  • IN THIS VIDEO I AM GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO TIE 3 EASY HIGH LOW POMPANO RIGS. These rigs can be used for Pompano, Red Fish, Whiting, Bass or any other type of bottom fishing. These fishing knots range from super easy to the more complex T KNOT. I use these rigs mostly while surf fishing, but they can be used in many applications. If using this rig for whiting I recommend a smaller hook and weight. This is an easy do it yourself high low rig that you wont be fighting the tangles. Beach fishing is one of my favorites when Pompano fishing Florida. I hope this video helps you catch more fish! Tight Lines!!
    I use this pompano rig often with and without floats.
    In this video I will answer all of the below questions.
    How to surf fish for pompano?

    When you put the loop through the hook, come in on the same side as the point(like you did on the first hook in the video). This makes the circle hook want to grab better. When you come in the through the back(as in the last 2 hooks), you are left with the hook hanging backwards and makes it a bit more difficult to hook the fish. Thanks for the tip of twisting line. I had never seen that...

      @@JamesWhite-tg4kw
      Yes, that's the name I knew it before this post (and others copying this name)
      Actually I have no idea how the garlic knot came up.
      Well, the name "T" knot is very appropriate, but you know, things change with time.
      For example; The most celebrated knot, the "Uni" knot, used to be called "The grapevine knot". (More appropriate , because is not created by humans, is created by a grapevine, actually, hundred millions years before human existence) is a good name created in the Miami herald around 70's calling "The universal" (UNI) knot.
      I love both names, but is amazing finding this knot created by nature very often...
      Regards.
      Fred.

    So, the surf is a little rough and I know the fish are way out there. I want to use a 4/5oz sinker to hold bottom and get some extra distance. How do I keep the rig from snapping if I put some oomph into the cast?

    • @thetravelingangler3368
      @thetravelingangler3368  4 года назад +1

      Chris MacDonald I would use a heavier line if it’s snapping. I only snap off rigs casting when my reel closes mid cast. I haven’t really had an issue with line strength without reel closing. Hope this helps

    Where is the best coordinates for pompano out in destin florida??

    • @thetravelingangler3368
      @thetravelingangler3368  4 года назад

      peter c Find a cut with a rip current. Cast close, middle of cut and one as far as you can. Then if you get action in a zone cast another rod there. If those get action then move all rods to that zone. As far as coordinates sandbars and structure changes with currents and storms so without being there now I cannot give exacts. Plus that takes the fun out of fishing. Good luck 🤙🎣

    • @thetravelingangler3368

      From what I know they run the beaches so on a calm day you can probably work the same areas with a jig and teaser. They run inside Pensacola pass so I’m assuming the same with Destin. The jetty gets pretty rough at times but they may run that as well. I have mostly fished them from the beach though. There are a lot of public numbers outside destin pass. I went 30 miles out on New Year’s Day down there and had good luck, but I was not going for pompano.

    Cool video. I was looking for a way to use the 'Twizzled loop'. Barrel swivels are just line joiners. Absolutely useless junk that doesn't swivel. Complete waste of money. You're better off with nothing. Use quality Japanese branded swivels. And just do a loop for the sinker. Another surgeons knot.

      Casting the bait off probably or small bait fish that can’t get the hook in the mouth. Try fish gum. It stays on the hook better
