it to the NBA Finals between 1990 & 1999. People only talk about the Bulls because they won the most championships in that era. But the 1990's was full of great teams.
Some of the best Hall of Famer‘s also and some of those teams always had great players on them also.. MJ didn’t play scrubs like LBJ fans will say..

I heard you mention double-teaming Jordan: It was difficult because he quickly recognized them early and reacted before the double could get set. I've seen others say, "Why even let Jordan get the ball in game-winning situations?" - Jordan was determined to get the ball.
He did get double and even triple teamed , but like you said, he was so good (and quick) at recognizing it, that he’d get around it or pass it off before it was set up.
Yup and he moved so well without the ball he could get buckets on cuts all day and his catch and shoot was unstoppable

There's nothing wrong with having a favorite player while admiting another one as greater.
For instance, Pippen's game was so quietly smooth and complete that he became my favorite, but i still knew Jordan was better.

That's really one of the main differences between lebron and Michael Jordan. Lebron has to convince people hes the goat where other people said it about Michael Jordan.
That is because they knew Jordan was a killer and Lebron just doesn't have that killer instinct. He plays in a much less talented/softer era. That should make it easier for him to be a killer, but no. Jordan was a killer in a league full of killers..... Damn, I just said killer way to much.

Skills are what athletes hone and practice. So it is not really easy to spot. I wouldnt even say which era got more talented players. Just saying the difference.

That Suns team you're talking about had the best record in the NBA, with Barkley as the league MVP and Jordan covered him for the series. I guess Clyde Drexler was a scrub? Do your research on the Trailblazers, Sonics, Suns, Jazz rosters. Many of these teams were 9+ deep. These teams had to beat teams led by David Robinson and Hakeem.

A few more details you need to know... He could run a 4.4, 40. He had some of the largest hands in the NBA while only wearing a 13 size sneaker. His actual leap was a 48 but I wouldn't be surprised if for a while in his athletic prime he hit 50. Bobby Knight said he was the greatest basketball player he'd ever seen, and said that before he ever played a game in the NBA- and he never handed out compliments to anyone. Jordan could have lead the league in any category if he chose to. He is without doubt,..... the GOAT.

There’s a legit scenario in which they could’ve won 9 straight titles. Jordan doesn’t play baseball. The front office doesn’t tell Phil Jackson to take a hike in ‘98. Obviously not a guarantee but a legit possibility.

Jordan got bored after 3 in a row that he retired and played baseball . Then he came back and lost to the magic , used that motivation to win 3 more. I think 100 percent of Jackson was able to stay they woulda won the 7th against the spurs easily. Jordan needed that break to win 6 cause he was just too bored of winning .

I feel privileged to have watched him play. As far as when was his prime, I would say from 87-93. When he came back after retirement, his shot suffered a little, and his quickness was just a touch slower. Having said all that, he was still the best player in the world by a country mile. He was already the greatest when he retired the first time, but when he came back and 3peated again, that just cemented it for me.

I have watched basketball since the 80's, Micheal Jordan would dominate both sides of the court. Teammates would feed off his energy and drive. Teammates have said many times, Jordan made me a better player. Micheal brought out the best in every player. Micheal never backed down from a Challenge, NEVER. If he failed, he trained harder. He didn't make excuses, his post-game interviews even after a loss scared the team he was playing next.
