As a child, I wrote to him because I enjoyed seeing his performances on TV. He sent me a handwritten reply and photograph. This was while he was acting in Charlie Girl at the Adelphi Theatre, in London. His letter mentioned his son Timothy, who was only slightly older than me. It was a charming and thoughtful letter, which leads me to believe that he was a very nice man and I still have it somewhere, together with his photograph.
This is, exactly, why I hold a rail when walking downstairs even though I don't need o. Like Derek,I am 69 years old and he lived for 69 years 158 days and, so far,I have lived for 69 years and 129 days and this shows how quickly life can change. Great Actor. R.I.P. Derek.

Nimmo's insurance career was not short. He even qualified professionally as an Associate (ACII) of the Chartered Insurance Institute. That took at least 5 years of examinations.
Thank you. The video made it sound like he was in insurance for three haircuts! As a quantity surveyor I can testify that five years of exams while working takes some doing! It also weeds people out!
I must confess I was a bit too young for All Gas and Gaiters but there was something about Nimmo's vocal delivery that would have me in stitches laughing. Great memories. Thanks.
I met him when he was in a play at the Phonix Theatre in Leicester, about 1975; he bought a bookcase from my antiques shop, and paid for it with a Coutt's cheque!

In 1979, I played in a show/review with 3 Australian actors, produced by Nimmo at the Intercontinental hotel in Dubai (for ex-pats) - then the only hotel in a tiny Dubai. As I remember, he was a pleasant, engaging man who like a tipple, but still very pro.

Honestly, if you showed me a picture of him I'd know his name, I'd know his voice, but I wouldn't for the life of me know why or be abe to name anything he was ever in, unless maybe he did a couple of Carry On movies? I do remember him from Just A Minute though

Although he died in February 1999, it would be worth mentioning that the unfortunate incident which led to his death occurred in the beginning of December the previous year.

It wasn't the fall that killed him, it was the sudden stop in hospital. Probably the most dangerous place to be when you are seriously ill or injured is, a hospital ward.

He opened the door for me at Woolies in the 1970s, he must've been playing at the local theatre that week
He went to Quarry Bank school which later John Lennon went to which is why his first band was The Quarrymen.
didnt know that about the school thnx🙂

He was a very skilled comedic actor, but his personal life was more complex than it would appear. So sad about his demise. RIP Derek.

Yes, so did I, especially on the 🐧 ads.
So sad. As a child he made me laugh. RIP.
only as a child ? Yes it was childish humour .

Have you noticed how its always Americans who come up with this sort of thing about British actors? Opportunists..the lot of them.

I liked Derek in the show about a fuel station in Florida, All Gas & Gators
Just struck me that Derek Nimmo is a dead ringer for Noel Gallagher.😂
I just thought the same! 😂
Gallagher looks like a Thunderbird puppet.😂😂

Quarry Hill school is not a public school it is a State run school in Liverpool.
I think Americans call state schools, public schools
@@Howie57 I soon realised my mistake after posting it. Never mind, it will allow people in the USA that in the UK 'Public School' is private education.
That means that Nimmo and Lennon both went to the same school. Quarry bank.
Please Sir with all the characters like Duffy and Sharon.
That's the wrong Justin Nimmo. Derek Nimmo's son was born in the UK, the guy in the photos is an American actor born in the USA.
He also led cultural tours.
As a youngster I thought him a little odd and quirky watching him on TV 📺 🤪
Fancy that! I thought he was a rear gunner??😂
Saw him in an old movie the other day playing a flakey bloke as he did.
I'm afraid that your photo Justin Nimmo mistakenly shows the american actor. The actual is a British solicitor .
The wonders of internet research…
Pretty much the prototype father ted😊
And … Derek Nimmo possessed prehensile toes!
Get a decent British narrator !
Or at least one that can speak English properly.
Just a minute.
He was not liked in the village he lived. They won’t mow the grass round his grave. Or tend to it.
Why ?
@@victoriajones8747 Not sure. Perhaps it’s village people being clicky, he obviously did not fit in.
Or that he was a northern interloper in their snobby little village ...and a scouser to boot
Or he was a pain in the ass who thought the villagers should bow down to a washed up actor.
