i'm honestly worried about her well beings. Yes, this is a start of a change, but now is the important stage at how she's going to handle that changes. How she's going to accept her own dreams and not one her Mom impose to her and how her Mom never truly cares for her as a Child, but a Trophy for her to brag. And the cards are amazing at what they're represnting. Mafuyu's finally breaking her Facade, while each of the 3 does their best to help Mafuyu (Or in this case, the bitten Crystal Apple). Kanade embracing, Ena's reaching out and Mizuki's comforting her
The event gacha name in plain text is Where is the ❤? but in the logo it uses the crystal apple heart thing so I like calling it Where is the apple heart?
I said it before,but just as much as I hate Mrs.Asahina for her actions I have to praise the writers for nailing her vibes.I always feel deeply uncomfortable whenever she's around(to the point I was not able to finish reading an event because of that back then) Over the time I came to realize how much I relate to and even admire the niigo characters
What I just noticed abt Mafuyu's Mirage of Light untrained is that it looks like Mrs. Asahina is almost force feeding Mafuyu the apple, and baby Mafuyu looks almost helpless and submissive as she accepts it. At surface level, it's a heartwarming scene of sick Mafuyu being cared for by her mother, yet the way they're positioned and the fact that the view is slightly off-kilter just makes it seem, idk, off. And if you disregard the context of the card and pair it with the trained, the untrained becomes even more chilling, showing that what has poisoned Mafuyu was fed to her as a child under a mask of care and love.
I interpret it as the "love" her mother offered to her as a child being now what poisons her, since it is what made her sacrifice her self in order to make her happy. It is a bond that has only serve to woven the strings that used to control her, something unsincere and egoist.
I kinda noticed that those attachments styles of mafuyu are very similar to len and kaito (who appeared frokm Mafuyu's emotions) Len - Ambivalent (he's just a shy victorian boy) Kaito - Avoidant ( bro did NOT care a single bit for Mafumom and didnt see why she was important to mafuyu, almost like mafumom being like a stranger to him)
That's why I disagree when people say that Kaito was 100% right in kanades event story. I disliked that he talked as if mafuyus mom hasn't had mafuyu around her finger for her entire life, even though she knew deep down that her mom is the source, but that's her MOM she's severely attached to her. Being told "rebel against her lol don't be weak" was so bitchy to me, but from a story point of view I totally understand why kaito was like this.
Another detail about mafuyu's card costume : The front is completely clean (I think), yet the back is dirty. This probably reflects how she seems perfect if you don't know the real her.
I feel like Mrs Asahina did also experience generational trauma. She acts a lot like Mafuyu's good girl persona and her eyes also have that empty, glasslike look in them. Maybe she was unable to achieve her dream of being a doctor and pushed it onto Mafuyu
I'm a fellow hardcore Mafuyu kinnie and I gotta say, this event kinda made me cry. I feel so bad for Mafuyu and I relate to her so much. Its as if she's lost her true identity because she tried fitting into everyone's expectations, especially her mother's. The new card is absolutely stunning and it shows all of her bottled up emotions just escape as she breaks down. Gotta say, props to Sega for writing her.
This year's event stories were so powerful ngl. I also saw the strings in Mafuyu's untrained card as glass shattering. Along with the darker colours and lighting, I saw it as both Mafuyu and Mrs Asahina's rose-coloured glasses breaking. Mirage of Lights has a flashback of Mafuyu as a child. Children's thoughts are relatively innocent and naive, untainted by the bad things around them. The warm and pink lighting represents how Mafuyu views Mrs Asahina with rose-coloured glasses. Because she and Mrs Asahina gaslit Mafuyu into thinking the latter's always wrong in a negative memory, she subconsciously erased all bad memories until Guiding a Lost Child to What Lies Beyond. The more time she had under her mom's influence, the more those negative memories are coming back and the truth is revealed. This technique is kinda like in Tangled which also features an abusive mother-daughter relationship. This also references the archery MafuShizu event card where there's glass breaking and it represents how her perfect facade is breaking and her anger is slowly reaching a point (cue N25 Kaito) The apple heart also probably reflects the order of events too, being Mizuki, Ena and Kanade. With Mizuki holding their apple near to show how relieved they are that Mafuyu can contact them during lunch, Ena trying to reach for her apple when Mafuyu's phone broke and they cannot contact each other and Kanade holding her apple close, the scene where Kanade hugs Mafuyu. I theorize that the person Mrs Asahina's calling is probably Mafuyu's dad (whom may be the passive one in the relationship and given Mrs Asahina's nature, he may also have been emotionally abused and helpless to stop her. Not that it justifies his neglect tho) or a future relative who may be introduced (Mrs Asahina's possible enstranged sibling or her granny) who will probably be a foil to Mrs Asahina: supportive and empathetic and maybe take custody of her depending on Mrs Asahina's next move. Anyways, sorry for this word vomit. I'm glad Mafuyu followed her heart for once in her life and am proud of how far she's come. Let's pray N25 is safe and that Mrs Asahina gets some much-needed karma and justice 😤

