Great video, thx for sharing, we are making a solid oak staircase with the winder at the bottom and straight at the top, it's nice to have a video as a reminder on a job I've done many years ago. I know how to make them, but I lose a little confidence after not doing one for many years, so this has refreshed what I already know, nice to see a quality craftsmen at work.
Hi there🖐I know exactly how you feel about being 'rusty' if you haven't done something for a long time, and like you say, sometimes just a few little reminders bring it all back👊Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
To be fair bud, its only 2.4m from floor to floor, so it does make it a bit easier😉And the tobacco tin has got private things in it😆(well, drill bits and screwdriver points👍) Cheers
Nice to see all that glue and loads of fixings in all the parts, shame they didn’t do that in my daughter new build house by the company beginning with b and ending in is.
It's great to see you back Del been missing you of late, good point you made at 16min on the video about the riser and tread being square, often had problems with newels not been plumb even if the shoulders of the tenon were tight. Look forward to part 2.👍👍
Great video as always! Just wondered why you use pva on the stair joints and not PU glue? I’ve always found the foaming action as it dries guarantees no squeaks!
Hi Daniel🖐PVA glue is INSANELY strong when used on tight joints, and is much more user friendly when used on stairs👍I'm not saying its superior to PU glue, as PU glue is VERY strong and good at bonding non tight joints💪it's just a bit messy for use on stairs😎Thanks for watching and your comment 🤩Cheers Del
Hi Philip🖐They didn't have the radio out on this day, but as you may see from my other videos, if there is lots of noise or a radio going, I usually edit that part to music👍Cheers Del
ALWAYS start fitting from the top Peter👍as the top tread/nosing is an absolute fixed point with no scope for adjustment, unlike the bottom tread/riser which you wouldn't notice being 10mm higher or 10mm lower👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Great video Dell. I’ve got a staircase to do so loving the tips. Pick yourself up a tapered drill and countersink bit set. Axminster do a nice set. Pilot, clearance drill and countersink all in one operation. Save you swapping bits over. Looking forward to the next instalment. All the best. 👍
hello del nice to see your doing bits was thinking you had won the lotto and was living life 🤣🤣 but i must admit there is not enough time in the day just crazy out there with work at the moment
Hi there🖐Absolutely not😲I find blade right saws far easier to use than blade left ones🤔It's mainly due to the better sighting of the blade as you lean over the saw, and as you lean over the saw, you bring it closer in towards your body where you can utilise your core strength better, which gives better power and control👊 I find myself leaning away from my blade left saw to sight the blade, plus it shoots the dust straight into my pockets😆Thanks for your comment😎
@@thetallcarpenter Two things: you're a pro, I'm just a diyer and you're tall, I'm not. My issue is sighting the blade because for me it's over there and I find myself craning and leaning over too much. It took me a while to realize that some saws have the blade on the right and others on the left.
Irony is Dave, I used to be really intimidated by stair fitting, but like you say, facing your fears and getting on with it over the years has made it come really easy now👍Thanks for watching bud 😎 Cheers Del
Aaargh! Wassaproblem? Waassaprawbplemmmm!? Bloody cliffhangers - this is worse than Dynasty and Dallas this is. The design is all to cock innit? Total rise all up the chute? Going too big to leave 750mm at the bottom for the stair lift? Wassaprobleeeeemmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Del, as a Plumber its great watching a Craftsman like yourself. It’s always amazes me how some can see the finished job in their head & allow for all the things involved. I must be honest & cringed a wee bit when you took much ‘meat’ off the Stringer at the top. I thought ‘he’s not left much to hook on with’!! But as always, your Brain was ahead of the game👍 I’m really looking forward to the next part. Makes me think of guys back in the day, with a handful of tools, what they could do. Thanks mate. PS. Some of the Passy Slinging Wood Butchers I work with would be lost with a job like that!!
Hi FB🖐I appreciate your great comment bud, and it's just years of experience being able to work backwards from the end result you want to achieve👍It's always great to have other tradesmen watching, and especially ones that leave nice comments🤗Cheers Del
Top man showing your skills at the highest level.
Appreciate you watching and your very kind comments🤗Cheers Del
A tradesman at the absolute upper echelons of their game, it's a pleasure to watch and learn.
Hi there🖐Your comment is very kind🤗and have many years of experience which goes a long way😎Cheers Del

