You have been an inspiration for me to tidy up a VK Berlina that I’ve just bought, it’s completely original even down to the radio! Just want to say thanks for being a motivational force and for keeping Aussie classics alive.
Ya more than welcome Jason 👍🍺 please share our videos around on your social pages and groups mate I’d be very appreciative 🍺
I agree 100%. Mick is an insiration for sure. The VK is my favourite Commodore, with the VT running a close second. I would like to see what happens with your Berlina, cheers

@@backshed5295Please if you can help me with the different modes. On the two thousand and four model x r six.
That Ute looks like new not to mention all the work you’ve done on it. Great video, always enjoy watching you solve all the problems.
Cheers mate I appreciate ya saying🍺🍺👍
Nothing better than having no work for the day and seeing Mick's put another video up on backshed 👌🏼 legend mate.
Cheers mate ya too kind🍺🍺👍
Just a thought. Many years ago with my XF, the aircon condenser fins where pushed in (caused by insect impact over time) and restricted air flow through to the radiator. After watching this has brought back memories. Great show.
I’ll check that core mate🍺🍺👍
My XF was one of the most comfortable and relaxing cars I've ever driven. It was really nice! I still have many photo's of it during a couple years of the Adelaide Grand Prix when I contracted to supply specialist pit lighting. Good times!
🍺🍺👍
Wow I can't believe YT showed me this they day I purchased an XH for $1600. love the content

I'm stoked you didn't leave it in the paddock cause she turned out bloody awesome 🤙
Cheers mate🍺👍
Great job Mick the XF ute looks fantastic love your videos mate keep up the good work cheers mate🍻🍻👍🙂🛻
Cheers mate thanks 🍺👍
This makes me want a ute even more!
@@brown8317 thats understandable mate it was pretty cool👍🍺
Cheers mate🍺👍
Hi Mike, I like both cars. the ford ute looks like a goer. Thing with utes and wagons they have lots of space. The wagon was lockable. Cheers.
@@SimonManning-z5c 👍🍺🍺
Hi Michael, you always do a fantastic job any of the work that you do I like the videos you did on the white falcon Ute what a beautiful job you did on that well done mate. Merry Christmas to you and your great family Rob
Cheers Rob I appreciate you saying 🍺👍
That look into the camera and saying we are already having a Beer was Gold Cheers Mick.
Hahha it was late Arvo , hot and I was ready Hahhaha🍺🍺🍺👍
I reckon that's the prettiest Falcon Ute ever made, and you've done a great job bringing it back.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
Nice to see an old Falcon Ute going back on the road where it'll be owned by someone who'll care for it. Good job mate.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
@@backshed5295 I'd actually forgotten how good that generation of Ford utes looked, that looks so good with those wheels and lower stance. 👍
Sure does 🍺🍺👍
I have had these early fords do that. One that imeadiately comes to mind though had a different sort of back fire , an XB that had leaked fuel into the sump overnight and upon starting blew the sump off.
Bloody hell ! 🍺🍺👍
"Sweatin' like a blind lesbian at a fish market..." Hahahahaha! Classic, Mick! I love the XF, really well done mate. Cheers "-)
Hahaha cheers mate🍺🍺👍
I think I know what happened to that muffler. Back fire yes! Likely not from timing, not enough fuel in the exhaust to cause an explosion. With a carb and manual trans, going down the road at highway speed and your motor stalls for ignition problem, takes you a bit to realize your dropping speed, radio turned up! All that fuel is being pumped into the exhaust. I had it happen to me as a teenager in my 74 Gremlin . Pulled over, fixed my coil wire, went to start it up and BANG! I thought a shotgun went off. Got out to figure out what happened. Seen rocks blown away around the tail pipe. Looked underneath , my new muffler was swelled up😂😂😂 That's when I figured it out 😅
Amazing mate ..u don't need to go to the gym..Ur work load on these lovely ..cars ..not yestayear..but modern classics ..Ur ideas 💡 and initiative is simply amazing ...love how u improvise.
Cheers John🍺🍺👍
my father has an old ford XF panel van he drives once a week to the shops. runs like a pile of crap, cant see anything behind you, but he love it.
