    This is my first looping device in about 15 years, as I once owned one of the dual pedal Jam Man loopers. I used it mainly for teaching, but I did actually use it live to do the harmony outro solo on Hotel California. I'm pretty sure I could recreate Hotel California with the RC 600...lol
    This video is extremely helpful - you obviously know what you're doing, and even though I'm well familiar with Boss's menu systems, there is a lot to take in and the learning curve is pretty steep. I just picked up my RC 600 two days ago, and I got reasonably familiar with it, after integrating it into my pedal board.

    You can set it up so that pressing play will only kick in at the end of the currently playing loop. This takes the pressure off getting the timing right. It does mean that if you want to start a loop immediately, you need to stop what's playing first, so you might want to leave this setting until you've recorded your loops, and you just want to play them in sequence and not worry about missing a cue.

  • @noggin6459

    Thanks for the clear explanation. I've learned a lot. I've been torn between the simplicity of just singing with an acoustic guitar or using backing tracks. I've been using the RC 600 just to record a verse to solo over but not building a full track. The only thing I keep in each memory slot is a rhythm for each song I do. You've inspired me to build simple backing tracks for some songs and save them to memory slots as you do. I can see the attraction of live looping but I think your way is another great way to use the 600.

    Hello, congratulations, I was delighted to see this pedal more as a tool for composing than for looping in the strict sense.
    Of course, the way you play always counts a lot and yours is very professional, but I really liked the sound you get from the effects, and your sound in general.
    Are they all internal effects?
    Does the sound go directly from the Direct Out of the Rc 600 to your sound card, or do you take the signal from the guitar to a miked amplifier?
    Could you tell me how the reverb effect sounds for the vocals?
    In other videos I've seen it a bit poor, I don't know if it's because they don't know how to use it, thanks.

    • @LRCDetroit
      @LRCDetroit  2 года назад

      Hi Emilio-thank you for the compliment and observation. In this video I went direct into the rc600, though I did use a Joyo American pedal, and a Keeley Hooke Reverb...that's where the tremolo came from. From there, the rc600 goes to my interface (presonus 16r). I am just finishing my next video which goes through the guitar oriented FX, and I will say that I can get close to the tone in this video with the built in FX...they are pretty good if you adjust to taste. In the next video, the guitar went direct into the looper, no pedals beforehand.
      My wife Laura is a singer, so I've been planning to record a video of her singing direct in. I'll make sure we do a thorough demo of the reverb. I would say it's good sounding but not very versatile. Like the other fx, it needs to be adjusted to taste and the range/tone is limited. Pairing the reverb with the compression, eq I imagine can get some pretty interesting sounds! The Master out has a reverb which sounds better than the input/track fx reverb, very natural and subtle for live use. Lastly...I am interested in using the various outputs to run out to a guitar amp, I bet it will work great...the fx are good enough to replace various pedals on a gig! I'll try to address all these topics in my upcoming videos.

      Everything is clear to me and I am not going to miss any of your next videos, because I can assure you that the sound you get is spectacular.
      I always knew that the most gifted musicians who also like sound editing are capable of catching the biggest trout with a bit of Grandma's sewing thread.
      The voice thing with your wife interests me a lot. It is true on one hand that voice is very special thing, because few people have an interesting one, even if they have a great range, but it is also that everything that is out there in examples with this pedal is a bit sad, in a way I'm already seeing how yours will shine in comparison.
      Needless to say that your future video recording through the amp interests me a lot, I always saw in this pedal a great possibility in that sense thanks to the two XLR inputs it has.

      Hi there and thank you! I don’t believe you can use the RC600 like a traditional interface. It appears (according to the manual) that it functions similar to a hard drive via usb. Meaning you can back up or restore data, or edit midi and audio using the Boss Tone Studio software. I will investigate it though, thanks again.