I love how each vocaloid in each of Mafuyu’s events link to her feelings and development in that present event too: Imprisoned marionette- Miku is the focus vocaloid and shows Mafuyu’s confusion and unkowing character when coming to terms with her true self. She doesn’t know the representation of the marionette doll yet and the pain it holds, whilst miku doesn’t know the importance of her cutting the strings on the doll, both not knowing the source of Mafuyu’s pain. Mirage of lights- The focus vocaloid is rin, and despite her not being originally summoned by mafuyu, there is still a small bond. The event provides mafuyu with her original memories of love and care that encouraged her original dream of being a nurse and to help other people. Rin’s curiosity to Mafuyu’s photo book and her journey to find her true self encourages rin to dig deeper and wanting to help mafuyu more. What lies beyond guiding a lost child- Len is the vocaloid here, and he represents Mafuyu’s younger self, obeying her mother out of fear, and her present self that is still scared in the event too. Mafuyu gets her memories of her mother manipulating her back too, and is shown by Len and mafuyu starting to realise where the pain is coming from Goodbye to my persona- (I’ll say that miku and kaito are the main vocaloids here since luka didn’t really appear a lot throughout the story) In this event Mafuyu’s personality is split into two (also shown by the split mask in her card -1 pure 1 impure) one of which is shown by miku, Mafuyu’s old, pure self who is still scared but lightly hinting to her mother about her pain without making too much impact and the other shown by kaito, the present, angry and passionate mafuyu who knows where the pain is from and puts her pain into words straightforwardly. It seems that the personalities that miku and kaito represent balance out as shown in the confrontation, as mafuyu is both still caring and afraid for her mother and confident about her feelings.
I also want to point out how in the trained cards, there are stings everywhere, the strings look like it's pulled tightly. But in Mizuki's card, the strings are are flowing, they're not tighten like the others. I think it's symbolising how Ms Asahina has met Kanade and Ena, but she has not met Mizuki yet, that's why the strings around them aren't tighten. It may be that she's manipulating their surroundings, not directly manipulating. Also, want to point out how in lower/lower ones eyes, the cover is a phone falling in water, foreshadowing the events of Saying goodbye to my masked self.
i relate to mafuyu on a personal level, my mother was just like hers, she still is, and eventually, without realizing it, i started cutting off the strings myself, but, i newver knew why i was doing it, after seeing mafuyu's mother, i understand what my mother sees me and saw me as, mafuyu has bought me a lot of comfort as a person, a reason to chase freedom, shes an inspiration for me, even though i dont have people to go to like she does, i hope her healing will go well.

And also the name "mirage" of light: a mirage is an optical illusion, and can also be meant as an illusory vision or dream. mafumom taking care of her when she was sick is the "light", and when she "reached for the light" by explaining how it inspired her, mafumom dismissed her and shut her down, like how when you reach a mirage you realise that it was just an optical illusion
I also noticed that this is the only one of Mafuyu’s focus cards that doesn’t have any plants on it In Memories of Warm Affection there are apple trees, in Captive Masquerade there are roses and in In The Warmth Of Glowing Dusk there are clematis
actually, theres ivy on the objects floating in the background. its hard to see bc theyre out of focus but theyre also present on the strings in the kanade card.
I LOVE the use of Waterfall here. I think it shows the progression of Mafuyu’s emotions. Yes, I know it’s not a project sekai song, it’s Toby Fox’s, but I believe it also shows Mafuyu’s progress in the side story. What starts out calm ends in a crescendo of hurt and pain for someone who’s just 16 years old. Someone who realized this world she was put in wasn’t real and it hurts her deeply.

