Two things struck me in your testimony. First, we grow much more from our failures than our successes-if we are willing to pick ourselves up and learn from our mistakes, etc. Second, if people do their passion they will succeed because they won’t measure success by money but by fulfillment. I spent over 30 years in the medical equipment industry and had some success, but it was never my passion. At 57 years-old I retired and went to seminary. Since then I’ve served three churches as their intentional interim pastor-what a joy to exploit the gifts God gives us; truly the best of blessings. I’m 72 now and in the process of moving to So. Cal. and learning how to surf fish-your channel is a great help.
One of the reasons that I like your channel so much is that I was a professional fly fishing guide and instructor for over thirty years and I have been a professional, freelance, outdoor writer for the last eight years now along with creating an online outdoor academy where I offer some twenty different hunting, fly fishing, and survival courses. Thus, I am intimately familiar with what it takes to live your lifestyle and I applaud you for pursuing it!
God bless you my friend. He will take you through highs and lows but never leave you stranded. Thank you for sharing a part of your story and giving the glory to God. I in coal mining for over 7 years and was miserable every day of it. Not to mention I had no time to spend with my wife and kids. Some things happened and now I’ve moved 5 hours south to Daphne, AL providing for my family and doing what I truly enjoy. Keep giving God praise and credit and He will always bless you. While on vacation spring break my girls spotted you at our favorite restaurant in orange beach on the playground with your little girl. They have watched your videos daily since and become big fans! They are already planning to look for you the next time we are there and begging their dad to do a fishing trip. Matt, thanks for sharing your story. I’m a fairly new subscriber, but a Florida native and have fished most of my life (I’m a 68 year old that can’t quite accept getting old). Despite my experience I have learned so much binging your videos! As a believer, I know the Lord has had His hand in the path I’ve walked. I spent 20 years in the USAF and while rewarding it wasn’t necessarily my passion. But, that career has paid off. Keep working towards your goal, love on your wife and daughter - they are your inspiration.
Love your channel, been following for about 18 months starting in Tennessee and then here in Pace Fl. I sold insurance for about 16 months years ago. Quit the day I delivered a check for 1000 bucks to a widow after they had paid on it for abot 15 years, one of those old penny policies from many years ago. I left and worked my way into transportation management where I worked until retiring about 9 years ago at 62, Just getting rigged up for surf fishing after being here since May. We've been vacationing in Gulf Shores/Fort Morgan for several years. I was always looking for videos for surf fishing in the area and there was nothing but a few people on vacation videos just kind of winging it. We learn more from our failures than our successes. That has been a tough thing to teach my kids but now that they are older teenagers it is paying off. I know this is a necro-post on a 2 year old video but as a small businessman who quit my job to resell full time on ebay and have found success at that, I can say I understand and am happy for your success.

Good for you! I worked as a machinist for 30 years and made great money but I hated it. My passion was photography and I began pursuing it in 1998. By 2000, I was able to quit my job as a machinist and work full time as a photographer. I wish you the very best and God bless you and your family.

My wife and I invested in a condo at Lighthouse in Gulf Shores and, although it's not generally for our use, there are vacancy dates that have us there from time to time. Way to go brother, I believe God has a plan for each of us. I know all to well of failure. Failing businesses, all the careers that I thought I was going to succeed in from auto technician to home maintenance and repair, even though I was good at it, it all failed. Like you, fishing is an obsession and I am passionate about it. I don't know if that's the path that the lord wants me to take but who knows? Maybe one day I'll be in your shoes. Just keep doing what your doing and you'll be blessed.

Congratulations, shifting careers is scary. Switched from business to engineering 19 yrs ago. Had to go back to school , had tight times during the transition but the final results have greatly improved my mental outlook and made me appreciate my wife’s support. I enjoy the challenges engineering offers and have never had the same day twice. Good luck!

