That is way more of a complicated question than you would figure.
Based on what the player should know going into Super Metroid, though, it's a relatively simple "Yes, she's a human woman raised by Chozo after being orphaned by space pirates as a girl."
Yeah, even if you assume she's of human origin before meeting the Chozo, depending on where you are in the timeline, that question gets harder to answer.

You’ve struck gold with the format in this episode: someone who knows the game inside-out doing a speed run/ randomizer (Jirard was perfect) while Dan and Arin react to skips and tricks. I hope we see more of this in the future.
If Jirard really knew the game inside out, he would've known the Spore Spawn skip (which probably would've impressed Arin and Dan even more) and busted out some of the beginners tricks that actual SM speedrunners do on the reg. I'll readily admit that I'm quite spoiled for SM speedrunner content and that seeing The Completionist not being The Good Playerist usually makes me let out a frustrated groan, and the combo of the 2 doubly so.
I agree! I think what made the steamtrain Skyrim run so good was Dan reacting to skips and glitches and more of that same energy would be awesome!

@@LGBTPlayingGames Jirard definitely knows more than Arin and Dan at the end of the day and has great chemistry with them, so regardless if he is or isn't a super expert at the game it allows for smooth conversation flowing and some cool things for them to watch. Don't be a buzzkiller.
@@LGBTPlayingGames Nah, I agree with you. Jirard's definitely better than Arin and Dan, and is comparatively more impressive than those two, but he's on the lower end of speedrunning skill. Jirard just fits more of the "sequence breaker" rather than speedrunner. Still a fun watch, regardless.
I'm actually so glad we got to hear Dan's reaction to Matt and Ryan joking about him being in the Oathkeepers. An unfortunate number of people who didn't watch SuperMega saw that clip and didn't get that it was a joke, but goddamn was it funny.

@@pictonomii3295 That brings back memories.... "Luigi's Ballad" showed up in my "recommended," then I watched the "On The Wall" animated, then the whole SMB3 playthrough, and then I was a fan of the Grumps. It was right after Dan joined the show.
Remember that bit Arin had where he told Dan he had to admit he farts on the show or he’d get fired and it go SO heated because Dan was so adamant that he didn’t
I love around 41:02 you can just feel Jirard and Arin having the mental link moment to just go all in on ripping Dan while he's absent and if that's not a friendship moment, I dunno what is.

It's a valid question. The things Jirard is doing in this playthrough are the sort of things you have to practice over and over and over again. That requires an inhuman amount of patience.
@@Bluesit32 As someone who watches Jirard on stream a lot, I can definitely confirm that he plays Super Metroid Randomized (particular the combined version with Link to the Past) a LOT.
@@buchiklop110 it sounded like he plays it a lot but i was a little frustrated when he didnt do any chain bomb jumps to get extra stuff.

@@Bluesit32 It's kinda wild seeing him do stuff like Mockball skips and fairly precise walljumps, but then not do simple things like Heal + fill Reserve Tanks before saving, or breaking both the floor columns simultaneously at 1:12:25. And I think he forgot that he has regular bombs later on lol

Dan landing an amazing history/gaming joke with Helen of Troid and Arin slowly talking, joking and finally getting the punchline is one of the best things I've seen by them as a student of history.
I mostly remember Dan’s story about him and his friends being arrested for having beer from the Super Metroid playthrough. Hearing Dan describe the Boston PD accosting him and his friends while hauling beer down Commonwealth Avenue always cracks me up. “Uhh….you boys…..uhhhh….fucking serious? How old are you?”
Episodes like this remind me why I still watch Game Grumps. This was really fun and easy to watch; having a third party seems to bring out the best in these two. Nice job.
BTW, lovely new backdrop, I had no intention of ever missing the old one, but I do now that it's gone...whatever, I'll get used to it.

@@jessehcreative Horrible management that changed over four times in just 11 months. They wanted to be everything: TV, twitch, and RUclips. Also they tried to cater to the young twitch crowd and had a show with some extremely expensive guests on. It was a mess. I loved the content, though! Jirard was great on Xplay, and Attack of the Show was a standout. It was a really well-down revival in terms of the videos we got, but management just had no idea what to do.
And now he's killing it with his backers...in a bad way.