I love how Mafuyu's card from "where is the 💜" is also a conclusion to the inside narrative told since the first set of cards with Mizuki (in this case) because in Jackpot sad girl Mizuki has a teasing expression on her face while holding some scissors... then we have the scaping the rain set, in which Mizuki offers an umbrella (a basic metaphor of a shelter and a space were feel safe) meaning the "if is to much you can scape" and in Mafuyu's trained we see her with the umbrella, it's closed, but it's there. And now that Mafuyu decides to face her mother and it became too much and all of this happens, in the Mafuyu's trained we see her cutting the strings with the same scissors that Mizuki had (not only but more importantly) on Jackpot sad girl. And gosh I love Theatre, it hits so friking hard and even if one haven't been or felt like Mafuyu about their family/society expectations, one can't know this story and don't scream from all hear "machigata mama ikite kitanda!" Ahhhhhhhh the feels!
Mafuyu as a whole made me realize all the trauma I've been carrying around in my life. Not being able to know what I like and what I don't like. Always strive to be perfect a be better than everyone else. To meet to all expectations. Also feeling so guilty whenever I was unable to "fulfill" my given role. Since my mom was very busy working all day my aunt took care of me, and she was if not, worse than Mafuyu's mom. For me Engeki and this whole arc meant if not the biggest thing to notice in my life. I literally spent hours listening to the songs, watching and re-watching the story over and over again. I've never felt so connected to a character or even a person as I am to Mafuyu, even though I've tried therapy several times, but all of the psychologist and psychiatrists I met were unable to see beyond my mask, to see beyond what meets the eye. To actually see me. I can't wait for this event to hit NA servers and like Mafuyu say goodbye to my masked self, and to her honor even if it seems dumb, I'll pay her my tribute by attempting to get top 10 in this event. So that way we both can live OUR lives and say goodbye to our masked selves.
Also, after this bombshell event, I'm hoping one of the crossover events has one of the Miyajo girls (ideally Honami or Shizuku) learn abt Mafuyu's current situation and home life. If it's Shizuku, it can tap into some untapped relationship potential abt connecting over putting up a perfect facade and Shizuku giving advice on how she learned that she can't please everyone and the people who truly love her are the ones who accept her for who she is

Mafuyu has been slowly becoming my favourite character in prsk the more I read about her story, much of it has resonated with my life experiences and the characterization and writing is so well done. Thank you for the insightful analysis, it was really helpful in understanding Mafuyu's character!
I saw somebody make some kind of theory on TikTok (I can't remember their user so if anyone knows please tell me) and they said that those strings on the cards represented how Mafuyu's mother felt about the Nightcord members: Kanade's were tightly kept, showing strong hatred. Ena's were slightly less loose and Mizuki's were relaxed and untensed. I love how you can gather so much from simply observing these small details in art pieces. Aside from that, I love this video! I'm not the best at inference so I was really interested at the information you picked up from these stories. You also explain things in a way that I can easily understand which definitely made this video more enjoyable. I can't leave without saying that you've received a new Subscriber! 😊
I personally love Mafuyu’s struggles and her personal fight to cut off the strings and become her own, the fact she is the character I relate to the most emotionally and mentally as I am also going through the same struggles as her it shows that it’s okay to run away if you are struggling from your parents your friends are always there no matter what.
Love this analysis! At first I didn't pay attention to Mafuyu's back story but, when I started analysing her cards, it made me understand a lot of things regarding her relationship with her mother, and yup, I didn't like her mom because of that, that feeling became stronger with the What lies behind guiding a lost child and how she acted towards her, why would someone manipulate a little child who's learning about feelings and socialize with other people? Gahhh, that makes me going nuts!