    • @gooserayos
      @gooserayos Год назад

      Not sure if you still need this answered, but YES, the RC600 works as an interface, with 3 stereo outs and a headphone jack. It's a super capable machine, and paired with Midi controllers, drums pads, studio monitors, etc it's a nice all in one solution. If you don't have an interface and want to save money, try using the RC600 as an interface first and see if it works for you.

    appreciate your content. I'm struggling with this and can't find away around it unfortunately. I'm in mode 1. I want bank 1 to be receiving my drums from an external source. I want to be able to play that at a short loop say of 4 beats. I want that to be the bpm of the track so I set that first and it saves me looping drums for say 4 x 4 beats.
    I then want to go in to bank 2 and set a loop length say of 12 bars.
    now this is where it gets tricky and can't figure it out. say I've recorded guitar rhythm in bank two and now want to add other parts like harmonies or bass parts on the guitar. I want to add that to bank 3.
    for some reason they won't quantize together and the loop seems off. I know there's a global quantize but is there a way to set it so that when I set drums for 4 bars that banks two and three can be played longer but be quantized together?
    you can do this on the rc300 just by putting bank 1 in free mode and other two banks in auto mode.
    I bought this pedals for sound quality improvements, more inputs and outputs but it doesn't seem to do the one thing I want it to. I'll have to take it back otherwise.

      Hi Robert-I found it slightly frustrating to sync things but my process is simple...I record with LOOP SYNC ON, then when moving to my next loop, turn LOOP SYNC OFF. I repeat this process and it seems to work. Also I make sure my loop start is set to MEASURE, and record is set to QUANTIZE.
      So, before recording set Track 1 to LOOP SYNC ON, single mode, quantize on, and loop start to MEASURE. It will automatically be in "FREE" to record however many bars you wish. When I am done, I turn LOOP SYNC OFF on Track 1. Now when recording Track 2, I repeat the same process...LOOP SYNC ON, double check my loop start as MEASURE, QUANTIZE on (it seems to remember these settings) and record my next loop. It will again record to ANY LENGTH and if I turn LOOP SYNC OFF it will fire off in time. I believe you can set it to MULTI as well so that it plays along with a single mode loop.
      I'll also add, I always record with RHYTHM ON so loops are "in sync" with the internal click on the 600. If the rhythm is on and playing, loops sync perfectly for me. You can easily turn the rhythm down in the mixer and just hear your own drum tracks that way too. Notice how the tempo lights up in time with the loops on button 9 when in sync. I sure hope this helps somehow! Thanks.

    Thanks for making video. I dig your laid back style. So I have a dumb question. I want to get into looping and been playing guitar 40 plus years. I thought the cool part of loopers was using basic instruments and a Mic to lay down the rhythm section. Seems more organic and I have seen seen hundreds of amazing videos of people laying down the dopest backing rhythms with most basic percussive instruments or even just clapping their hands into the mic. Do you feel having prerecorded rhythms makes the looping process a tad sterile and not as cool and creative making your own rhythms? I am ready to purchase my first looper and quite honestly there are so many choices it's overwhelming and as far as I know this is the only unit with 6 tracks. I also know guitarists like the new 505 MK2 even though it's a desktop unit which is a tad weird. What unit would you recommend ? Thanks brotherman✌

    • @LRCDetroit
      @LRCDetroit  Год назад

      Hi Bob-thanks for the note here. That’s an interesting question! I think it might possibly be more engaging for a listener live to see someone clap, make mouth sounds or use live percussion to create the loop in real time. Also, I think we can mostly agree that it’s just out right FUN to do that 😀 ! The RC600 makes it very easy to do that. I use the built in sounds/rhythms to CREATE my own track to playback live at a gig when needed. There are a plethora of drum kits and rhythms to keep it interesting. I also build each track to have a chord outline, sometimes bass lines too. I then play over that track live which is great for soloing, playing other parts/voicings etc. For me, that was the main reason I wanted the 6 tracks…to outline entire songs. It’s a highly recommended piece of gear…especially to RECALL prerecorded tracks. Though as stated, you can of course do it LIVE too. The choice is yours! That adds tremendous value in my world ✌️

      No I’ve never experienced that. I’m very careful with volume going into the loop though. I’m sure it will get muddy if you try to jam too many frequencies into one loop…like the low end of an acoustic guitar covering up the kick drum or bass. I usually have drum, guitar and bass and lower the volume right on my bass or guitar going in…self mixing. I’ve ruined many loops having an instrument too loud 😂

      Hi Rigo- that sounds really easy. You can program the switches with an ASSIGN to change drum beats on different loops. If you have FILL engaged on your rhythm track it will play a fill at the end or beginning of a loop. The simple eighth note floor tom/snare fill in the GNR song is definitely already in the machine. It's a standard drum fill. Good luck! Making the loop/tracks is straightforward if you know the arrangement of the song.

