Really appreciate the videos certainly helping me understand aspects of joinery work on a building site. Could you help me with some tips for starting out working on a UK building site. I've never worked on a site before and I'm not sure if any of the sites will take on an unexperienced site joiner. I've been doing property maintenance/private home joinery etc, I am CSCS carded etc but have zero experience for site work but I'd like to give it a try. Would you approach the site and explain you're qualified but an improver for site joinery? Having to do a stair or full stud out when you've never done any on this scale would be a serious challenge for a first timer (not done those since college!)! I'm about to loose my current job and I've never done that kind of this before. Speed and the lack of experience are my biggest worries. Would you get thrown off site if you're not fast enough or knowledgeable enough of how to do exactly what you're doing with the stairs etc. Sorry to be a pain but any info would be of great use and a great insight for new starter on a UK site. Thank you in advance. Hope you keep doing the video's they are really helpful.
Hi pal! It’s never to late to start for sure (I know a couple of older people that have started and love it now) but you may just have to take a hit in your income for a few years till like you say you gain speed and experience. You’d have to find a joinery company who sub contracted to new build sites and explain your situation but I’m sure it would be fine if you were just upfront. And they would hopefully just put you with someone for a few years until you found your feet then you’d maybe go on your own but still be on a day rate so wouldn’t need to worry about your speed. But aslong as you’ve got a good attitude you’d be fine I think. Site work isn’t that hard most of the time just a lot of repetition so that’s where you’d gain your speed, when you know exactly how things are done etc. lots of tips for gaining speed but you’ll pick things up from people, being organised is a massive thing I think. @@stevegreen7436I'd use water based D4 (PVA) that comes in the yellow bottle every day of the week over D4 flooring glue, the D4 flooring glue that expands is used as it makes the flooring joints water tight and also fills any low spots between joist and floor which helps prevent squeaking. Expanding glue doesn't give you sufficient time to work with and it also stains. Titebond 3 is good stuff too
Slowed down quite abit at the min, I’m hoping it’s because we got all our Christmas plots finished early and not the dreaded recession! Tough year or 2 ahead I think. What’s your site like? We get £140 a day day rate but I do everything I can to avoid it! Or at least round the hours up abit when I’m doing it to make it worth while haha
@@ashleydavenport3794 Similar to you mate slowed down but all the Christmas plots have been finished quite early this year, im quite a few first fixes ahead of the plumber atm and they are holding the plots just with a roof on until after Christmas now, scaffolders not basing out anymore so no more joist lifts either, Ended up with some day work, 140 same as you not the best is it really

There is a little clip in there where I show the glue, think it’s just called lumberjack wood adhesive! 👌