Great video! Loved watching it, especially hearing about the symbolism of the cards! Mafuyu's card in this event might be my favorite Mafuyu card ever! One thing I love about Nightcord's story is the message it sends with Mafuyu's story. With Ms. Asahina, her way of parenting is hauntingly common. I always hear comments about how younger generations are "too sensitive" whenever they don't want to bend to their parents' will, or want to live a happy life, or don't want to put up with unethical work conditions. "Bad" behavior is discouraged, and such strict parenting is so normalized. There are so many parents out there like Ms. Asahina, and older generations usually put the blame on the hurt child, rather than the parents. Mafuyu's story sends the message that "No, you do not have to live a life of suffering to please others. You need to chase what you love, even if it is not within the expectations of those older than you.", which is a message conflicting with the message older generations usually give (The same message is somewhat sent with Ena, with her unrelenting determination to become an artist despite the discouragement from her father). I think the relationship between Ms. Asahina and Mafuyu represents the common dynamic between many teenagers and their parents; both in Japan, and all around the world. Ms. Asahina does not want Mafuyu to do music, because it "isn't stable", "too ambitious", etc. Becoming a doctor would be a much more stable job. Ms. Asahina, and many parents out there, believe that teenagers shouldn't speak out when they suffer, because "being good" is a crucial part of life, and that "running away" is only a coward's move that will hurt them in the end. That's why I think Ms. Asahina acts the way she does. Not necessarily because she is *aware* of her malicious intent, but because that's how many older people act. She probably believes that she cares for Mafuyu, even though she really doesn't. She thinks she's doing the best for her by upholding society's standards and making Mafuyu do the same. Again, I absolutely love the message of Mafuyu's story, that you are not "sensitive" or "naive" because you refuse to put up with suffering, and want to chase your own dreams, even if it is considered "unorthodox" by older generations. Sorry for the ramble, I just wanted to put my two cents in, because I enjoyed the video so much and wanted to give my thoughts!
Just looking back on Mafuyu's reactions (From the most recent events to the beginning of the story of niigo) to things and her keeping up a facade like this actually has a name. It's a phenomena called "Smiling Depression" which from a recent study is a form of masking depression which can result in undiagnosed or unrecognised depression since the person appears to be happy or well organised with work life balance. Its also a rising concern in recent years, and while it isn't officially recognised recognised by the typical scale, it can be diagnosed as Major Depression Disorder (or just depression) with uncommon or atypical features in a clinical setting. This is just the base definition but there is research on this and I do believe Mafuyu does have this, just from my POV and how she acts in front of others

I don’t usually comment on youtube videos but this video essay broke me. Because mafuyu’s story broke me. Im kinda trembling as i write this and i know probably no one will ever see this but… To me niigo’s stories have been so important because at first i was a mafuyu kinnie (still am). I didn’t know why i related to her feelings so much i even thought i was just faking or something and it wasn’t that deep. I just kept on reading all the events as they released and i just kept relating to mafuyu’s “feelings” but nothing deeper. That was until guiding a lost child event came out. That scene you played at the start. I can’t see that without crying. I never realised up until that point. That was literally my childhood. I never suspected ms asahina because that was exactly like my mom. I never saw anything wrong in what she did in previous events, i thought all that was normal until i broke in tears with that minimafu scene and i remembered all those words were repeated to me as well and they were hurting me. Life since then has never been harder. Everytime i look at my mother she’s not what it used to be anymore. Instead i can’t help but seeing all her manipulative tactics and how everything she says just hurts me even if she says it’s “because she cares about me”. It hurts like hell. Sometimes i think it was better when i was completely numb and blind of the situation. It was painful but not as much as it is now. I keep cycling between disgust and denial all the time and it feels just like the “bug” song, im just spinning and getting dizzy. The goodbye to my persona event surprised me very much because i could have never do what she’s done. I’ve tried several times setting boundaries and nothing worked. Instead she said she understands and will listen to me but then she says she forgets but if shes angry she will use that time i tried to set a boundary against me. I always surrendered. Im not a honour student like mafuyu is, never have been, but whenever i disapointed my mom for not doing or doing the slightest thing i just end up noding my head and obeying. It had never ocurred to me none of the options niigo gave mafuyu: escape, rebel, etc. It just blew my mind that she could walk away from home i could have never take the courage to do so. Today i recovered from an operation i had so today my mother told me off about everything “she’s been observing about me”. About me living in a shared appartment. She said that if i don’t “follow her advice” (aka obey her orders) she will not let me live there anymore. It’s funny how two weeks ago she was super proud of me and i was doing so great on my own (one of them weeks i was physically unable to do anything btw) and now im walking on an edge because i apparently don’t “eat properly” (i eat two diffrent meals during the week, not healthy enough for her although she said previously they were okay) and we are not hygienic enough (the day she came to visit the bathroom was not cleaned yet). Im so tired of it all, i just want to go to therapy but for now niigo is the closest thing i have.

