Hello everyone, Fru here. First of all, thank you so much for 3K subscribers and more. I am extremely late I know but the amount of effort I put into this and the emotional turmoil I went through throughout the production process of this video made me feel that this is a worthy video to be the 3K subs special. Second of all there is construction going on near my house and I do not have enough clout to tell them “I am FructoseTolerant I need to record a video” so I am sorry if you can hear the construction noises. Jokes aside, onto your scheduled programming.
The book the Metamorphosis written by author Franz Kakfa and published 1915 tells the story of a merchant, Gregor Samsa, who wakes up one day to find out that he has been transformed into a huge insect and the story shows us how he struggles to adapt to this change in his form. The story explores the themes of identity, family, isolation, and of course transformation. The reason why I start this video off like this is because the HIT GAME PROJECT SEKAI COLOURFUL STAGE FEATURING HATSUNE MIKU references this book. In this video I will be talking about my thoughts on the events that happen in the story as well as analysing the cards and song. And oh! If you’ve seen this thread on twitter, that's written by yours truly and I’ll be using what I said there a lot in this video.

I JUST SAW AN EDITING MISTAKE AT THE BEGINNING IT IS SUPPOSED TO SAY SAMSA NOT HITSUJI GA IPPIKI
another thing i noticed is that in kanade’s card, mafuyu is represented as a butterfly, while the card for kaito, who is a manifestation of mafuyu’s feelings has a strong moth motif. moths are generally considered to be inferior to butterflies as their wings aren’t as bright and flashy, even though both insects function identically. it shows how mafumom would view fuyu’s true self as less than as opposed to fuyu’s persona because it’s not as eye catching, even though fuyu is still the same person at core.
OMG this reminds me of the butterfly dream by zhuangzi
@@frutolerant ABNORMALITY DANCING GIRL
I did not research for my thoughts at all and now I feel like I should've.
About Mizuki, Mizuki is basically the opposite of Mafumom’s ideal of a “good child” but they still get good grades which is Mafuyu’s “trophy” to Mafumom. If they both meet or talk.. I would how that would affect Mafumom, that is if Mizuki reveals something as skipping school which I highly doubt would happen. Since well.. it’s Mafumom, being rebellious is a danger to the group. We’ll just have to see where this goes next!
Now I'm wondering about an idea where Mafumom learns about this other person with good grades but bad stuff too.
She would probably go on to say, Mizuki would fail in life and stuff, wouldn't she?
@@berry_pipertchaika4059 If my own mother is any reference, she'd say that Mizuki is just running away from her expectations and duties as a schoolchild and will never learn work ethic like this; going on to fail.
@@german-americanmapping6766 thing is Mizuki has a part time job if I'm correct, so Mizuki can dispel that idea too
@@berry_pipertchaika4059 She'd probably just start talking about the others then.
Not so fun fact: in the teaser when the collage hand with Niigo's color nails catch the apple you can see one finger with Mizuki's color more distant from the other fingers, meaning that Mizuki is still being distant because of their secret (idk if someone said this yet)
That makes sense and it’s also true! Man, I can’t wait for their secret to be revealed! 😆 Please Sega don’t make us wait 5,000 more years! 😭
@@KogawaYuri-ENVtuberMizuki’s “secret” is pretty obvious though. I feel they they just won’t outright say it because of censorship, but it is heavily implied.
Yeah. In my thoughts, I somehow made everything about mafuyu. It's either complete favoritism or just I found more ways to incorporate it to mafuyu.
Great analysis! I love how in this event Kanade sort of act as an audience surrogate for players who wants to believe that Mafumom is doing everything out of genuine love and care for Mafuyu (even if she unfortunately expressed it in a way that hurts Mafuyu) and seeing Kanade trying _so hard_ to make Mafumom see things from Mafuyu's perspective, to the point of finally mentioning how Mafuyu had wanted to disappear before, only to see Mafumom just... not getting it is honestly heartbreaking. Especially since Mafuyu clearly loves her mom so much.