Great vid; tons of experience and wise thinking on show there. Loving the wonky house series 👍
Thank you Philip🤩I hated stairs when I was learning, but they are one of my favourite jobs now👍Cheers Del
Perfect job and as you are so tall the ideal skilled man to install staircases !
Being tall has its advantages Mike🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
I always look forward to your videos great to see how another trade is done and always such high quality workmanship 🤘😎🤘
I always look forward to your signature emojis Wayne🤩Cheers fella
Thanks Del. I enjoy your videos and appreciate the time and effort it takes to make them. Looking forward to the mistake in the next one!
Appreciate your comment David🤗as it is quite time consuming😬
Great job as always mate ! Show how tall you are, I normally use a step ladder to hook the top section on 😂 I have to ask, what’s in the tobacco tin ?
To be fair bud, its only 2.4m from floor to floor, so it does make it a bit easier😉And the tobacco tin has got private things in it😆(well, drill bits and screwdriver points👍) Cheers
Top job as always Del 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thanks for watching Marc🤩Cheers
First! I was doing stairs today too, can’t wait for part 2
Part 2 coming soon Billy🤞(my fellow stair installer dude🤩) Cheers Del
👍👍👍.Thanks Del
No worries Pete🤩
Cant wait for part 2 of the stairs install
Hi Pat🖐I was going to make it just 1 video, but it would have been 1.5 hours long😵💫Cheers Del
Nice to see all that glue and loads of fixings in all the parts, shame they didn’t do that in my daughter new build house by the company beginning with b and ending in is.
Unfortunately it's all to common for stairs to end with problems due to not being fitted properly😬Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
So bad they've changed their name on merger. Starts with v and ends in ry now !
It's great to see you back Del been missing you of late, good point you made at 16min on the video about the riser and tread being square, often had problems with newels not been plumb even if the shoulders of the tenon were tight. Look forward to part 2.👍👍
Hi Kevin👍Yeah, its only a small tip, but if that riser is not square, you'll always struggle to plumb the newel😬Thanks for your comment bud😎

Were your work mates cross that you wouldn’t let them have the wireless on while filming?
Hi Philip🖐They didn't have the radio out on this day, but as you may see from my other videos, if there is lots of noise or a radio going, I usually edit that part to music👍Cheers Del
I’m watching this purely to see how you getting 2&8 in without turning the air blue!
The air was blue alright Ben😵I just edited it all out😁Cheers Del
Is that a golden Virginia tin sticking out of nail bag Del it's been a while since I seen one of them on the job apart from my own that is
It sure is Brian💪and it's cool that you have one aswel👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi do you always start fitting stairs from the top? My builder says he does it from bottom.
It’s a good job your nice and tall!!😂😂
They are slightly lower ceiling BB😎Thanks for watching🤩Cheers Del
It's great to watch how another joiner works as we all do things slightly differently but get the same results.
Keep up the great work Del👍🏼
That's the magic of our wonderful trade Garry👊Plenty of different ways of getting the same results👍Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter my problem is i should learn to say i cant but im always helping out other people sad eh lol
@@fardastevie2827 We're hard wired not to say 'no' bud🙃
Del, doesn't it bother you at all, being a right-hander, using a circular saw with the blade on the right and the motor on the left?

@julietphillips1991 Good points, and I think blade orientation can suite certain jobs and the hand of the operator also has a bearing👍
Nice Del.
Problem in the next part… 😬
👊🏻
Hi Dan🖐Yes bud, a problem I could have avoided as well😬Thanks for watching 😎
@@thetallcarpenter oh well, I’m sure you got it sorted.

Hi Carl🖐I've just been crazy busy bud, and I hope you're doing OK mate🤞
All that time spent installing stairs for a living paid off. Working out all the top and bottom cuts the hardest part. You make it look easy.