The side story where Mafuyu got lost in the amusement park is SICK . It’s so genius whoever did it is i don’t know some kind of yeah as said genius . How the mother said „I thought Mafuyu“ „Mafuyu..“ , the mother didn’t use you , she used Mafuyu her actual name . I don’t know how to explain but it’s just so yeah genius. Also Mafuys mom is definitely not human and definitely had the same problems as Mafuyu but Mafuyus Mother lived on with it and didnt have any friends . Let’s hope Mafumom changes or gets punished and Mafuyu will live a happy life with Niigo

Thank you very much for the video. I played proseka for about 2 months and unknowingly pulled her 4* story card (that one in chapter 8) which happens to be very improtant as in how Mafuyu faced the confrontation and will soon try to live a new life. It's also my first 4* story card, so with the addition of the video and how I got it, Mafuyu is somewhat a special character to me.

i'm honestly worried about her well beings. Yes, this is a start of a change, but now is the important stage at how she's going to handle that changes. How she's going to accept her own dreams and not one her Mom impose to her and how her Mom never truly cares for her as a Child, but a Trophy for her to brag. And the cards are amazing at what they're represnting. Mafuyu's finally breaking her Facade, while each of the 3 does their best to help Mafuyu (Or in this case, the bitten Crystal Apple). Kanade embracing, Ena's reaching out and Mizuki's comforting her

What I just noticed abt Mafuyu's Mirage of Light untrained is that it looks like Mrs. Asahina is almost force feeding Mafuyu the apple, and baby Mafuyu looks almost helpless and submissive as she accepts it. At surface level, it's a heartwarming scene of sick Mafuyu being cared for by her mother, yet the way they're positioned and the fact that the view is slightly off-kilter just makes it seem, idk, off. And if you disregard the context of the card and pair it with the trained, the untrained becomes even more chilling, showing that what has poisoned Mafuyu was fed to her as a child under a mask of care and love.

I interpret it as the "love" her mother offered to her as a child being now what poisons her, since it is what made her sacrifice her self in order to make her happy. It is a bond that has only serve to woven the strings that used to control her, something unsincere and egoist.
I kinda noticed that those attachments styles of mafuyu are very similar to len and kaito (who appeared frokm Mafuyu's emotions)

Kaito - Avoidant ( bro did NOT care a single bit for Mafumom and didnt see why she was important to mafuyu, almost like mafumom being like a stranger to him)
That's why I disagree when people say that Kaito was 100% right in kanades event story. I disliked that he talked as if mafuyus mom hasn't had mafuyu around her finger for her entire life, even though she knew deep down that her mom is the source, but that's her MOM she's severely attached to her. Being told "rebel against her lol don't be weak" was so bitchy to me, but from a story point of view I totally understand why kaito was like this.

I'm a fellow hardcore Mafuyu kinnie and I gotta say, this event kinda made me cry. I feel so bad for Mafuyu and I relate to her so much. Its as if she's lost her true identity because she tried fitting into everyone's expectations, especially her mother's. The new card is absolutely stunning and it shows all of her bottled up emotions just escape as she breaks down. Gotta say, props to Sega for writing her.

This year's event stories were so powerful ngl.
I also saw the strings in Mafuyu's untrained card as glass shattering. Along with the darker colours and lighting, I saw it as both Mafuyu and Mrs Asahina's rose-coloured glasses breaking. Mirage of Lights has a flashback of Mafuyu as a child. Children's thoughts are relatively innocent and naive, untainted by the bad things around them. The warm and pink lighting represents how Mafuyu views Mrs Asahina with rose-coloured glasses. Because she and Mrs Asahina gaslit Mafuyu into thinking the latter's always wrong in a negative memory, she subconsciously erased all bad memories until Guiding a Lost Child to What Lies Beyond.
The more time she had under her mom's influence, the more those negative memories are coming back and the truth is revealed. This technique is kinda like in Tangled which also features an abusive mother-daughter relationship.
This also references the archery MafuShizu event card where there's glass breaking and it represents how her perfect facade is breaking and her anger is slowly reaching a point (cue N25 Kaito)
The apple heart also probably reflects the order of events too, being Mizuki, Ena and Kanade. With Mizuki holding their apple near to show how relieved they are that Mafuyu can contact them during lunch, Ena trying to reach for her apple when Mafuyu's phone broke and they cannot contact each other and Kanade holding her apple close, the scene where Kanade hugs Mafuyu.
I theorize that the person Mrs Asahina's calling is probably Mafuyu's dad (whom may be the passive one in the relationship and given Mrs Asahina's nature, he may also have been emotionally abused and helpless to stop her. Not that it justifies his neglect tho) or a future relative who may be introduced (Mrs Asahina's possible enstranged sibling or her granny) who will probably be a foil to Mrs Asahina: supportive and empathetic and maybe take custody of her depending on Mrs Asahina's next move.
Anyways, sorry for this word vomit. I'm glad Mafuyu followed her heart for once in her life and am proud of how far she's come. Let's pray N25 is safe and that Mrs Asahina gets some much-needed karma and justice 😤

