Dude. I just bought the E Revo on a whim because I had loved my RC cars as a kid and now over 40 I am looking to have some fun. I have been worried about the decision to spend a couple hundred bucks on a toy, but this video has given me so much confidence in the community and my decision to buy. Thank you for this great video. I will be referencing it for some time to get the most out of it as time and money allow. Absolutely LOVED the holding the camera with your chin, noting the fact, then immediately dropping it as I would have done the same. Thanks again for what I would consider the inside scoop!

I did that too. I didn’t even know there was a ball bearing upgrade for that upper and lower plastic pivot bushing. Sure makes the steering a lot more responsive.
5 year old video but glad I found it. My stepson said he was bringing a bunch of rc stuff to me and if I didn’t want it to sell it. He is out of college and working now so his hobbies have long since changed. I was expecting toys or cheap junk but boy was I surprised! It’s older stuff but most is brand new and never even unboxed and in the pile were two 1/16 Erevo’s!! One brushless and one brushed. Plus a few Horizon Hobby helicopters and drones, a couple Spektrum transmitters, chargers, a couple other cheaper Traxxas rc vehicles. His dad works for Amazon and brought him returns over the years. The Nimh batteries that were in the boxes only gave 1-2 minute run times so I cut the connectors off and put them on a couple 2s and 3s lipos. I have only tried the 2s so far because it got dark but this little thing is a beast just on 2s! Looking forward to running the 3s soon!
@@jethro450 3 years ago I was running something RC every single day, car, plane, drone, or helicopter, but then 1 July 2021 we bought a small farm and I was excited at first, I was going to have all this land to enjoy my toys whenever I wanted! But, I didn’t know that my wife’s plan was to get animals right away. So then my daily play time turned into taking care of animals and I have only touched my rc stuff maybe 4 times since then! I have some upgrades to add, and notes. I had my 1/16th for about 30 minutes before my Servo stripped, so I upgraded to the Savox Metal Gear. I had the truck one week before I stripped my rear diff, so I ordered another, and that one stripped about as fast. So I took the truck apart, and found that my Slipper was seized, the bearing was shot and the slipper was rusted shut (just because the truck is water proof, doesn't mean the components are). I cleaned my slipper, and then when I put the spring back on I put a small washer between the spring and the new slipper bearing, so that the spring wasn't pressing against the slipper bearing seal. I also ordered a center differential, and loosened my slipper. This center Diff and loosened slipper really made a big difference in the enjoyment of the truck. I have yet to strip a diff and I've ran 8 2S lipo packs through it. The truck also seems to be better balanced when going around turns. If I strip another diff, I've heard that the aluminum bulkheads/diff housings really make a difference because they don't flex when ran hot which causes slop and stripping. We will see. :) My tires kept getting filled with sand, so I filled the inside holes and put 4 holes around the tread of the tire to let the sand out. I did a bearing upgrade kit to have some extra bearings but also to replace the rocker arm bushings and some of the other bushings like the steering bushings, and some bearings that went out. If you want your truck to last, you have to maintain it and keep it clean. I also did the front bulkhead screw/secure and it helps quite a bit. Metal Atomik Axle Carriers are a major difference. Shock Socks o homemade Shock Savers using ziploc sandwich bags instead; cutting strips and making the socks out of those instead, fast and free upgrade. They are also more flexible and water resistant. The key to these is to keep dirt away from the seals. Thanks Jethro super helpful.
Just want to tell you how much that I enjoyed your video I know it’s a couple years old but I find it still very relevant. I’m a 69-year-old guy but enjoying the Hobby with my grandson thanks for all the tips.
The E- Revo mini is just as capable as the E-Revo 2.0 concerning power and FUN!!! I invested in the clip keepers and they work fine. Before then, I was losing clips like MAD. I think the E- Revo mini is a good investment and plenty fun.
As someone who’s thinking about upgrading my son’s 1/16 Slash to a MERV and getting another MERV for myself, this was awesome, thank you. One tip to add: Traxxas’ own metal servo gear set (TRX2082X) fits into the stock servo. We stripped the plastic gears pretty quickly on our mini Slash, but metal ones have had a lot of abuse already and are holding up.