Hahahha 🍺🍺👍
Hi Mick, this has been great help as I have an XF ute that I am restoring too.
Watching your videos is always helpful and great viewing.
Cheers mate 🍺👍I appreciate ya watch🍺
YES! Finally. Something good to watch for tonight. RUclips was looking cactus there for a bit Mate!
Cheers mate too kind🍺🍺👍
Christ! I sold my XF S-Pack wagon in 100% original mint condition back in 1988 for AU$8,000.00. These were so shit back in the day that the extended "Ford warranty" was used to replace the following items over a mere 12 months. New transmission, new A/C compressor, new rear differential, new power brake booster assembly, new power steering pump, new complete instrument cluster, new complete carburettor assembly and new seat belts plus a few other bits and pieces. The dealer literally had the car rebuilt except the body and internal cabin components. I also got a free loan car when mine was in being refurbished so it didn't put me out at all. It would have cost them 10K+ back then for all of the parts plus labour. Everytime I received the car it just drove better and better until it felt brand new again. Then I sold it! Cheers and subscribed from SA mate.
Sounds like you got 1 that was built 10mins before beer time on a Friday mate Hahhaha. 🍺🍺👍 cheers for watching mate
Absolutely! Even the dealer principal was so apologetic but extremely helpful. That car qualified for a genuine Ford extended warranty that cost me AU$750.00 at the time. Your channel is great and I watch every episode. Fantastic memories for me mate. Have a great week.@@backshed5295
the cockatoos in the background are setting my little cockatiels off talk about long distance communication lol
Hahaha yeah my summer birds are coming back 🍺🍺👍
Awesome job Ute look's really good 👍
🍺🍺👍
I grew up around Ford's. All kinds. My old man had everything Falcon from the XW onward. Zephyrs, Anglias, Escorts, all the Cortinas.. Holdens weren't even allowed on the driveway, Chevs reluctantly. No joking. I remember him INSISTING my aunt moved her Datsun 120Y out onto the road.
He loved Falcons soooo much. The only time I saw him blanch is when we backed the XB into the tide launching our boat. Even back then we knew Falcons rusted faster than you could say "Made in Australia".
My old man's been gone five years, I'd love an XB, I've owned loads of Commodores and a few Falcons in my time. There's a BF2 Boss XR8 in my Sunday rotation garage right now. Cos I miss you dad.
When I started this post I thought I had a point. Nostalgia? Yep. I love me a classic Falcon ❤
🍺🍺👍
Great to see another Aussie classic back on the road. Your knowledge of cars is amazing. Always great to watch. Cheers Mick.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
Love ya work Mick. That bloody XF is a revelation for where it came from…….. brilliant !!! Looking forward to the next project…… have a great Christmas 🎅🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🥳
Cheers Scott thanks for coming back again 👍🍺
Lol. That WAS very negative of you Michael. You’re a funny Guy. And I love the rain too! It’s been raining here since yesterday. Heavy at times.
Hahah yep Michael can get a bit negative Hahha 🍺👍
Watching Mick set the timing by ear brings back old memories of old Fords and Chevys with bad crank dampers/balancer...lol FWIW, a vacuum gauge can also help with timing.
👍🍺🍺
having a hoist makes life so much easier
It does mate 🍺👍
Great resto Mick 😊😊. Cheers Steve.
Thanks Steve 🍺👍
Love watching these resto's because they bring back so many memories of when I was young and broke. Puting together exhaust systems out of bits and pieces or repairing them with old beer cans muffler putty.
I always did my timing by ear,
1.. I didn't have a timing light,
2.. Could never work out what I was supposed to be looking at.
3.. Even when I could afford to pay someone to do the timing for me I couldn't help my self I ha to re-do it.
Hahah cheers mate yeah it’s handy to be able to do it that way hope it helps someone🍺🍺👍
Awesome effort on the Ute. You deserve to have a beer. Keep ‘em coming (that’s vehicle restorations)
🍺🍺👍will do mate
Nice.with some hard work, determination and commitment you have something that has evolved into a very nice motor vehicle .
