Finally took the time to make this ridiculously over complicated How To video! Took me nearly 9 hours of filming, editing, and uploading. Hope you enjoy :)
Just got my first RC car, a 1/16 Summit, so this video is perfect to learn how to do this stuff. I'm truly grateful for the clear details for each step!
Awesome video! Just a recommendation for anyone doing this repair, you should be lightly greasing all of the o-rings and all of the components during the rebuild. It helps keep dirt out and makes a better seal at the rings.
I like how we can slowly hear your sanity slipping throughout the video. It's that real instructor instruction that I'm looking for in my teardown videos. A teardown of the vehicle and the soul.
By far the best instructional video I’ve seen! You show everything step by step and explain in detail, thanks for the work put into this video it was amazing and will help me out for sure!
I do not have a Merv but I can appreciate all time put into this video for others. Notice when he was putting the first diff back on he had rockers on then showed a shot after wards of him putting it on with rockers off. Showing how to do it either way. That is very thoughtful. Thank you.
Super helpful video. I have to repair my son's Summit 1/16, the front diff is making a clicking noise. Now I know which steps are needed. Thank you for sharing
Excellent tutorial one of the best I've seen ever! I can't wait to pick a couple of mini slashes for the backyard! Thanks for all the time and work you put in to making this super easy to fallow, 🥃cheers🍻
Thank you very much. This is a very good, detailed and easy to understand, "how to," video. I had already studied the exploded views that came with the parts manual and felt comfortable that it was a somewhat easy job, but there is nothing to replace a good hands on visual. Thank you again.
You must be a teacher or instructor cause you show and explain so easily to understand thank you very much this was very helpful, how do you keep that car so clean I have all kinds of rust and dirt even after cleaning
I want to buy the e Revo 1/16 VXL, but I was afraid about the maintenance. your video helped me a lot, now I think I can repair the car by myself! Hope I can buy one! Thank you for this amazing video!
Thank you so much for all of your detailed tutorial videos regarding these RCs! I also really appreciate the detail you go into in your jester upgrade playlist too!
Love your videos, by far the best on RC car maintenance! I know it's fairly simple but there is not one decent video on 1/16th E Revo VXL slipper clutch removal and reinstallation. Hopefully someone makes a good video on that.
I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. I can use it as an audio/visual guide while I am working on the Kyle Busch 1/16 I just picked up off ebay. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot for this helpful video! I have a Summit 1/16 and so far I haven't taken anything apart, but when I will have to do this for the first few times, this video will be a great reference!
Dude, thanks so much for the detailed video on getting to the diffs on mini erevo. It’s an advanced project but with your video, easy peezy. You rock! How about a video on gearing. It’s so important in RC but it’s a bit complicated. Help a brother out. Lol. Thanks
I just anxiety watching the disassembly of the diff. 🤯😄 I would be so worried I wouldn’t get it back together again! Are there people you can take your car to who can do this? Haha! Great and very informative video! 👍
My slash has this weird low speed wobble. I've installed new knuckle bearings, HR knuckles, axle stubs, wheels and still there's a wobble. I will have to open up the rear differential and change out those bearings. Hopefully that fixes it so thanks for the how to on this!
Great job on all ur vids. Keep up the good work. Can u show us how to set toe and camber manually, without the gauges. Thanks and appreciate the time u put into these, super helpful!
For anyone that has it, I suggest you use acetone to clean all the METAL parts. It helps clean it up a lot, and you just have to dip the parts in, wait a couple minutes, pull it out and give it a good wipe!
Try using a big syringe(without the needle of course) for storing and applying the grease. Makes it alot easier, faster and cleaner. That is what I use.
thank you so much @darkeclipticheart for making this video. I am not new but i did not know how to shim the diffs. Thank you so much man! I subscribed!
Yeah I'm not to sure about it only goes in one way. Had to do this with my rear diff and I put the rear duff in backwards because I put it in the way it turned easier and got it back together and the back wheels went backwards while the front wheels went forward
Thank you so much for making this video Jason. You've helped me so much by making this vid because I need to replace my rear diff on my Merv and clean up my front diff.My merv's theme is blue and black and you are great when it comes to coming up awesome rc names and I wanted to ask you if you could come up with a good name for mine?I would really like if the name was aggressive and tough sounding.Thx for taking the time to read my comment and keep up the great work.😃
im looking for the e-revo vxl 1/16 differential housing. Had a very hard front impact and the two ends that goes inside the chasis area where the diferential join broke apart and lost front differential and support. Do you know where I can find it?
thanks for taking the time to make this video, I just have a question though, why would I need to do this ? just to clean it? or is this part known to get damaged easily hopefully not cause this process seems complicated its like rebuilding the truck
Ben Pyka They start “clicking” and using some shims seems to fix the problem. It may be more of an issue with the VXL versions as mine were “clicking” the first day on 2 different 1/16 brand new vehicles straight out of the box. The hobby store I got them from recommended using some shims and it’s been working for years, however, that “clicking” recently returned. I’m debating weather or not I should invest in an aftermarket differential or maybe even an aluminum diff housing as I’ve already got some shims in the original diff.
Just thought I'd say, 6 years later and this is still one of the best instructional videos I've watched regarding RC repair.
Finally took the time to make this ridiculously over complicated How To video! Took me nearly 9 hours of filming, editing, and uploading. Hope you enjoy :)
+darkeclipticheart incredible! thanks for the time you put in this! Will help me and others for sure!!