My favorite thing about Game grumps is that I can go back and watch them all again from the start from when they first began. Because every episode is different and amazing.

In Scary Game Squad it is nigh on impossible to tell the difference between Jirard and Alex. In this, I cannot tell when it is Arin or Jirard. A true chameleon of a performer.

In regard to the pink Brinstar room, where you normally get the charge beam and they got their second E-tank, and Jirard mentioned the lower room where you need the Gravity suit (which he mistakenly called the Varia suit) to move through water--they actually could've done it then with shinesparking, and it's not too difficult.
Yeah, I was hoping someone would bring this up.
Also he absolutely did not need to do a Hell Run without Varia with normal randomizer logic.
My favorite moments from your previous Super Metroid play through, are when you screamed when Draygon swam into view, and the entire fight with Mother Brain; especially the reaction to the metroid's death.
Sanic with Jirard was the first ever Grumps series I saw that they actually finished! It took bringing the Completionist on to play it while GG sat and watched for them to finish a series I watched, lol.

Great runthrough! Recently I got to witness OatsnGoats do Super Metroid Kaizo at GDQ and that is damn crazy game/run. Talk about perfect sequencing. Love seeing Metroid speed runs and sequence break runs.

This video was great. I could tell y’all had a lot of fun with it. I watch a pro speed runner play almost daily and run myself somewhat often, and to hear you guys going through all the cool stuff in the games and then finding out how cool the physics are, is so nice. This is by far my favorite game. Thanks for the great content!
I love it when people see the speed run nonsense, had an old video series on here showing a lot of them with explanations, the tunnel run with the doors but using the ball method is quite a fun one if you get done right

@27:50 -ish: just so there's no confusion: A) you need the *Gravity* suit to run through water, and B) you can actually get the item in that particular room (behind the charge beam) without the Gravity suit, using a "short charge." ie; start walking, and hold run once Samus is at full walking momentum. It takes less distance to build up a charge. (Not to be confused with a *quick charge,* which involves tapping the L or R buttons at a specific rate, and is much trickier to pull off).
@33:00 actually, there's a creature who shows you how to shinespark (the speedbooster charge-up, then super-jump). It runs, glows blue, crouches, and jumps.
@1:17:00 ish: that's another good spot for a short charge.

Super Metroid was the first Game Grumps series i watched from start to finish. It's nice to see them revisit one of my favorite games ever

Just started rewatching the Super Metroid GG playthrough yesterday so this is cool to see.
Super Metroid Randomizer! I love watching these on SpeedGaming. I hope Jirard shows off A Link to the Past Randomizer, and then SMZ3, which is a combination of A Link to the Past and Super Metroid Randomizer, where you can go between the two games, finding Super Metroid items in A Link to the Past, and vice versa. SMZ3 would blow their minds.
I hope somebody who's actually good at those randomizers shows up instead.

The first episode of Super Metroid is when I subbed to the channel back in like 2013. Y'all are the best.
This made my day super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time and the series that got me into grumps all those years back so nice to see them come back to this gem

The part regarding the wall jump is how I felt. It's the only time it happens in Super Metroid and it took me forever to learn how to do it

It's was really cool seeing Gerard in a GG vid cuz in pretty much all of his vids he's very professional and he's adiuo is recorded after the game, because of that I don't think I've ever heard him laugh before, he has a very contagious laugh for sure.
Also thought that it was kinda clever that when Dan went to the bedroom Arin talked about how great Dan is, and when Arin went to the bedroom Gerard turned the conversation into talking about how great Arin is.
This was just a straight up good time all around. Have him come back and do more of these!

Here's hoping there's more episodes of this. They have in-logic access to the major locations of "Hoptank", "Waterway", "Speedbooster", "Wave Beam", "Norfair Reserve", "Crocomire E-Tank", "Grapple", everything in Wrecked Ship, and probably a few others. I would think Jirard would remember the settings they put for the hack. It's a major-minor split, so nothing important was going to be in any of those minor item checks (like at "Climb Supers"). X-ray is out of logic until you find Grapple or Varia since X-ray D-Boost is never in-logic (although it has an E-tank threshold which can put it in-logic).
Holy shit I really love having Jirard here with the Game Gumps, he matches their chaos so perfectly!