Thanks mate 🍺🍺👍
Hey mate, I like to use side cutters to grab the split pin at the nut and leaver it out. Hope that makes sense👍
Yeah I follow ya 🍺🍺👍
Been cleaning up my 1987 xf sedan with the old man. i bought it a couple of months back. And seeing this video has me chuffed that i bought one and brings back memories since i was a young. (Me being born in 02) 😂
Grouse video
Thanks mate🍺🍺👍
Love these utes. The front nose treatment is unique. Remember I'm sitting over here in the middle of the United States. We just do not see these very often in real life.
Cheers for watching mate🍺🍺👍
Welcome back everyone, the XF is on the road! Please visit Backshed.net.au for your gear these still time before xmas , chat to ya’s soon in the comments🍺👍
Yep, Bloody awesome! Took me a few days to get to this video but well worth it. Great job man, brings back many good memories of times past & present. Cheers.
Cheers for taking the time to watch mate🍺🍺👍
Love ya work Michael. It’s kinda like hanging out with a mate while he’s fixing his car. Beer o’clock mate, cheers👍🍻
"sweatin like a blind lesbian at a fish market" I'm stealing that one
Hahhaha yeah i cant remember where i got that one but love it 🍺🍺👍
I'm looking for an XG or H Panelvan to put a Barra into and eventually turbo.. It would be so funny to have what looks like some ocker's crusty daily thrasher that looks like it is held together with cable ties and bailing wire and barely runs - that will all of a sudden lay waste to any traffic light warrior! 😆Especially if I leave it looking total sleeper with just widened steelies and leave the towbar on etc, put B&S ball and Ute Muster stickers on the back for good measure
Ratty sleeper style 🍺🍺👍
And another one saved.
Luv it 🙂
Cheers mate 🍺🍺👍
These videos are so satisfying, keep em coming 🍻
Will do mate
Please share them around with your car mates and social pages🍺🍺👍
On pre O2 Sensor vehicles, it is possible to cut in just in front of the Converter. Bash out the Ceramic inside with a bar & hammer. Then weld the system back together like nothing ever happened. (Noticeable difference in power without that massive restriction right after the Exhaust Manifold.).
👍🍺
another great vid mate really impressed how the ol girl tidied up
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
I am more of a GM fan than Ford but that is a good-looking ute, you did a good job on it mate. I learn so many things from you. Keep up the good work, cheers from Sri Lanka
Cheers mate thanks for watching👍🍺
Mate! That looks awesome, and appreciated the fish market 😂
Hahaha it was hot hahah 🍺🍺🍺👍
Really nice tidy xf fella.
Cheers mate 🍺🍺👍
What a satisfying result for you Mick. It makes you remember just how iconic these cars are. Great job.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
I reckon the young fella could see himself driving this, Michael
Hahahah he definitely does 🍺🍺👍
Good job. You explanation on timing is 100% right and that’s the way I do it as well. I also use the starter as a guide. If it kicks back when you try and start it it, back it off a touch. If I have one minor criticism on the whole process, is the spare wheel cover is sticking out like dogs balls….. you could remove it and belt it out a bit😁👍
It’s double skinned mate so I can’t bash it but I’m looking for another 🍺🍺👍
I think that dash needed another coat of Armorall, soooo shiney.
I forgot to put the dash mat back in !! Hahahah 🍺🍺👍
Hi Mick, Really enjoy your mechanical content, but love your dry sense of humour even more..! Very skilled tradesman. Keep it up, (less Fords, more Holdens...). Thank you.
Hahaha cheers mate
Couple of holdens coming soon .
Did you watch the commodore videos ? The was 3 Holden videos in a row 🍺👍
Another Great Resto Mick. I can't stop laughing about your comment " I'm sweating like a Blind Lesbian in a Fish Market". Can't say I have heard that one before. You are as Aussie as they come Mate. Keep them vids rolling....
Hahah cheers mate heap more coming👍🍺
Love the xf did my apprenticeship on those At coffee ford in Dandenong vic. 👍👍👍
🍺🍺👍
Great video on the XF Ute. It sure looks good. Take care...😊
Cheers George thanks for watching mate🍺🍺👍
Mate, when you hit ball joints, you aim for the thinnest part of the tapered joint, so NOT at the back of the arm like you did. The theory is to 'spread' the taper that the ball joint fits into. Love all your vids!