I just got this RC as my first one. I will definitely be coming back to this video as upgrades are needed. Definitely going to be keeping it 2S to keep things cool. Thanks for the expertise!
Thanks for the video, I added center diff and metal hollow balls and stealing’s is even smother. Also I added the metal gears to the stock servo and works perfect
Awesome video, this is essentially a crash course to Mini E-Revo ownership. I've had mine for about a year and a half now and I learned most of that the hard way. I also had no idea they made a bearing for the steering servo saver assembly... gonna have to get that
I never owned one bought a more affordable one which is the e revo brushed mini, i love it been going hard and just grinded the spur gear, i just bought the 2s2200 battery which made it much faster, got a lot to learn but you really shared some great info, I'm gonna try most when time comes, velcro genius, antenna to, thanks bro
Could you tell me if you suggest replacing the spur gear with a metal one or three plastic is better to avoid damaging something other than the spur gear
I'm even a civil engineer... wouldn't take much to get the mechanical degree! That would actually be pretty fun. I'd have fun both destroying them and designing them
What shim the ring gear closer to the pinion gear? I noticed the Traxxas Diffs aren’t very tight tolerances even brand new. Outdrives move more than I would like to see.. That throws off the gear mesh also by putting leverage on it inside and not stay where it should..
some great tips (lot of stuff I agree with, have the same exact same 2s and 3s lipos and lot of the upgrades) can't believe anyone uses body posts clips, the velcro mod was the very first mod I did kinda shame I don't run my mini much....since I got the big revo few years later I run mostly that one (would probably be different if I had a small track in my backyard ;o) I have the castle 1406 big block conversion + sidewinder 1/10 esc, hitec servo and few other upgrade pars - aluminium shocks and steel push rods and toe links, rpm knucles, extended rear arms and proline trencher 2.2 tires....and a spektrum radio (anything is better than traxxas, maybe the newer ones are not as bad as they were 10 years ago) if you run in wet/snow you need closed cell tire inserts which do not suck up water, sadly they are maybe hard to get now, proline and other companies used to sell them but discontinued them, I have a box full of them as I was buying all different ones I could find trying to match different tires (I have like 4 boxes of different truck and buggy wheels and tires and closed cells) how did you do the front to center skidplate mod? is it just drilled through and use a nut and scew? never seen that one but it makes a lot of sense....chassis flex and as a result bulkhead flex and diff misalignment always have been a weak point on both revos (big and small) honestly I don't know why it's just one screw holding the halves together, if it would have 2 screws it would help remedy the issues a lot imo
Hey, at the point in your video when you start talking about the sloppy toe and suspension push rod links and how when you said it wasn’t any better to get the Traxxas aluminum links- well, from what I found out on my stepsons e Revo 1/16, the reason why those don’t seem to last very long is because Traxxas puts them cheap plastic hollow balls inside the rod ends so hopefully those expensive aluminum Traxxas toe links or suspension push rods you bought, you didn’t throw those away because you can go on the Traxxas parts page for these cars and for just a couple bucks, you can buy a package of 20 steel replacement hollow balls that will work in the cheap red plastic non-adjustable links and even in the Traxxas aluminum links.
Grate tips only thing I can add is if you do strip a plastic hole use a drop of CA "super glue" alowe it to dry then retap with the original screw... I plan to use your tips on the slash version can't wait to get out and play again thanks for all the grate tips!!! 🥃cheers🍻
id add, get the center diff upgrade, stuff it full of 100K...lock it in with metal skid plates to hold the housing together better, will save your front/rear diffs and make it fly around turns and up hills.
Really surprised about those servos I have given my e revo some abuse it basically needs rebuilding and I haven’t had a issue with the servo, it’s definitely on my to do list is to get it back to full working order
Thank you for explaining the wear of the bearings an tie rods! That is extremely valuable info, especially for someone like myself who's only about 2 months onto the hobby lol I'm pretty confident in taking apart my cars an putting them back together at this point just was having a hard time actually pin pointing issues and this really helped. Thank you!