Thank you for taking the time to make this very informative video. Like your other vids good info to take away .
Just got my first RC car, a 1/16 Summit, so this video is perfect to learn how to do this stuff. I'm truly grateful for the clear details for each step!
Wow man am 36 years old new to this rc world and thank you such a good video man god bless you
Awesome video! Just a recommendation for anyone doing this repair, you should be lightly greasing all of the o-rings and all of the components during the rebuild. It helps keep dirt out and makes a better seal at the rings.
I just subbed because I love how you show every single step, unlike other people who explain what to do but don't straight up show you.
I like how we can slowly hear your sanity slipping throughout the video. It's that real instructor instruction that I'm looking for in my teardown videos. A teardown of the vehicle and the soul.
My 1/16th slash is working again! I can't imagine how much longer it would have taken me to fix my RC without this video. Many thanks.
By far the best instructional video I’ve seen! You show everything step by step and explain in detail, thanks for the work put into this video it was amazing and will help me out for sure!

This was so helpful. Turned a daunting task into something relatively straight forward. Thanks for making and posting.
Super helpful video. I have to repair my son's Summit 1/16, the front diff is making a clicking noise. Now I know which steps are needed. Thank you for sharing

The best how-to vid's for Traxxas-owners: super explained! Thx so much. Grz from René, Holland

I need to replace the servo saver on my 1/16th Slash and this is exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Ordered the Hot Racing front and rear aluminum bulkhead + front and rear Hot Racing diffs.
I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. I can use it as an audio/visual guide while I am working on the Kyle Busch 1/16 I just picked up off ebay.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks a Million. !!! 1/16 Slash 4x4 will need it soon . noise just started & sounding like a Coffee grinder on rear diff.
Thanks a lot for this helpful video! I have a Summit 1/16 and so far I haven't taken anything apart, but when I will have to do this for the first few times, this video will be a great reference!
I'm gonna go ahead and say this was a well made video. Now i'm gonna go ahead and use this info to go ahead and do this to my merv. Thanks!

Oh, I figured it out! Haven't been fiddling with any RC for years so my skills were a bit rusty...
So far the best instructional I've seen, thanks!
Rowan Kortenhorst Good to hear :)
Thanks for uploading! MAN that process is complicated though, great job!
just bought two mini erevos that need diff gears replaced (gears look worn out) , thanks for the video.
Brilliant. Thank you. Couldn't have done this without your guidance. Thanks again.

Please, does the diff washer for E-Revo 1/16VXL has any item code? TRA???? I like your How To videos much, it is really helpful, great job!

4:30
Amazing video. Thank you!
U R A STUD! THANKYOU VERY MUCH! YOU'RE A LIFESAVER! :)
Traxxas seems to make maintenance as difficult as possible. Why does everything have to come apart to get to the differentials??
im looking for the e-revo vxl 1/16 differential housing. Had a very hard front impact and the two ends that goes inside the chasis area where the diferential join broke apart and lost front differential and support. Do you know where I can find it?
Hi,
Appreciate these videos,
I'm wondering if you have any videos on slayer pro diff vids?
Thank you SO much for this video!
Hey what springs do you use Black and Tan or all green and what shock oil do you use? And do you use a different spring in the front too.
Good job it helps a lot thank you 👍
Quick question. What’s the name of those Proline wheels on the Merv, at the end?
thanks for taking the time to make this video, I just have a question though, why would I need to do this ? just to clean it? or is this part known to get damaged easily hopefully not cause this process seems complicated its like rebuilding the truck
Wondering the same thing here. Also how do you know if these need shimmed or not?
Wish someone would answer.
Shim your diffs, it makes them stronger and it wont strip
Bastian, it pushes the diff gears together, so that they won't strip out.
This was exactly what I needed to see. My front diff is shot. smmfh
If you use the Hot Racing diffs, do you kno whether or not you use the O rings or not?
Thanks for the great video, now I know what I never want to do! LOL that is a lot to do bro.
One tip, putting the shaft in dry is not good forthe o ring, a little oil might prevent tearing and sort of help the seal work properly
When shimming the differential, how do I know how many shims I need?
Great demonstration
Very good video! 👌🏻
perfect. thanks for the time!!
I just rebuilt my diffs, but they don't turn when I tighten the screws. Do you have any idea what I might have done wrong?
What about gears, that are right near motor? Do they need to be oiled too?
The grub screws should have probably had blue loctite added on them.
