You have changed my life today and the way you phrased it to just let the thoughts be there instead of fighting to get rid of them helped turn my head back to normal, yesterday I wanted to do nothing but sleep and felt so in my head I couldn’t escape I played a video of you and fell asleep and the last thing I heard was that phrase and my head is changed I feel like I need no medicine I need nothing, thank you so much❤️🤧
I understand the concept of ignoring your thoughts as it doesn't hold meaning however recurrent violent thoughts of seeing yourself harmed is kind of difficult to ignore
You need to try not to listen to the content - it is a thought or fear of yourself being harmed not it actually happening to you. Yes your mind and body may respond as if it is happening and feel a lot of fear or pain but this will diminish the more you go towards the problem rather than trying to run away from it.
Hello am 41 years old and I have suffered with ocd and anxiety for most of my life and i am seeing a therapist at the moment well on the phone with whats going on at the minute but watching you videos has been good
Saved my life, changed my perspective, great to see there is things that we can do to mitigate our response rather than stopping it at hand, which we have no control over essentially
I usually don't comment on videos, but just yesterday I was watching your videos which have been tremendously helpful, and wished you had continued doing them, and one day after you come back,, thank you so much! It truly feels like a hopeful message from the universe :') Thank for the help!
I feel like I have genuinely reachead a point where I know the different between the thoughts and reality. BUT GOSH! There are times when the thoughts just flow and flow one after the other and it can be so crippling. I understand thats just the cacoon before I become a more stable butterfly, but It can be so so so hard. Excited for my wellness in the hopefully near future.
Exactly sometimes we tend to merge those thoughts into reality when the reality is quite the opposite and those negative intrusive thoughts that are unwanted in our head tend to grow more and more. It starts anxiety and what not. I have been feeling this same exact way from a week or so and it has been devastating but yesterday i came across this channel and these videos and it’s safe to say that it’s helping me stay normal and helping me differ between thoughts and reality.

Hi Katie, thank you so much for making videos again! Your understanding and compassion is so appreciated 💖 The isolation of 2020 has impacted many people's mental health, and these days I find my OCD symptoms are worse than ever. I struggle with motivation to begin ERP because I've suffered so many setbacks in the past. Can you please make a video about perfectionism as an obstacle to starting and sticking with treatment and how to deal with lapses/relapses. God bless 🙏
HI Devinder -sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I will add these to the growing list of videos to do. In the mean time - stick with it - every time you overcome and obstacle you are that much stronger.
Hi Darshan. Just remember your goal should not be to reduce the thoughts but to reduce the fear of the thoughts. If your goal is to reduce the thoughts themselves you will end up looking to see if they are there or not - this means you'll be paying more attention and so they will take this opportunity to get louder again!
Amazing to have you back. Your videos are really life-changing. I've now sought some professional help myself. I reached out to your team but as i assumed you're very busy haha
My problem is that I get locked on a negative thought. Like, it’s automatic. It comes and it doesn’t go. I’m stuck on it. It’s not coming and going. I can’t just observe it and let it go naturally. And 99% of the time it’s when I’m alone. When I’m not distracted with someone’s company or doing something (working), it comes. And a cycle begins. The longer I’m left with the thought, I get more and more stressed. I can’t stop it and it doesn’t just go. I have to literally go to work and disconnect from thinking all together. I can’t be alone with my own thoughts. I begin to self-destruct. And I feel exhausted both mentally and physically. I get fight of flight mode symptoms. In this case, I have to not be alone too much. A lot of these thoughts come from being easily offended. My self-confidence is minimal. I can’t handle stress too well
I'm gonna do your advice I remember someone suggesting it. I've forced myself to do exposure therapy. Now I'm gonna do nothing in regards to my compulsion and sit with the anxiety. Thank you so much!