One of, if not the best RC mod videos out there. Entirely informative and useful. Your list of mods and warnings about things like gear rations is invaluable. I own 1 1/16 Velion Rally, (the original) and turned it into a much more controllable road car. Body, 1/10 wheels and soft X pattern tires, Traxxas newest radio, and receiver with the stable/adjustable steering tech. I have had two 2010 Camaro bodies. I think I bought the last one available on the planet, btw. Anyway, enough about me! My son has the 1/16 Revo and I'm forwarding the vid to him. Thanks! PS; I'm attempting to mount the new body using 10th scale magnetic mounts. The body has no holes in it. I'm going to check an see if the velcro is possible for my car.
i run mine on 21/43 metal, its vxl and summit tires. Stupid fast... rpm arms, gtr shocks, summit springs, metal push rod, front metal tie rods, lights, t-bone skid, savox servo and 2s or 3s zippy 2200. cheapo radio and reciever with good range.
Awesome video!! Just got 2 e-revos for my son and I. I know very little about this hobby but were anxious to learn. This is tons of valuable newbie info. Thanks so much!
I watch these videos for learning purposes. And they're fun. And many channels do well. It's cool to see E-Revo or Summit tires on a mini. If the joints are wearing out, the end result is too heavy. Those tires look used on the flats and not on the edges. Cut the edges off. If the edges are not wearing down, they aren't serving much purpose if the joints don't like the extra weight. Just remove it.
One I'll throw out is center diff for the minis too helps so much in performance and stay on the throttle while turning...well for the most part you'll thank me later!
WOW~! my friend a really BIG Traxxas Supporter I see. I also support the Traxxas brand owning several Traxxas vehicles including the Sport Maxx, T-Maxx, Revo 3.3 Mini E-Revo, Mini Slash 4X4 & Slash 2WD and dont forget the Defender TRX-4 and lot of Tamiya Models I like wrenching on them but dont really have the space. I took a few notes concerning the bearings issue & my Mini Slash is having that issue with the wheel wobbling so I now I need to replace the bearing & also took down a few part numbers you listed in the video. Good job I really enjoyed your video.
One of the best support videos on youtube. I am new to the hobby and trying to find the best platform. in 2020 has anything changed that eclipses the E Revo 1/16?
Single best upgrade not on the list is the TiN coated shock shafts. The super smooth surface means the seals work better and the shocks don't constantly bleed out oil. Huge improvement in maintenance. Much cheaper upgrade than the full GTR shocks or some other brand of aluminum shock.
Used rpm uppers and lowers. Need upgrade turn buckles. Toe is completely out of wack. Also the front lowers were labeled backwards. Didn't realize it till all back together.
Very helpful video! Thanks!!! My sons and I have a couple Mini E Revos we bought used. Your video is going to be very helpful to us going forward. Thanks!
I found the stock springs to be too soft for bashing, and running over rough terrain. Truck would slap it’s chassis going over rough terrain. I put the pink springs on mine with 50wt oil and it’s so much better over rough terrain, it still dampens the bumps but with less chassis slap on the ground.
Atomik rc makes aluminum tie rods that are pretty affordable. They definitely last much longer before they start to wear out and are worth it in my opinion. Just be careful when tightening the front ones up to the bellcrank because they use a smaller size hex than the stock. Tight enough is tight enough!
What weight diff fluid did you end up using? I tried using 500 K and then 1 million in the center of my stepsons mini Erivo that’s been converted to VXL and even that wasn’t heavy enough so I went all the way up to 20 million weight and I think he’s pretty happy with it.
@@traviswilliams3209 awesome! Glad to help. Traxxas actually recommends the holes in the tire thing with their UDR to get sand out of the tires. So it’s a solid tip coming from them.
I have two of these e Revo vxl 1/16 th scales and one big 1/10 aka imo 1/8th scale e Revo plus 6 other cars. All electric ALL TRAXXAS lol. My two mini e revos are both VXL’s with that same mini 380 size 4000 KV motor. All my cars are worth it man they are incredible. I decided since I’m a speed demon to do mod 1 gearing on my big e Revo mamba monster brushless 25 tooth pinion 40 tooth spur. With my two minis I’m geared 31 pinion 45 spur lol. I love speed man I can’t have much fun with 20-30 mph. 32-35 mph and up is when it starts to get fun.
