Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.
Designed by WED Enterprises, this 5/8-scale working Mississippi stern-wheeler opened with Disneyland in 1955. Guided along a submerged track, the Mark Twain Riverboat takes a relaxing cruise on the Rivers of America through the themed sections of Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country, and around Tom Sawyer Island. Guests are free to roam its three levels to take in different vantage points of the surrounding area and themed elements, including Mike Fink’s Cabin, the Lakota Indian Village, Big Thunder Falls, and various animals. NAPHA spotlights Disneyland for a near-recreation of elite steam-powered riverboats that once cruised through America in the 19th and early 20th centuries and brought similar attractions to three others Disney parks.