I been dealing with suicidal intrusive thoughts and its been so hard,I will try this out and let you guys know how am I doing.WISH YOU ALL LUCK YOU CAN WIN
If any one of you is still struggling, then I can share with you how I've beaten my OCD pretty much in a week. So first of all you need to know that thoughts are something that come no matter what, we can't control whether they will appear or not, but we can stop them in their tracks. I figured this method of stopping OCD thoughts myself, so basically what you need to do is whenever you'll get triggered with impulsive thoughts, you focus your mind on an image representing both distracting thoughts and your focus - for example it can be thought of a sphere (which represents focus) surrounded by red clouds (which represents negative thoughts). Now, what you'll need to do after imagining that is thinking about going from those red clouds inside this sphere, after that, you just focus on being inside of it, no other thought should come to your head. You do that for max. 30 seconds and after that, your thoughts most likely will be a lot calmer than they were (it was like that for me, I've definitely felt a difference). So now, what exactly are we doing here? Well, I'm not a doctor or anything, but from what I could've gathered, we are doing those few thing: 1.We are breaking our thought loop by focusing on something else 2.We are training our ability to focus (which yes, is a matter of skill and practice) 3.We are weakening our reaction to OCD thoughts (because now, we have some kind of "weapon" against them - therefore them coming to our heads is not that scary anymore, because we know, that we can get rid of them) 4.We are making our thought pattern different from before - what I mean by that, is that after some time, those thoughts won't even come to our heads anymore, because they become nothing of significance (With time) Now - I know that it may sound like it's just a recipe for creating your own compulsion, not a solution, but actually it is NOT a compulsion. Compulsion is something USELESS IN NATURE that we do, because we belive that it helps us (and in some way it does) - this however, is pretty much a focus excersise, and it actually does something more than just giving us this placebo effect. Because of that, we won't stick to it after our issue is gone. Hope it will help someone with their OCD fight, because it sure helped me, pretty much completely.
Thanks so much for this.. I have OCD and helps lots. My faith (Christianity) made mine so much worse.. I was so anxious that my thoughts affected my standing with God and disqualified me from Christianity etc. I got taught about demons etc.. and was then worried about that too... Thanks for sharing.. am getting better x

Hey! Yeah I'm going good now. I have still mild symptoms but basically very little. I did a bit of ERP I think it is very effective. You can beat OCD and live a happy life. If you are struggling I hope you see light at the end of the tunnel.
Hi Katie! One of my friends desperately needs your help in overcoming an extreme level of OCD. This is really impacting his life very negatively and he is willing to consult a reliable specialist all over the world like you regardless of the effort or price involved! Please advise if you are able to provide an exception and entertain this case though you do not seem to have capacity for every request I guess. We would be very grateful to you. Thanks a ton in advance!
this video is good but its difficult to actually do it its a horrible feeling ocd is it is not just about washing Your hands all the time or having things clean its like something in Your head and it will not leave You alone and if You don't do what Your mind wants its like a horrible and uncomfortable Feeling And You cant think about anything else and when You try to not think about it it will keep coming back and get worse and worse I suffer from severe symptoms of ocd and she is right kinda to an extent Thanks making this video Katie!
Thank you for your videos! These videos are really invaluable for all of us!! I have been facing pure O (triggers ranging from anything from activities of daily life) for some time now (?8 years) and after watching your videos I've decided that whenever I have the obsessive thoughts ill acknowledge its presence but not put any meaning on it.. As a result I've not felt any anxiety after The obsessive thoughts do still come back but am able to repeat the above My understanding is trigger->obsession->imbue meaning-> anxiety-> compulsion; so I hope I'm heading the right direction? I'm worried that it's a type of compulsion that is suppressing any potential anxiety?
Sounds like by changing your appraisal of the thoughts you are able to let them do and therefore aren't feeling the same anxiety. As you said for now the thoughts will continue to come and you have to keep doing the same thing (over and Over!) BUT eventually the thoughts will come less as a result of being starved of attention and you'll learn to respond in this new way automatically so the whole thing becomes easier. Really happy to hear you are starting to benefit from trying this a new way.
Thankyou so much for this. I’ve been obsessively thinking since about august because I looked up some bad people and the thoughts started. I really don’t know if it’s me controlling them or not. But due to this I now can’t speak without stopping to think the thought before continuing to speak again and I’m not too sure what to do about that. But thankyou so much this has helped
I think my thoughts are very important now which were not important earlier. Please advise should I get exposed to the thoughts or just let them come and go. As more I get exposed, it gets more energy and increases my anxiety. And if I do nothing, I feel like why I’m not giving importance to them. I’m a little confused here. Please help.
Yup that's a common worry. This is where the risk taking comes in. Take the risk of treating the thoughts like they don't mean anything and see what happens (even though it is difficult and uncomfortable!)