Thank you so so so much this helped so much my mini summit broke the first day I got it. The diff and survo went out. I appreciate this so so much keep up the good work
Awesome video! Planning to buy 1/16 E REVOs (brushed) for my self and daughter (6). Any other reccomendations in the smaller scale cars, or am I on the right track? Thanks
Great video man! How durable would you say it becomes? Seems like you have to spend a lot of money to upgrade it but still won’t be as durable as similar trucks like granite grom or mjx series?
Yo! This video is amazing!👌 Thanks man! The point that you mentioned to replace the stock steering servo with the Savox is very true. I had my stock servo strip on my first runs as well😂. Since you have a lot of experience, I wanted to ask somethings. I run a single 2s Venom 2200 35C on my Mini Erevo VXL on stock gearing. I know that when the battery dies on Lipo cutoff mode the truck shuts off and limits itself to steering only. But sometimes the battery doesn't die but the truck goes into 'limp' / steering only mode, and I've noticed when that happens the ESC is pretty hot. You got any ideas what's happening and any solutions?
There’s two modes on the esc when things happen. 1) too hot. Does exactly what you said. 2) low battery ( not all the way dead). It will run at 50% throttle to warn you battery is low. If it gets too low, it’ll act like it’s too hot. Won’t run at all and steering still works. Do you have bigger tires on? That’ll heat it up with stock gearing. You probably need to hear it down just a tad to keep the electronics cooler.
I don’t. I’m a bad example of that too. I spray them off with water and then use an air compressor to completely dry them. That’s probably not the best way to do it.
@@jethro450 haha. It's ok. Your video helped me out alot. And truly it doesn't really matter how you clean. I was just curious. I usually just use compressed air. Lol
Hey, great video! Thanks! These tipps are awesome! Learned much about the mini revo. I plan to buy one, and with your tipps i can make it from the beginning better. 👍👌
Awesome video! Thank you so much for the tips. One thing though, have you ever tried the Hitec HS-82MG servo? I know some owners had this servo but can't find any feedback... It's been a long time since I ran my E-Revo and I'm running it again... Hoping on some upgrades and the servo is one of them.
Hey so I just got into this whole hobby and bought myself a new e revo 1/16. So my goal with this is to start off small and do things right. Now I’m not in a hurry to build the car up right away and all that mostly bc id like to make it an actual hobby and do things at a time. So I’d like to not race around at 50mph all the time I mostly am looking to run moderately and play around for longer periods of time. This would most likely mean running 2s in parallel. My question is what kind of charge times and things am I looking at for 2 2s 2200mah batteries if I got the ez peak plus dual charger? Also what kind of things do you think I’ll need to do to right off to run the longer run times and not overheat? Also what is your cleaning recommendations after running in sand? Thank you in advance!!
Man I have no experience with the ez peak charger so I don't know. It shouldn't take more than an hour tops though. As for heat, if you run it 2S and leave it on stock gearing, you'll be fine. If you get bigger tires we found the gearing I put in the info section to work really well. Sand. Nothing but maybe some compressed air. We really like our mini's, but they do have some weak points to fix. Once fixed, they last a long time.
I have a 1/16 e revo vxl and it brakes a ton! Do you have any durability upgrades? Nice video! Also you are so right about the bearings I put them in and my steering is so nice!
I’m on the fence with aluminum upgrades. Yes they’re stronger, but that just means something else will break instead of the metal. Or the metal will bend. They’re heavier but they look cool! I don’t know, give it a try and see what ya think. Then report back!
I’ve been running gear mesh of 23/55 with summit tires on 2S and it’s been great. Are you saying don’t run this same mesh for 3S? I ran it once like that but not hard. Just wanted to be clear of what your experience has been
Thinking of getting this car as my first rc ever, would you say it’s a good first time car? Also, to achieve the 50 mph “top speed” I need 2 batteries and the included 23 pinion? What batteries are best for performance, last a while in one run on one charge, and keep the truck going fast??
On 13:00 part of the video u talk about those ball bearings and i installed them myself instead of rubber ones, but now that plastic cover part wich secures the think dont seem to go that well on anymore it leaves a gab on that place u told afterward to put screws at to secure the flexibility of cover and i dont know how can i losen it so it would fit nicely and i could put on those screws to it :C
I've had a mini revo for years now. Just bought a vxl slash so now I'm wanting to build my mini into a vxl. Could you let me know what the pinion and spur gears are on a vxl mini revo?