Matthew, if you get a chance would you make a video with just you. Make it on the tripod of you unpacking and setting your rods as the intro. Then fish while wearing your camera, and as an outtro, tripod yourself packing back up and leaving.
But here's the thing no talking just beach sounds. This gives us the experience as if we are fishing. I have watched some wilderness video like this and if the author wants to tell you something he types it across the screen. In the whole video the author may only say 5 words almost as if he's talking to himself.
I love fishing the beach, love your videos just wanted to see what a video like this would be like and curious of how many likes it would get.

Awesome story! Your videos are great! The information is well taught so that the beginner can learn after watching just once. I’ve been going to Cape San Blas, Florida for the past 4 years. Each year I take some poles and try my luck surf fishing. After finding your channel, I took some pointers to the beach and was able to land some whiting and pompano this year. Is it luck? Maybe. I truly felt more prepared than ever and it paid off. We will make it down to Gulf Shores at some point and when we do, I will definitely book a trip just to say thanks for all you do. Amazing story, what better feeling going after something to be successful for you and your family and it be something that is your passion. I only been fishing for almost 2 years now and it has turned into a deep passion of mine. That means so much to me because I never had a passion for anything before fishing. I am no where near where I want to be in life, but I hope to do what you are doing now one day, and that is turning fishing and that passion for fishing into something beneficial in relation to being able to do what you love and provide for your family at the same time. I am at where you were at back in 2017, within the past few months I bought a GoPro and I am just fishing and making videos. I am not setting any expectations with it right now, just creating and having fun, but if it ever turns into something bigger one day, I am sure going to run with it! Videos like this though is what pushes me to keep going and gives me that drive. Thanks for sharing man, great video and love the channel! I have just found you on U-Tube and enjoy the vids of general fishing, tips on how to fish and cooking. I think you would be very successful focusing on the preparing and cooking fish dishes for home kitchens...... and continuing videos that take us fishing and give us great tips along the way. Don't get this wrong ... your content is excellent and very informative ......... You have potential to become discovered and successful. God has a plan for you guys .......think big / mark this.
I would look as radio and local television stations that will let you do short spots and look at offering sample articles to your newspaper.

Your video about your gear inspired me to go and buy the H20 Express except I bought a 9ft I tend to fish more piers than I do the surf, haven't tried it out yet but hope to soon when we get better winds.

I truly hope that your wife keeps being a good woman for you because I can tell you from terrible experience that can destroy everything you are working toward and really create a dark place in your mind that is hard to heal from. I just always worry for guys nowadays when I see them doing something they love with a woman by their side and all in this world I want for them is for that to keep going. Sometimes you find an opportunity and sometimes an opportunity finds you. I truly feel in your case, you have found a perfect niche for your strengths. Your friendly manner and way of speaking make you very likable personality, and who doesn’t like fishing? I watch all your videos and have even gotten my wife to watch some of your others vlogs with your family. Pensacola has a fishing forum that I always read for the fishing reports and wished my area (FWB) had more content. Love your channel and wish you continued success.

As a viewer of youtube videos, I've watched a lot of channels grow. From what I have seen growth wise in channels, has to do with cooperative efforts with other channels and youtubers. Try inviting other tubers to fish with you...then they usually reciprocate...and this brings awareness of your channel to those tubers subscribers. So try that!

It's really neat when we start seeing a clearer image of the puzzle the Lord has been putting together over time. God will continue confirming that you are on the right path and opening doors for you...This is very exciting what you've shared. RUclips isn't going anywhere; your in the program now, publish the heck out of top quality videos. You have to look at the long term rewards of internet income. I have passive income streams I built ten years ago that continue to produce money today and all I do is watch the auto deposits go into my bank account, month after month. Also, thanks for being open about your beliefs! One other thing, don't reveal secret niche keywords you've found that you can rank for. Someone like me might just start publishing videos about pompano fishing now that you've told us RUclipsrs out here. We are all looking for secret keyword fishing spots that produce money...ha ha

@@BamaBeachBum I'd have to say that is probably not the case. Sharing what you have is is the hallmark of a relationship with the Lord.... If you actually mean brushing up on presentation? That will come with practice, so far nothing I have seen seems out of place. We aren't perfect and too many are afraid to admit to having these imperfections. Fear drives us to think some silly things. You do fine.