I'm not sure if you or anyone else might feel like replying. But in the past 10 years or so I have countless of times fallen in love / been extremely afraid to fall in love with certain people, especially when it was very inconvenient (like housemates, or good friends, or girlfriends of a good friend) it seemed like the more I "shouldn't" have that feeling, the more I couldn't stop thinking about it, and it would feel similar to being in love cause you can't stop thinking about a person, but there was no hope or exhilaration, just extreme anxiety since I didn't even want that feeling. Could that be considered a form of OCD or rather something else? I do recognize all the techniques from the vicious flower. Any idea would be helpful, to understand myself better. Thank you
Yes. I believe that’s “Pure OCD”. I struggle with the same situation that you described but a bit different. I always feel like I shouldn’t have these thoughts & it gives me anxiety as well but I’ve gotten a bit better with just sitting there & letting them pass. They come back but I’ve been trying my best to just let them pass & also prioritize rest. When I’m restless, they seem to be worse. It’s a struggle but we have to continue to fight. Our minds are strong muscles that have to be tamed. I’m not a fan of prescription meds so I try to use natural supplements like ashwagandha which helps keeps stress levels down. Exercise, go for walks, play games, try to distract yourself at times. That sometimes works as well.
I suffer from this I just use reason - I repeat the opposite rational truthful thoughts from the lie Its annoying sometimes it takes 10 mins and then it goes away.
What a coincidence that right when I start to take my ocd seriously and watch your videos you upload after 4 years
same!!! wishing you all best on your journey❤️

You came back❤️!! I owe you my life
.
Hii Vishal , can you help me?

You're back!! Your videos have been helping me for years and I'm glad to see you've made some new ones now. I appreciate the help you provide.
Hey just wondering how you’re getting on now cheers
@@jamesjohnstone1224 Hi, I can deal with the fears and thoughts a lot better now. It goes up and down, with some good time and some a bit less. But still slowly progressing. Thanks for asking!
Thankyou for coming back mam. People like me were waiting for you from last 4 years.
It's been a few years since Ive watched your videos and just discovered you came back this year. So happy to see this new "whatever" series you're doing! You communicated how to help one's self with OCD more clearly than anyone I've ever seen.
How did you get even MORE beautiful with age??? stunning and smart.... Your videos are AMAZING. Thank you for breaking down these concepts. So helpful for users and practitioners!
You are a blessing... You are a gift to so many.
Bring 'em on, I'm ready, cant wait, thank you👍
Emma McAdam sent me here. This is amazingly clear and useful. RUclips therapist channels like Emma and yours are 10x times better than half the mental health providers out there (around the world, for eg., Asia)
wow I only just found your channel a few weeks ago... and now you make another video after 4 years !! I feel like this is a sign,, maybe I will try harder to get rid of my ocd
Hey just wondering how you’re getting on now cheers
Thank you very much for coming back. You are the best. knowing all of this information from such a professional like you along side getting to know even myself better with these videos really changed my life for better. I did not know I had OCD until recently, even though I do struggle with it for like 10 years.
Thank you very much. I am doing my best to get better, you have helped me a lot.
Really glad they are helpful. Keep up the good work and let me know if there's something in particular you'd like to learn more about and I can add it to the list.
I just found your page after a major ocd relapse (almost lost a family member to childbirth but didnt thank god!) But my ocd is back in FULL swing! Thanks so for your videos!
Katie dath you are best psychologist of our era..... Thanks for uploading videos after long time , i am from India......i couldn't recognise you , i guess because of your hair colour..... thanks again dear.....
Well I had no idea you had stopped making videos. I see you come and disappear for years at a time. I’m so glad I found them at the right time.
Thank you so much for your videos! They have given me a lot of hope that I no longer have to constantly live like this ❤️
Doing nothing to the intrusive thoughts is the best method.
Recently, I have tried Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz Four Steps for OCD
Step 1: Relabel.
Step 2: Reattribute.
Step 3: Refocus.
Step 4: Revalue.
However, it made my ocd worse.
1) Please what is your thoughts of the four steps of Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz ?
2) best book do you recommend to read ?
Thanks a lot , your videos are the best I’ve ever seen. Changed lives ❤️
Hi Katie, thank you so much for making videos again! Your understanding and compassion is so appreciated 💖
The isolation of 2020 has impacted many people's mental health, and these days I find my OCD symptoms are worse than ever.
Thanks for your reply Katie! I will persevere! Keep up the amazing work 💖
You're back!
Yaaay you’re back 🙏 love your hair by the way !
Now i am challenging myself to observe them without reacting or responding to them..hope they will gradually gets reduced
Hi Darshan. Just remember your goal should not be to reduce the thoughts but to reduce the fear of the thoughts. If your goal is to reduce the thoughts themselves you will end up looking to see if they are there or not - this means you'll be paying more attention and so they will take this opportunity to get louder again!
