It's called bracket racing, look it up. They try to hit a specific time. I'm not a fan of it though.

@@timothycc711 because in bracket racing you set a time for yourself (like 9.00 seconds) if you beat that time you lose or break out just as if you red light! In bracket racing you have to end up beating your competitors to the end of the quarter mile. My guess is his car was faster than the Time he dialed in. This means after he has passed the guy next to him he can brake and make sure he doesn't beat his set or dialed in time. Also cutting a great reaction time helps in bracket racing also. It's hard to explain without be writing a book but hope that helps.

No problem. I wish there was an easier way to explain it. The point of bracket racing is a slower car can win, for example one car Dials in 9.20 the other a 10.20 the slower car gets to leave a second earlier than the 9.20! This is where the reaction time plays a huge part, lets say the 9.20 car has a reaction time half a second faster than the 10.20 car. The 9.20 car has now made up a half second. The point im trying to make is even though your reaction time has no effect on your quarter mile time you can win on a great reaction time and getting as close to your dialed in time without breaking it. In short yes there is alot of strategy and skill involved in bracket racing. It's not just about having the fastest car.