I love how each vocaloid in each of Mafuyu’s events link to her feelings and development in that present event too:
Imprisoned marionette-
Miku is the focus vocaloid and shows Mafuyu’s confusion and unkowing character when coming to terms with her true self. She doesn’t know the representation of the marionette doll yet and the pain it holds, whilst miku doesn’t know the importance of her cutting the strings on the doll, both not knowing the source of Mafuyu’s pain.
Mirage of lights-
The focus vocaloid is rin, and despite her not being originally summoned by mafuyu, there is still a small bond. The event provides mafuyu with her original memories of love and care that encouraged her original dream of being a nurse and to help other people. Rin’s curiosity to Mafuyu’s photo book and her journey to find her true self encourages rin to dig deeper and wanting to help mafuyu more.
What lies beyond guiding a lost child-
Len is the vocaloid here, and he represents Mafuyu’s younger self, obeying her mother out of fear, and her present self that is still scared in the event too. Mafuyu gets her memories of her mother manipulating her back too, and is shown by Len and mafuyu starting to realise where the pain is coming from
Goodbye to my persona-
(I’ll say that miku and kaito are the main vocaloids here since luka didn’t really appear a lot throughout the story) In this event Mafuyu’s personality is split into two (also shown by the split mask in her card -1 pure 1 impure) one of which is shown by miku, Mafuyu’s old, pure self who is still scared but lightly hinting to her mother about her pain without making too much impact and the other shown by kaito, the present, angry and passionate mafuyu who knows where the pain is from and puts her pain into words straightforwardly. It seems that the personalities that miku and kaito represent balance out as shown in the confrontation, as mafuyu is both still caring and afraid for her mother and confident about her feelings.
I also want to point out how in the trained cards, there are stings everywhere, the strings look like it's pulled tightly. But in Mizuki's card, the strings are are flowing, they're not tighten like the others. I think it's symbolising how Ms Asahina has met Kanade and Ena, but she has not met Mizuki yet, that's why the strings around them aren't tighten. It may be that she's manipulating their surroundings, not directly manipulating.
Also, want to point out how in lower/lower ones eyes, the cover is a phone falling in water, foreshadowing the events of Saying goodbye to my masked self.
i relate to mafuyu on a personal level, my mother was just like hers, she still is, and eventually, without realizing it, i started cutting off the strings myself, but, i newver knew why i was doing it, after seeing mafuyu's mother, i understand what my mother sees me and saw me as, mafuyu has bought me a lot of comfort as a person, a reason to chase freedom, shes an inspiration for me, even though i dont have people to go to like she does, i hope her healing will go well.

And also the name "mirage" of light: a mirage is an optical illusion, and can also be meant as an illusory vision or dream. mafumom taking care of her when she was sick is the "light", and when she "reached for the light" by explaining how it inspired her, mafumom dismissed her and shut her down, like how when you reach a mirage you realise that it was just an optical illusion

I LOVE the use of Waterfall here. I think it shows the progression of Mafuyu’s emotions. Yes, I know it’s not a project sekai song, it’s Toby Fox’s, but I believe it also shows Mafuyu’s progress in the side story. What starts out calm ends in a crescendo of hurt and pain for someone who’s just 16 years old. Someone who realized this world she was put in wasn’t real and it hurts her deeply.