I hit the arm down mate not in , you do it your way it’s done 🍺🍺👍
@@backshed5295 been doing it my way for ..fark..51 years since I started my Diesel mech apprenticeship and I didn't know this till now?
Exellent content . XG put in shed for rebuild . Cheers . Them seats and interior are mint
Cheers mate thanks 🍺🍺👍
Take it back
These wheels look gooood lol
🍺🍺👍
With the seats, I did a similar thing with my Vt commodore I’m restoring, however I took the actual fabric covers off and put them in the washing machine as I was worried about soaking the foams underneath and risking them getting mouldy. Although pressure washing them seemed to clean them up like brand new in your case. Love your work 🍺
Cheers mate , yeah a couple of 40+ degree days sorted them out Hahhaha🍺👍
Thanks Michael. I was in the middle of a mouthful of food when you said “ I’m sweating like a blind lesbian at a fish market “ 😂 food every where.!!! Never laughed so much. 😂😂😂😂😂
Cheers mate , I can’t take the credit for that one but I do love it .🍺🍺👍
Turned out real nice 💯👍 another great vid
Cheers mate 🍺🍺👍
Hey mate dunno if anyone in the comments has suggested but you can use a vacuum gauge to help set your timing as well.
Your pretty much on the money with what your doing anyway but once your base idle is set then you can use your vac guage to find the money spot for timing
Plenty of google help or RUclips’s if you want to look it up. If you know anyway all good just throwing out the option for anyone reading 🤙
Anywhere in the low to mid teens on inches of vacuum is good
👍🍺
Excellent job. The Ford Ute looks great.
Cheers mate 🍺🍺👍
Nice xf Ute mick love the rims
Thanks Garry 🍺🍺👍
Great job, great video as usual mate, well done.
Cheers mate🍺🍺🍺👍
Yeah more videos on the commodore sounds right. I was going to ask are there more comming as I couls see in the background it was up on stands. Drain tray under diff airea. Pinion seal? Im guessing. 🤔 thanks for posting your video's. Cheers Stew.
Cheers for watching stew , bit more serious than a seal 🍺🍺👍
Hey Mick the ute is smick, on the revs coming down slowly, this was a early 90,s pollution fix. Had the same on my brand new VH comodore . bloody annoying in a manual, from memory was a a damper under the accelerator lever, removed it and was a happy camper, stuff the emissions lol
Hahaha yeah I don’t speak emissions 🍺🍺👍
Nice work ,came up gd too
Cheers mate 🍺🍺👍
What a beauty, had one of these way back, great old bus, never let me down, terrific video, thanks so much 👏👏
Your most welcome mate thanks for watching 🍺🍺👍

Hey,
I've just stumbled across your channel. Looks like I'll be stickn around.
You know I traded my old 1990 XF panelvan/x cop car in a new Ford ute 18yrs ago, I got $200. I'd driven that car around the clock twice and still on the original transmission. Your Ute's coming up a treat.
✌️ Peace from Melbourne/Pakenham.
Cheers mate and welcome 🍺🍺👍
You got a good run on that xf, was it auto or manual?
5 speed mate 🍺🍺👍

Auto
Great video, it is crazy how many of these Falcons get parked up because of the most minor reasons!
Just goes to show they just keep going and going!
Great video.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
That gear shifter is not the strongest of things. I broke one and was kinda stranded until I used my vice grips or some such..............got the rig back to my bro's place, gota shifter out of the tool box, got the grinder out and made a slot...................now I have a shifter for a shifter! No bulldust.
Hahaha nice , it ain’t gotta be pretty 🍺🍺👍

That thing came up like mint, amazing knowledge you have on cars. speaking on that would you consider a how to on stone chips in car hoods, I dont own a spray gun and i do not want to fill with bog, with matching paint how do you fill and sand to look like new.
Bloody awesome mate
🍺👍
If you still have over heating issues and the radiators is clean check the head gasket. They blow next to the head bolt that has the earth cable bolted to it. I did heaps in the 80s and 90s.