    How would you incorporate the Quad Cortex into this RC-600?

    • @LRCDetroit
      @LRCDetroit  Год назад

      Had to google Quad Cortex 😀 Looks to me like you have various I/o on the Quad. First, do not use the Boss effects as they probably will not be on par with Quad. Second, set up the Boss in a effect loop from the Quad so you can go in and out of the RC600 when needed. The RC is flexible with I/o too so you can have two instruments/line and two mic inputs all running separately or linked. That’s a powerful setup!

    HELP PLEASE. I’m new to multi track loopers. I’ve had boss single looper for years. Pretty sure it’s rc 5. Trying to set track- Measures to free but that’s not an option. It goes from 2-13. What’s up with that? I don’t know if it was like this before I updated from 1.04 to ver 1.12 …
    Any idea what’s going on?
    Thank you for your videos as there’s not enough videos on RUclips showing the advanced settings in this pedal. I’m going to set it to 4 for now and try to keep learning how to use all the features I didn’t have with my standard looper.

      @LRCDetroit  2 года назад +1

      Hi Wayne-the first loop must be empty/blank to set it to free. The RC600 automatically follows loop length as you record. If the loop is empty (blue light) you should be able to adjust to FREE. Hope that helps.

      @@LRCDetroit thanks for the reply. I will try this. I love this looper. It’s not perfect but it’s really close. My next dig into the 600 is effects as I want to integrate this into my live shows. Have a great day play music.

      @@LRCDetroit Yeah, I'm considering getting one now that the new update is out. I use an Electro Harmonix 95000, which is great, except that it doesn't do variable loop lengths per track. The Singular Sound Aeros is also tempting. Trying to decide between that and the Boss.

      @@tonydrake821 yes, the built in drums sealed it for me because there’s electronic type kits like 808and pretty decent patterns to build with. It’s a very versatile instrument seemingly good for any style…free improv, avant-garde, arrangements whatever. Half speed, reverse, multi lengths all easy to select. You can really go bonkers with it 😂 The sound is pristine as well.

      @@LRCDetroit it wasn‘t intended to be a „snide comment“. From musician to another it should be seen more as a motivational boost to do a wee bit more research before producing such a long vid, that results in a lot of wasted time for many viewers and followers. The amount of useful information you present could easily be boiled down to 5 minutes, leaving more time for the support by your (by the way excellent) guitar and bass playing.
      The tips for the RC-600 aren‘t really elaborated enough to be passed on. You’d have a tough time having to re-program what you suggest after recording just one song - when there are much simpler and not that time consuming solutions. ✌️

    Well, I washed your video fell asleep a couple times woke back up and made me a cheese and burrito sandwich got back into the groove of watching your video. If you’re gonna make a video make sure you play correctly. It’s annoying you went through too much mumbo-jumbo to lay down a song, when you have the drum track going, you have your effect pedal ready to go you push play start and then hit the expression pedal and record your riff. Push the expression pedal off go to track number two. Make sure you do a two or three or four bar count into the song, once you get to the last count, you push the expression pedal again on the left side for track two and lay down the second riff base or keyboard so on and so on by going through the menu and going to Quan times and this and that you’re confusing people why do you have to confuse people with the machine, a simple video on a simple song over a read all of the post congratulate you and patting you on the back I have four Bosch RC 400 and series and your video makes it very complicated for a newbie to try to figure out how to use it. I think maybe I gotta go back in and make a new video and correctly play your guitar and your baseline and your keyboards and so on and so on, two minutes 38 seconds long song I would dig it more but anyway you have a good day