What you can upgrade a mini to a VXL? IM SOO tired of my mini E-Revo flipping over when I turn 😒 I figure a bigger one would work better for turning and everything probably
5 years later and I still use this video

🥃cheers🍻
Jack Daniels excellent tip!
id add, get the center diff upgrade, stuff it full of 100K...lock it in with metal skid plates to hold the housing together better, will save your front/rear diffs and make it fly around turns and up hills.
Thank you!
Glad it helped, good luck and have fun!
Awesome!
Wow! 18 minutes of incredible tips. Such a good video for a future owner. Thank you!
One of the best platforms ever
I read this and laughed so long I pissed myself.
I guess you best go change your diaper kiddo
quality of this video is amazing, how you thought out all the tips and everything was a bug help. Thank you. (plus 1 sub)
i run mine on 21/43 metal, its vxl and summit tires.
Any specific brands for the diff you got?
@@barspinsallday traxxas is what i bought. I also bought a slipper clutch eliminator to put in once i got the center diff.
The first upgrade I did on my mini revo was aluminum shocks. Got tired of the leaking. Haha
Doing it right man! Your daughter had me bawling with laughter! velcro... mind blown.
Thanks dawg. You know these things better than Traxxas themselves.
Haha thanks!
@@jethro450 Came back to watch again. A gentleman and a scholar you are. Can’t thank you enough 🙏
WOW~! my friend a really BIG Traxxas Supporter I see.
Glad to help man!
Iove this video! I just got my first rc car. Mini e revo! It's a blast! I've watched this video a bunch of times. So much good info!
Awesome! Good luck
One of the best support videos on youtube. I am new to the hobby and trying to find the best platform. in 2020 has anything changed that eclipses the E Revo 1/16?
The VXL model
Awesome list. I'm looking at getting a 1/16th ERevo for my son and this video saved me a bit of research and time.
Single best upgrade not on the list is the TiN coated shock shafts. The super smooth surface means the seals work better and the shocks don't constantly bleed out oil. Huge improvement in maintenance. Much cheaper upgrade than the full GTR shocks or some other brand of aluminum shock.
Do you have a link?
Used rpm uppers and lowers. Need upgrade turn buckles. Toe is completely out of wack. Also the front lowers were labeled backwards. Didn't realize it till all back together.
Very helpful video! Thanks!!! My sons and I have a couple Mini E Revos we bought used. Your video is going to be very helpful to us going forward. Thanks!
What have you replaced and upgraded now?? Anything???
If you get metal skid plates that go over the rear differential. It will keep it from stripping
I use velcro on most my rcs it does work
I found the stock springs to be too soft for bashing, and running over rough terrain.
Tight enough is tight enough!
informative AF my guy. This is what RUclips is all about!
THANK YOU.
Just got a mini e-revo and this is a gold mine of great info!!!
Happy to help, enjoy!
I don’t have a e revo, I have a bandit but these tips still helped me. You earn a 👍🏼
nice video, i went with the center diff, it works amazing.
What weight diff fluid did you end up using? I tried using 500 K and then 1 million in the center of my stepsons mini Erivo that’s been converted to VXL and even that wasn’t heavy enough so I went all the way up to 20 million weight and I think he’s pretty happy with it.
Good video. Thinking about getting one for my grandson. Thanks
Following your battery and gearing tips, are an esc cooling fan and/or a motor heat sink not necessary then? Thanks for the great tips and links!
I still use the fans. Run it hard nonstop and it still gets warm
Best video ever for mini revo tips. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome
nice video! poke holes in your tires to get the water out, thumb tack is plenty big enough, spin em up and shield your eyes
I have been doing this lately, works great!
Yes, and doesnt ruin the tires at all. I just picked up a used one so this has been very helpful
I appreciate this so so much keep up the good work
Thanks for the tips, the skidplate tip is worth it's weight in gold!
I thru in an aluminum rear bulk head no more rear flex stopped stripping the rear differential
I should have listened and gotten the metal gear servo and installed it before I even put batteries in it and took it out to have fun.
Justin Vess haha ya it doesn’t take long
Just ordered my mini revo vxl can't wait, thanks for the info much appreciated:D
Nice detail. I don't even own this one, but I'm going to store my trucks off the wheels.
