Many thanks for your support, consider subscribing to the channel. There's plenty more content to come!
When he said "low and higher harmony" I really felt that
Thanks for all your tutorials! It’s been a great help! Cheers!
You're very welcome!
Of course with what it costs they could insert a chord recognition!
Better than I expected!
Cheers, Bruce!
Thanks for the demo 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You're most welcome. Hope you're getting something out of the content!
This was very helpful, thanks!
You're welcome!
So much easier just using a voice live device into the 600
YES and you can adjust the type of voice (tied, just, natural...) and it recognizes the guitar chords.
Thanks!
Great stuff Ross thanks you saved me hours of frustration. I was considering going back to the 500, but now I get it! Still some features missing in the harmony bits from the VC-500 but will try adding extra RC octaves on top of the VC. :)
You're very welcome, Ant, and thank you so much for your contribution. it's greatly appreciated. I hope you get some use out of some of the other videos as well, and feel free to ask away if you need any help with things. Cheers, Ross
Ooooooooo ooooooo octaaave abooove... Love it!
Awesome 👌 Cheers, Matt

Great series on this device, I have the RC 300 doing some research into possibly upgrading. Very helpful.
ooooooooooo ooooooooooo. hiiiiigggghhhhh haarmoneey. :)
...to stay in the loop...zing!
Thanks for the videos! They've helped make sense of this pedal. I still have a couple questions about the harmonizer effect. In the Auto Mode - it's clear a MIDI signal isn't required, it's basing it off your voice. How does Midi come in to play? Also what exactly does key do in either mode? Does it 'snap' the harmony to a note in that key if you are slightly off?
I'm glad they've helped! You're exactly right. When selecting a key, the pitch of the harmony will 'snap' to the closest pitch within that particular key, allowing you to lock the notes available when adding harmony. I believe Midi can be sent via chords when using the Auto Harmony FX, although I haven't actually tested that out myself. Hope this helps. Ross
Thanks Ross, great videos and very useful. Do you have a video on now to use guitar and harmony effects at the same time or in the same song? Thanks. I’m really struggling to figure out how to do it. Thanks!!
Thanks, Michael. Glad to hear you're finding the videos useful. I'm sure there will be something in there about inserting FX to the correct input, which will allow you to achieve this. However, remember you can only use 4 FX at the same time, so it wouldn't be possible to have 3 FX on for your guitar and another 2 FX for vocals etc. I tend to use my guitar FX externally and only use input FX for my vocals and cajon these days. Hope this helps!
@@RossGallagherMusic
Perfect, thank you. I was suspecting that I would need either an external harmony pedal or seperate guitar effects. Thanks and keep the content coming!!
Hi awesome videos!! Quick question, I saw your videos on connecting OnSong with midi, you also send the the key of the song on OnSong to fx when you change form on song to the other? The reason of sending the key is that sometime I have to change the key of the song I’m singing.
It's not something I have experience with and don't use OnSong anymore, unfortunately. It would be great if it is possible though.
My plan was to get rid of my tc helicon play acoustic but it seems like ill basicly have to have a bunch of different memories, each memory with a perticular key set for the harmonies. and it will also use one of my 4 effects. might have to use both the tc helicon play acoustic and the rc-600. i was hoping this could be my all in one pedal for acoustic guitar and singing with some looping.
You are exactly right, I was thinking the same and will do the same as well hehe. Regards.
Hey Ross thanks for all the informative videos! I just picked up an RC600 and I have several questions but the first one is, When I turn on effects, I don’t hear the effect until after I’ve recorded the loop and it’s playing back. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I would like to be able to use the effect without always recording a loop first. Like on this video, your singing with all these harmonies but I would have to turn the effect on, and record something before I could hear the harmonies added.
Hey Cody, just to check - are you sure you're definitely applying Input FX and not Track FX? If you're only hearing the effect after it's been recorded, this is likely to be a Track effect. Input FX should be heard as you're playing live as well as being recorded to the track, if that makes sense? Ross
This chap has probably sold boss hundreds of these. Let’s say 100 people have bought one because of this man’s work…… at £400 a pop he’s made boss £40,000. Boss…..Give this man a commission!!!!!
You're very kind. I would certainly welcome a cheque from BOSS, should they want to send one out 🤣
I am quite new to this kinds of things. I appreciate if you could answer my questions. Is it possible to apply vocal effect like here in Boss gt 1? Or vice versa can I get guitar effects in rc600 likrle in Boss gt-1? Thx for advance
I don't own a BOSS GT-1, but I believe you can only access guitar FX within it and not vocal FX. You would be able to achieve similar amp simulation within the RC-600, but I think you would probably have more options in the GT-1.
