I’ve always wanted to make a worm that is literally a worm, and I want to name it Wormagotchi. It would just place an executable file on your desktop that would be a tamagotchi but a worm. And have a button with on it that uninstalls the worm, places the Wormagotchi data in a zip in an app data file, then leaves a folder on the desktop with a .txt with the worm saying goodbye to the user in it, and a .png that’s a screenshot of your desktop but with the worm sleeping in the foreground.
If you got reinfected, the data would be retrieved, and a pop up saying something along the lines of “worm has returned from its trip!” would appear when launching the file explorer.
Honestly such a cute idea but that's the kind of thing I was wondering about it would be cool if instead of the usual stuff malware does you get a game that also sends itself to your friends to play once you've beaten it I feel like thar could be a very cool concept, like how some games change your desktop background and such as part of the experience
But it also like self deletes itself once you beat it too (after sending itself to someone else)
cool idea, if I(or someone else) learn how to program malware that interacts with the system AND other apps, then I might make something like it, but I'm not a good game Dev to make the tomagotchi

Honestly classic malware that screws with your computer, and doesn't destroy anything is a long lost art.
People have made really cool stuff in DOS.
It's not necessarily "long lost" it's just getting yeeted by the OS immediately lol
I don’t think these viruses are cool at all. There are ways to make computer art that don’t involve intruding on peoples lives and wasting their time. Getting those viruses would be so frustrating and the malware designers think it’s funny. If this art is lost that’s a good thing

this basically happened in my school district. someone got into the district database by someone clicking a link or smth and the hacker or whatever sent everyone in the district an email that looked like it was formatted from the district office and it basically said ‘hey! anyone can send an email that looks like it’s official. don’t click random links!!’
my dad did this for his cybersecurity course, lmao -- dropped usb keys on the street that, when opened, do a fake-out scare followed by "don't plug random things into your computer. this is why." fun stuff!
That's illegal. I will only test/analyse malware on a VM.
The good thing is there's less malware targeting end users these days. Hackers have figured out there's no real money to be made in trying to ransomware Grandma's computer & demanding Bitcoin. Instead, they mostly go after bigger fish, trying to ransomware companies and other large entities.
it’s apparently a “good” thing they’re targeting government databases and threatening nations and scientific organizations like NASA now
I would say the opposite. There are millions maybe even billions of viruses that spy on you, steal your info, or just fck up your pc.
I'm pretty sure it has only increased, that background crypto mining crap is everywhere.
No but grandma’s computer is probably the most likely target of everyday users. If they’re targeting everyday people it’s people who are more likely to be gullible/forgetful/confused by technology/etc, things that are much more likely in older people. Maybe 6 years ago or so my grandma managed to get ransomware on her computer, and despite my dad’s best efforts to help, she just permanently lost a bunch of files and it was a really upsetting experience for my entire family. And then a few years later, maybe 2019 or 2020, my grandma on the other side of the family fell for some scam where she let people have remote access to her computer, and in that case it scared her so bad she literally refuses to use a computer again, and we honestly don’t know the state of that computer were it to be turned back on. Elderly people really are the target audience for scammers who are trying to go for everyday people as opposed to larger entities
Most malware is undetected, hackers figured it's less of a hassle to just run cyrpto-miners/botnets than try to ransom money from random people.
Back when malware writers were less malicious than youtube "prank" channels.

Even viruses used to be creative in so many ways, it's amazing I've lived to see the day where it used to be very unknown and "scary" but nowadays it's just pathetic and lazy. Malware used to be art, now it's just distorted and used for the giant Corporate and War Machines that drive our entire base economy... It's kinda sad to see, that an extension of ourselves and the stars, being computers (and us, plants, animals etc.) on a literal atomic-subatomic level being perverted into such dystopian means of use when we could have been exploring the very stars we're all made out of by the 80's-90's already. I feel very sorry for our species because of this but still we should praise the good and use of* technology some of us try to do to prevent a slide back into barbarism, bigotry and ignorance which is already so rife and has been for a while in our world. Hopefully the future can be better.

In my opinion, coding or anything related to a computer was a really obscure niche in the 90s.
And much like the pilots in WW1, the computer enthusiasts/malware makers acted much more civil to eachother because the activity they were partaking in was so niche that every fellow nerds/pilots is a potential best pal. Plus, it takes skills to achive such feats -> they made it into a sport where sportmanship was encouraged.
Nowadays, as hacking and coding have become more mainstream than ever, combined with our society's shift to materialism, hacking has become nothing more than a fluke, sadly.

@@syphilisgaming ON GOD!!1!
great vid - i grew up around when viruses were made for kicks and this was a great little revisit.
i was surprised that you didn't cover rogue antiviruses! those things were an odd inbetween - somewhere between the theatrics of the old era and the scammery of the new.
this video is really good!! i really like the way you made it:) subscribed right away!!
Thanks for inspiration and advice!

We need some sort of "funware" hosting service where people can upload their programs (audited of course) that don't do anything bad, instead they just look cool or do cool things.
Nice video, the algorithm seems to be supporting this, hopefully, it gets to 100k or more.
0:32 OMG ETELED PLUSH- that was like the first creepypasta that stuck w me omg it holds such a special place in my heart x3
I love how you made a video explaining how Malware isn't as fun as it used to be.
If you expand the definition of life far enough some malware could be considered alive
this is extremely interesting. i will be thinking about this forever thank you
Your videos are underrated. You deserve more subscribers!
18:43 I've seen such creativity with limited ressources only in the demo scene, specifially 64K intros
While it's not really malware one unique piece of software is Suicide Linux which will delete itself if you make a mistake in the command line.
Malware used to be fun. Malware used to not just destroy your files, it also used to do cool things like make your icons run away or pop up a funny message. Nowadays it's all "give me your money or your files are locked forever."
i didnt realize i was already subbed to you awesome
my computer crashed while watching this and it jumpscared me but it also made some cool patterns
i want to run one of these on an actual computer just to know what it's like
back in the 80's and even 90's, the term "malware" did not yet exist. viruses, trojans and worms were simply referred as just that.
also, i should point out that those terms are used to DESCRIBE the unwanted code's activity (what it does). as such, a virus can also be a worm or trojan, depending on what it does and how it acts.
Beautiful video. I love it !
17:00 not the lunatic mode😭😭😭😭
Kudos to the Jumpscare Lady for teaching me not to click on everything on the Internet.
