Kenny began on unlicensed pirate stations but then got the attention of the BBC. They gave him plenty of chances to get on the airwaves. He went back and forth from one station to another. The eccentric and unfiltered DJ often got fired because of an unsavory comment, but he always found more work.
His comedic chops even got him spots on TV shows that led him to get his very own show. He brought the crazy characters he’d been developing on the radio to life, and fans loved it for years. He also hosted game shows and appeared in a strange horror film. His wild personality helped him make friends with many of the musicians whose songs he played. He was especially close with Freddie Mercury and The Beatles. Unfortunately, no one could soothe his tortured soul.
Before he came out, he married Lee Middleton. They had a rollercoaster relationship that eventually ended amicably.Kenny later came out as gay and revealed his two lovers. One of them had AIDS, and he contracted it as well. The disease brought down the beloved comedian when he was only 50.Lee chooses to focus on the positive memories of life with her former husband. She’s even been part of books and documentaries that help preserve his legacy and show what it was actually like to know him.

Without doubt one of the most talented comedians ever, right up there with Connolly and Milligan!
He was the only comedian who stopped me from going for a pint, I'd stay in and watch his 'Kenny Everett show' every episode!
Sadly missed, died way too young.

This is wrong !!! After joining Radio London he was asked to accompany the Beatles on tour and send reports back to the station for broadcast. He loined Capital Radio via recorded shows at first, but because the new station had poor audience figures 1974 to 1975 he handled the Breakfast show , starting with co presenter Dave Cash but Cash later moved to lunchtime show leaving Kenny to do the brakfast show solo until 1975 when he moved to weekend shows. Just before joining Capital in early 70s and following his enforced departure from Radio 1, he worked for various BBC local Radio stations and also Radio Luxembourg all these shows were recorded and at one point he even worked for Radio 4 , a speech based station and he presented TOP of the POPS on BBCTV.
In the 80s he returned to BBC Radio 2 until 1984 and in 1988 he again could be heard on Capital when they split frquencies and he appeared on the AM service Capital Gold daily at lunchtime.
Oh and Merseyside is pronounced MER-ZEE-SIDE. and is an area of Livderpool England, hence why he was linked with Beatles.
His character was Lord Thames and not General Thames