I love how Mafuyu's card from "where is the 💜" is also a conclusion to the inside narrative told since the first set of cards with Mizuki (in this case) because in Jackpot sad girl Mizuki has a teasing expression on her face while holding some scissors... then we have the scaping the rain set, in which Mizuki offers an umbrella (a basic metaphor of a shelter and a space were feel safe) meaning the "if is to much you can scape" and in Mafuyu's trained we see her with the umbrella, it's closed, but it's there. And now that Mafuyu decides to face her mother and it became too much and all of this happens, in the Mafuyu's trained we see her cutting the strings with the same scissors that Mizuki had (not only but more importantly) on Jackpot sad girl.
And gosh I love Theatre, it hits so friking hard and even if one haven't been or felt like Mafuyu about their family/society expectations, one can't know this story and don't scream from all hear "machigata mama ikite kitanda!" Ahhhhhhhh the feels!
Mafuyu as a whole made me realize all the trauma I've been carrying around in my life. Not being able to know what I like and what I don't like. Always strive to be perfect a be better than everyone else. To meet to all expectations. Also feeling so guilty whenever I was unable to "fulfill" my given role. Since my mom was very busy working all day my aunt took care of me, and she was if not, worse than Mafuyu's mom. For me Engeki and this whole arc meant if not the biggest thing to notice in my life. I literally spent hours listening to the songs, watching and re-watching the story over and over again. I've never felt so connected to a character or even a person as I am to Mafuyu, even though I've tried therapy several times, but all of the psychologist and psychiatrists I met were unable to see beyond my mask, to see beyond what meets the eye. To actually see me.
I can't wait for this event to hit NA servers and like Mafuyu say goodbye to my masked self, and to her honor even if it seems dumb, I'll pay her my tribute by attempting to get top 10 in this event. So that way we both can live OUR lives and say goodbye to our masked selves.
Also, after this bombshell event, I'm hoping one of the crossover events has one of the Miyajo girls (ideally Honami or Shizuku) learn abt Mafuyu's current situation and home life. If it's Shizuku, it can tap into some untapped relationship potential abt connecting over putting up a perfect facade and Shizuku giving advice on how she learned that she can't please everyone and the people who truly love her are the ones who accept her for who she is

This is a great video! Mafuyu has been slowly becoming my favourite character in prsk the more I read about her story, much of it has resonated with my life experiences and the characterization and writing is so well done. Thank you for the insightful analysis, it was really helpful in understanding Mafuyu's character!
I saw somebody make some kind of theory on TikTok (I can't remember their user so if anyone knows please tell me) and they said that those strings on the cards represented how Mafuyu's mother felt about the Nightcord members: Kanade's were tightly kept, showing strong hatred. Ena's were slightly less loose and Mizuki's were relaxed and untensed. I love how you can gather so much from simply observing these small details in art pieces.
Aside from that, I love this video! I'm not the best at inference so I was really interested at the information you picked up from these stories. You also explain things in a way that I can easily understand which definitely made this video more enjoyable. I can't leave without saying that you've received a new Subscriber! 😊
I personally love Mafuyu’s struggles and her personal fight to cut off the strings and become her own, the fact she is the character I relate to the most emotionally and mentally as I am also going through the same struggles as her it shows that it’s okay to run away if you are struggling from your parents your friends are always there no matter what.

At first I didn't pay attention to Mafuyu's back story but, when I started analysing her cards, it made me understand a lot of things regarding her relationship with her mother, and yup, I didn't like her mom because of that, that feeling became stronger with the What lies behind guiding a lost child and how she acted towards her, why would someone manipulate a little child who's learning about feelings and socialize with other people?

One thing I love about Nightcord's story is the message it sends with Mafuyu's story. With Ms. Asahina, her way of parenting is hauntingly common. I always hear comments about how younger generations are "too sensitive" whenever they don't want to bend to their parents' will, or want to live a happy life, or don't want to put up with unethical work conditions. "Bad" behavior is discouraged, and such strict parenting is so normalized. There are so many parents out there like Ms. Asahina, and older generations usually put the blame on the hurt child, rather than the parents. Mafuyu's story sends the message that "No, you do not have to live a life of suffering to please others. You need to chase what you love, even if it is not within the expectations of those older than you.", which is a message conflicting with the message older generations usually give (The same message is somewhat sent with Ena, with her unrelenting determination to become an artist despite the discouragement from her father). I think the relationship between Ms. Asahina and Mafuyu represents the common dynamic between many teenagers and their parents; both in Japan, and all around the world. Ms. Asahina does not want Mafuyu to do music, because it "isn't stable", "too ambitious", etc. Becoming a doctor would be a much more stable job. Ms. Asahina, and many parents out there, believe that teenagers shouldn't speak out when they suffer, because "being good" is a crucial part of life, and that "running away" is only a coward's move that will hurt them in the end. That's why I think Ms. Asahina acts the way she does. Not necessarily because she is *aware* of her malicious intent, but because that's how many older people act. She probably believes that she cares for Mafuyu, even though she really doesn't. She thinks she's doing the best for her by upholding society's standards and making Mafuyu do the same. Again, I absolutely love the message of Mafuyu's story, that you are not "sensitive" or "naive" because you refuse to put up with suffering, and want to chase your own dreams, even if it is considered "unorthodox" by older generations.
Sorry for the ramble, I just wanted to put my two cents in, because I enjoyed the video so much and wanted to give my thoughts!
Just looking back on Mafuyu's reactions (From the most recent events to the beginning of the story of niigo) to things and her keeping up a facade like this actually has a name. It's a phenomena called "Smiling Depression" which from a recent study is a form of masking depression which can result in undiagnosed or unrecognised depression since the person appears to be happy or well organised with work life balance. Its also a rising concern in recent years, and while it isn't officially recognised recognised by the typical scale, it can be diagnosed as Major Depression Disorder (or just depression) with uncommon or atypical features in a clinical setting. This is just the base definition but there is research on this and I do believe Mafuyu does have this, just from my POV and how she acts in front of others