@@23katied Exactly..i was checking in between are they still there or not..thanks mam i recognized now how to deal with it
Katie d'Ath I think this is my issue. Thanks.. I believe I receive better therapy from the comments on here. Lol
Your video series has helped me a lot. So glad to see you again, and thanks for resuming!!!
Amazing to have you back. Your videos are really life-changing. I've now sought some professional help myself. I reached out to your team but as i assumed you're very busy haha
Katie’s BACK!! 😁😁😁
She is so pretty ! Watching her felt like my mom is helping me out
Hey thanks for coming back to this
Welcome back and thank you for sharing
She's back... and looks better than ever!
I can’t handle stress too well
You are back !!! amazing, your videos from 4 years ago have helped me a lot :)
You changed my life for the better - thank you from the buttom of my soul
I'm gonna do your advice I remember someone suggesting it. I've forced myself to do exposure therapy. Now I'm gonna do nothing in regards to my compulsion and sit with the anxiety. Thank you so much!
I been dealing with suicidal intrusive thoughts and its been so hard,I will try this out and let you guys know how am I doing.WISH YOU ALL LUCK YOU CAN WIN
I’m going through the exact same thing, it’s terrifying 😣 I know we’ll get better though💓
@@jojos-here aww babes I hope u get better you are strong and if you dont want to do it you wont do it!!! God bless
Well, I'm not a doctor or anything, but from what I could've gathered, we are doing those few thing:
1.We are breaking our thought loop by focusing on something else
2.We are training our ability to focus (which yes, is a matter of skill and practice)
3.We are weakening our reaction to OCD thoughts (because now, we have some kind of "weapon" against them - therefore them coming to our heads is not that scary anymore, because we know, that we can get rid of them)
4.We are making our thought pattern different from before - what I mean by that, is that after some time, those thoughts won't even come to our heads anymore, because they become nothing of significance (With time)
Now - I know that it may sound like it's just a recipe for creating your own compulsion, not a solution, but actually it is NOT a compulsion.
Ohh god i am glad you are back...
Please continue this work..you are giving people new lives..❤❤❤
I feel happy to see your new videos. You are so great!
Your videos are very helpful.
So happy to hear that you are getting better - great work. Thanks for sharing - I hope others can benefit from knowing that it is possible!
Thank you for being back❤️

Hey! Yeah I'm going good now. I have still mild symptoms but basically very little. I did a bit of ERP I think it is very effective. You can beat OCD and live a happy life. If you are struggling I hope you see light at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry apparently it is - I've just got a new microphone so I will try and make it better for the next uploads...
Hey just wondering how you’re getting on now, cheers
Thank you so much for your help! ❤️
As a result I've not felt any anxiety after
The obsessive thoughts do still come back but am able to repeat the above
My understanding is trigger->obsession->imbue meaning-> anxiety-> compulsion; so I hope I'm heading the right direction?
I'm worried that it's a type of compulsion that is suppressing any potential anxiety?
Sounds like by changing your appraisal of the thoughts you are able to let them do and therefore aren't feeling the same anxiety. As you said for now the thoughts will continue to come and you have to keep doing the same thing (over and Over!) BUT eventually the thoughts will come less as a result of being starved of attention and you'll learn to respond in this new way automatically so the whole thing becomes easier. Really happy to hear you are starting to benefit from trying this a new way.
💘 OCD can be treated by Buspirone/Esketamine ! Wishing all ocd sufferers getting healthiness & happiness.
Your back and you look so beautiful. Your videos helped me. Thanks
oohh wow you are making videos again
really nice
it is helpful for humanity
Thankyou so much for this. I’ve been obsessively thinking since about august because I looked up some bad people and the thoughts started. I really don’t know if it’s me controlling them or not. But due to this I now can’t speak without stopping to think the thought before continuing to speak again and I’m not too sure what to do about that. But thankyou so much this has helped
Thank You So Much :)
You have really helped me..
Your videos are a God send
I think my thoughts are very important now which were not important earlier.
Please advise should I get exposed to the thoughts or just let them come and go.
As more I get exposed, it gets more energy and increases my anxiety.
And if I do nothing, I feel like why I’m not giving importance to them.
I’m a little confused here.
Please help.
Great video, you look younger than ten years ago!
Your videos changed my life. Thank u very much -^-^-
Thank you for sharing this
Excellent video, thank you.
Thank kathie you video help me thank for your return
Hey, where were you for all this time?
The main thing is stopping me from ignoring the thoughts is.... what if i am ignoring the truth?
I suffer from this I just use reason - I repeat the opposite rational truthful thoughts from the lie
Its annoying sometimes it takes 10 mins and then it goes away.