Hobby Media definitely helps!

Thanks for adding the links.
Thanks for using them! If any don’t work, please let me know.
@@jethro450 you're a good person.
Thank you so much THIS IS PURE GOLD.
Hands down, best video out there. Thanks for this invaluable information.
thanks man!
Of course that drill is gonna strip the screws the m18 fuel hammer drill is a beast
Just gotta be careful. Haven’t stripped one yet
Awesome video! Planning to buy 1/16 E REVOs (brushed) for my self and daughter (6). Any other reccomendations in the smaller scale cars, or am I on the right track? Thanks
You're on the right track man, good luck!
What a quality video. Thanks man
This video got you a sub! I’ve been doing research on the mini Erevo. This was the best I’ve seen.
Great video man! How durable would you say it becomes? Seems like you have to spend a lot of money to upgrade it but still won’t be as durable as similar trucks like granite grom or mjx series?
Thank you so much for this gold mine of information
.Thank you for this presentation, I am only absorbing it all now. It has helped me a lot with my one and only erevo and summit, Cheers
Found a vxl for $50. Can't wait to grab it.
Wow! That's a steal
@@jethro450 looks like it has a cheaper radio but it's all here.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Excellent video.
Best video iv seen on any RC ever 👌 👏
Thanks man
Awsome. Thanks love my 1/16 revos. Was wondering what springs and oil for shocks . You saved be lots of time . Peace
ericanshutz45 check out the 8:26 part of the video, thanks!
Superb thank you 🙏 just bought one to join my maxx and rustler :)
Awesome!
Yo!
This video is amazing!👌
Thanks man!
@@jethro450 I got everything stock. Stock tyres as well.
Thanks for the tips man!
Greatly appreciated 👍
@@jethro450 Running 23/55 wont solve the overheating issue with the stock velineon motor
Looks like you have been through a few sets of tires. Which are your favorites. You mentioned them but did not see a link. Thx.
All the pro tips thanks for that my friend God Bless and have a good one.
I love good deals like that (xmaxx)have 2 reg size revos an about to buy a mini love the revo line up
This helped me so much. Thank you for making this video.
Absolutely fantastic video! true gold mine here my friend 👍👍
Thanks alot. Do you have a video of how you clean your trucks? I saw some with silicone spray... Some with other methods...
I have not used that one before, sorry
I have two 10th erevo two emax two 4x4 stampede three rustler four speed Pioneers trx6 snap-on hauler trx4 blazer scx10 hpi sprint
This guy is a LEGEND 🙌 👏 👌
Thanks!. The velcro tip is so helpful
Yes, I've loved that little option for many years now
I have a 1/16 e revo vxl and it brakes a ton! Do you have any durability upgrades? Nice video! Also you are so right about the bearings I put them in and my steering is so nice!
Thank you for all the info. Your video has been extremely helpful for me. Do you recommend alloy skid plates on the revo?
I’m on the fence with aluminum upgrades. Yes they’re stronger, but that just means something else will break instead of the metal. Or the metal will bend. They’re heavier but they look cool! I don’t know, give it a try and see what ya think. Then report back!
I’ve been running gear mesh of 23/55 with summit tires on 2S and it’s been great. Are you saying don’t run this same mesh for 3S? I ran it once like that but not hard. Just wanted to be clear of what your experience has been
I don’t because if you run it for very long or hard, it over hears quick.
Tbone bumpers are a life saver also
Thinking of getting this car as my first rc ever, would you say it’s a good first time car? Also, to achieve the 50 mph “top speed” I need 2 batteries and the included 23 pinion? What batteries are best for performance, last a while in one run on one charge, and keep the truck going fast??
Dude! Great video, thank you so much for all the advice! One question, What's the velcro on the reciever box for?
bdzakula Battery low voltage detector that I use. I don’t like running my batteries as low as the esc lets them go
On 13:00 part of the video u talk about those ball bearings and i installed them myself instead of rubber ones, but now that plastic cover part wich secures the think dont seem to go that well on anymore it leaves a gab on that place u told afterward to put screws at to secure the flexibility of cover and i dont know how can i losen it so it would fit nicely and i could put on those screws to it :C
Well with a timestamp thing on the whole half of the video like this you don’t even need to watch the video this says what you need