I don’t usually comment on youtube videos but this video essay broke me. Because mafuyu’s story broke me. Im kinda trembling as i write this and i know probably no one will ever see this but… To me niigo’s stories have been so important because at first i was a mafuyu kinnie (still am). I didn’t know why i related to her feelings so much i even thought i was just faking or something and it wasn’t that deep. I just kept on reading all the events as they released and i just kept relating to mafuyu’s “feelings” but nothing deeper. That was until guiding a lost child event came out. That scene you played at the start. I can’t see that without crying. I never realised up until that point. That was literally my childhood. I never suspected ms asahina because that was exactly like my mom. I never saw anything wrong in what she did in previous events, i thought all that was normal until i broke in tears with that minimafu scene and i remembered all those words were repeated to me as well and they were hurting me. Life since then has never been harder. Everytime i look at my mother she’s not what it used to be anymore. Instead i can’t help but seeing all her manipulative tactics and how everything she says just hurts me even if she says it’s “because she cares about me”. It hurts like hell. Sometimes i think it was better when i was completely numb and blind of the situation. It was painful but not as much as it is now. I keep cycling between disgust and denial all the time and it feels just like the “bug” song, im just spinning and getting dizzy.
The goodbye to my persona event surprised me very much because i could have never do what she’s done. I’ve tried several times setting boundaries and nothing worked. Instead she said she understands and will listen to me but then she says she forgets but if shes angry she will use that time i tried to set a boundary against me. I always surrendered. Im not a honour student like mafuyu is, never have been, but whenever i disapointed my mom for not doing or doing the slightest thing i just end up noding my head and obeying. It had never ocurred to me none of the options niigo gave mafuyu: escape, rebel, etc. It just blew my mind that she could walk away from home i could have never take the courage to do so.
Today i recovered from an operation i had so today my mother told me off about everything “she’s been observing about me”. About me living in a shared appartment. She said that if i don’t “follow her advice” (aka obey her orders) she will not let me live there anymore. It’s funny how two weeks ago she was super proud of me and i was doing so great on my own (one of them weeks i was physically unable to do anything btw) and now im walking on an edge because i apparently don’t “eat properly” (i eat two diffrent meals during the week, not healthy enough for her although she said previously they were okay) and we are not hygienic enough (the day she came to visit the bathroom was not cleaned yet).
Im so tired of it all, i just want to go to therapy but for now niigo is the closest thing i have.

The side story where Mafuyu got lost in the amusement park is SICK . It’s so genius whoever did it is i don’t know some kind of yeah as said genius . How the mother said „I thought Mafuyu“ „Mafuyu..“ , the mother didn’t use you , she used Mafuyu her actual name . I don’t know how to explain but it’s just so yeah genius. Also Mafuys mom is definitely not human and definitely had the same problems as Mafuyu but Mafuyus Mother lived on with it and didnt have any friends . Let’s hope Mafumom changes or gets punished and Mafuyu will live a happy life with Niigo

I could not help but to get pretty attached to this game because like HOW am i supposed to not to when this video just proves how good it is T^T. Thank you very much for the video. I played proseka for about 2 months and unknowingly pulled her 4* story card (that one in chapter 8) which happens to be very improtant as in how Mafuyu faced the confrontation and will soon try to live a new life. It's also my first 4* story card, so with the addition of the video and how I got it, Mafuyu is somewhat a special character to me.