This might be a dumb question but you said you can only do it with midi but you are using a mic. What are you using to convert audio to midi?
I'm just demonstrating how the harmony INPUT FX can be applied to your voice using the microphone, but you could achieve the same effect using an instrument, like a MIDI keyboard. You would still need to use audio/sounds from a seperate device and run this into the Instrument input on the RC-600 in order to be able to use the INPUT FX.
Thanks for this demo, all the harmonies sound great. But I'm a bit confused on how to set up my mic. Are you using a "live" mic, which doesn't get recorded to your loops, or a mic which is recorded to the loops? At the moment, I have two mics. One is going through my TC Helicon, and my voice gets harmonized according to the guitar chords I play - the guitar also goes through the TC Helicon. Then the guitar output of the TC Helicon goes into my guitar pedals, and into the RC 600, while the mic output goes straight to my amp/speaker. I have a second mic which plugs directly into the RC 600 - so this one gets recorded onto loops.
So, how do I get the RC600 to produce all these harmonies when I'm singing live, without recording them to the other loops I'm playing or dubbing on guitar? Is that possible? The TC Helicon harmonies are OK, but I'd like to try these RC600 effects as sometimes the chords I play on guitar make the TC Helicon confused and the harmonies sound awful. With the RC 600 I think being able to program them to my voice might be more accurate. Thanks.
You can select what instruments go to which tracks on the Rc600
Also, to answer part of your question, you can have other loops playing, and the harmonies switched “on” to your live mic, but they won’t actually get added to the loop unless you press “record”…
I think I’m correct and hope that answers your question
Hi Bobbi, as mentioned in the comments, you can select which instruments are being recorded to each track. So if you are recording your guitar parts on Track 1 and singing live with the harmony FX, you can disable the Mic inputs so that they don't get recorded to the track. Another workaround if you did want to record the vocals to the same track at some point in the performance, is to use and A/B pedal and have that running into both mic inputs. Then just send one of those to the track and select that one when recording, using the other one for the live performance. Hope this all makes sense? Ross
@@RossGallagherMusic Thank you Ross. I haven't looked into selecting which instruments are sent to each track yet, so that is an adventure I will have to tackle. It's such a complicated, powerful machine that I really have to learn how it works, and appreciate your tutorials.
Thanks for your great videos.
So if the harmony is not connected to guitar chords then how do you get harmony on your live vocals. Does it have to be pre programmed and how does midi control harmony. Sorry for dumb questions. Thomas
No problem at all. The harmony FX work in a couple of different ways; manual, where you predetermine they key (personally, I set this for each memory) and auto; which works off midi note messages received by the device. So basically, if you were to play a keyboard, the diatonic harmony would change, depending on the chord you are playing. Unfortunately, the RC doesn't work when strumming guitar chords. Hope this helps. Ross
@@RossGallagherMusic so bad! strumming guitar chords is fundamentaly! Voice live 2 TC - Helicon does, and the pedal is more than 13 years old.
Very informative I would like to ask how can I loop my voice to a specific track?
You can route your instruments to whichever tracks you like. So if you check out my other video here, you should see how to route your mic to a specific track...
ruclips.net/video/x_J7bf6jCjc/видео.html
@@RossGallagherMusic what I mean is I want to loop only my vocals on a certain pedal even if I play the guitar and sing at the same time it only records my voice
Absolutely. If you go to your track settings for whichever track you wish to disable your guitar on, you can page all the way across and turn off any instrument you don't want recording to that track. That way, if you're playing guitar and singing at the same time, only your guitar will be recorded if you turn off INST and leave MIC on. Just be mindful that some guitar sound will still probably bleed through into your mic, though. The last part of this video should help you out...

I would like to know this answer also ?
Is there any command in ctr fnc or assigns in Rc 600 to activate certain input bank on a push of a pedal? I could not find one. If there was such command life would have been not so disfunctional. I could just assign the corresponding "activate input fx bank x" command to the play track pedal and the pedal would play the track and activate corresponding input fx bank at the same time. There are only input bank on/off, and inc/dec commands. They dont help. Do you know anything about coding the system for these pedals. Is making a command to activate certain input fx bank on press of a pedal so difficult?
Hello Ross. New Big fan here. I tried to switch on auto and he can't recognize to my guitar chords. So I did I turned to hybrid but I want auto. Please help me?
And lastly, I want to control my harmony on one pedal only on AB switch. I saw your video about that one but you use mode 3. Is it possible just directly 4 FX to FS 6 only?I mean I don't use and pedal on RC 600? Thanks man. You're the best.
Did you get the harmony for your guitar sorted in the end? You could assign multiple FX to each external pedal. For example, I have my FS-7 turn on/off all 4 harmonies on one of my songs. Hope this helps. Ross
@@RossGallagherMusic I did that one already. But I don't know. The auto correct of the harmonics cannot detect guitar chords.. huhuhu
Hi Ross, do you think Ve-500's Harmonies are better than RC?
Great question! There's certainly a lot more that the VE-500 offers, and if it was in my budget, I'd certainly be using it for my go to vocal FX. But that said, the RC-600 has all I really need and works quite well with my current set up, In terms of harmonies, from what I have heard, the VE-500 do tend to track better than the RC. Hope this helps. Ross
I might’ve missed this on this video, but I was wondering if you can do not only two part harmonies but three or four part harmonies on this?
Thanks Jeff
Its possible to apply up to 4 input FX at any one time, so you could have 4 different harmonies if you wanted to. Hope this helps!
@@RossGallagherMusic thanks for the reply! That helps
Hi Ross. I'm a new subscriber here. I tried doing the vocal harmony effects on rc600. However, it also affects the guitar harmony too. Is there a way that I can only the harmony for vocals only and the guitar sound still remains? If so, please teach me. Appreciate it a lot. I'm new to rc600 but been using rc30 for a while now. Thanks
Excellent, and thanks for subscribing! When you're in the harmony FX, if you page left, you will be able to target where those FX are applied. So just make sure it's only your mic that's selected for the vocal harmonies. Hope this helps. Ross
hello.. i have a question... if i assign each track to a different output, how can i record the same instrument on a different track?
Unfortunately, once you have recorded onto a track, you cannot split the recorded sounds from that track to a specific output. Basically, this means that if you are routing instruments to individual outputs, you will need to allocate a track for that specific instrument. For example, I use tracks 1 and 3 for my guitar which are routed to my guitar amp from sub output 1, tracks 3 and 4 for my vocals/shaker which are routed from the main outputs and into the mixing desk, track 5 for bass which is also routed to the guitar amp via sub output 1, then track 6 for my pickup cajon which is routed from sub output 2 to its own channel on the desk. Hope this helps and all makes sense. Ross
does this looper have other voice fx like reverb hall , radio, etc
yes, you can apply all the effects available to your vocals
Why does the effect go on both my guitar and vocals? Can i seperate them?
You can certainly send FX to different Mic's or Instruments. This video should hopefully help you out...ruclips.net/video/zV5y-aBkBUw/видео.html
Do I understand correctly that there isn’t any basic vocal reverbs on this unit or rc 500 ?
There are 3 different types of reverb within the Input FX: Reverb, Gate Reverb and Reverse Reverb. The standard Reverb is probably most suitable for vocals and there are a few different parameters within the effect for you to customise according to what overall sound you want to achieve.
@@RossGallagherMusic so no then ??
What are you, an idiot? He just told you there is.
@@QuickSticks8771 yes, the rc600 reverb works great on vocals, and you can also tweak it to your taste.
Just got the RC 600. If a harmony comes in halfway through the song, when do i start record?
I tend to record my harmonies at the start of the song, before the first verse, and then bring in those harmonies later in the song. I've recently uploaded a demonstration of how I perform Shape of You, which does just that. Hope this helps. Ross
thanks, im only hearing fx on playback. I pushed too many buttons i suspect
Are you definitely using Input FX and not Track FX?
Yep
Do u have direct contact with boss' development team? Or do u know where i could submit a request for future modifications to their firmware?
I'm a percussionist, and it would've helped me greatly if i could've used switches switches to raise the tempo and volume by a certain interval.
The expression Pedal is not a good solution since it's way too sensitive and frankly, it's just not comfortable. A switch which would raise or lower the tempo by my selected interval(i think 3 bpm a press) would've made the rc600 a dream come true.
same thing with volume(for current track or main volume) would be amazing as well.
I did try expression pedals... seriously not comfortable at all.
Thanks🙏🙏
Unfortunately, I don't have any direct contact with BOSS, so I'm unable to help. I did notice someone had posted a prototype they had created that demonstrates what you're trying to achieve regarding incremental changes to the tempo using an external midi controller, though. Take a look at the RC-600 Facebook group and search tempo prototype, which should help you find out what they've managed to do. Hope this helps.
@@RossGallagherMusic thanks🙏🙏
Why is there no 7th?
Good question. Definitely one for BOSS to answer though I'm afraid.
"Stay in the loop" Really??
Absolutely!
Why can’t you explain what are you doing?? You talk about things without explaining what you mean!!! What is harmony good for?? Why aren’t you showing examples during your explanations??
Thank you for your comment. This video was made to demonstrate the range if Harmony FX within the unit. It you want further explanations, please check out some of my other videos. Hope they help. Ross