Seeing Kanade shifts gear when she finally realizes that Mafumom doesn't actually care about Mafuyu is *awesome* though! The art manages to convey just how angry, frustrated and in disbelief Kanade felt in that moment, and I love how Kanade stops referring to Mafumom in her head as "Mafuyu's mother" to "this person" to show she could no longer see her as Mafuyu's mother, because a mother in her eyes is someone who loves her child unconditionally... They did a really good job showing how Kanade expresses her anger, she's so mature and amazing in handling the meeting I love her so much T_T
and i dunno how right i am, but this is also the first time we see Kanade being this angry at someone
The only time we see her this angry I think is in the main story where she’s angry at herself for making the song that hurt her dad
Which is incredibly sad now that I think about it 😭
Let’s go Kanade gonna beat up Mafumom after a few weeks of training at Spojoy! 🤣
Yes please Sega! I want mafuyus mother to be going on a peaceful walk, when kanade suddenly punches her!
Also I think most of the reason kanade was so angry is because she thinks mafuyu deserves a mother more like kanades.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!
The only thing I want to mention however that the flowers on Niigo's cards look less like Japanese Irises and more like Iris Cristatas, also a type of poisonous toxic flowers. Its just Cristatas visually look more like what we see in game. Though funnily those flowers are also listed as medicinal plants, which could tie into whole Mafumom wanting Mafuyu to be a doctor. From Niigo's side, theyre helping and healing Mafuyu, but from Mafumom's perspective, Niigo's poisonous and a toxic influence on Mafuyu, since we do see those flowers on Mafuyu's head! The seeds of imperfection has long been planted and are slowly blooming.
OOOOOOO this is so interesting!
Cool!
There are a lot of great things from last Event that I actually forget that they haven't given Kanade her own focused story with her Group for about 18 months straight. How we can finally know the face of the most detestable being in ProSeka, Kanade finally having 3DMV, Niigo's finally got the whole group and of course the 3DMV that really gives quite a good KanaMafu materials
Yessss
a theory about the trailer i had-
the apple falling represents mafuyu, being bitten into or manipulated by her mother, her true self and feelings slowly dissolving. because the mirrors are seen from mafumoms prospective, she sees a perfectly well apple, or mafuyus good girl persona. the cracks in the mirrors is mafumom knowing shes hurting and manipulating mafuyu, and mafuyu suffering under the pressure of her mom. when a hand catches the apple with the members of niigo on it, the apple stops being bitten. showing niigo is saving mafuyu. if u look at this from mafumoms prospective, when food falls to the floor, it goes bad and you can no longer eat it. mafumom sees niigo as a threat to mafuyu, turning her “rebellious” and “bad”, and she can no longer eat away at mafuyu when niigo is around.
Agreed
That makes me think of her upgraded archery card, the silence that only you know because the glass is being broken.
I want to add to the apple motifs and another way to view the line "it feels like i am biting into an apple, samsa". Apples, in my opinion, also represents love, because when mafuyu had the apples in the past (when her mom had listened to her request and cut them into the shape of bunnies), she felt warm. Kanade remembered that her mother had fed her apples when she had gotten sick, and when mafuyu ate those apples, she was reminded of that old memory. But when she arrived back home and eats the apples her mom serves (this time, her request was unheard, mafuyu herself pushin it aside), she tasted nothing. In a way, for both kanade and mafuyu, the apples they had as kids were served by someone who had warmth in them, which is why they remember it fondly, and which is why kanade serving the apples to mafuyu helps trigger the old memory. But now, mafumom lacks all warmth, she has become a cold, distant yet opressive figure, so when she serves mafuyu the apples, they dont taste like anything. My friend also mentioned that, the apples have started to rot, so now when mafuyu bits into an apple, theres a feeling of disgust, anger, resentment (kaito being proof). Hence the "but why is my soul still throbbing, it feels like i am biting into an apple" line. Does it make sense?? I hope it makes sense-
Anyways, amazing analysis!! I have read your threads on twitter and this video is an amazing addition to them!! CONGRATS ON 3K SUBS YOU DESERVE IT ALL AND MORE!!
Nice! That’s neat!
My favorite thing about the apple symbolism is that the Reborn card set is based on Snow White, who was famously poisoned by an apple ("love") from her mother figure
i think it’s decently important to reference the archery card aswell because it is portraying a glass or mirror broken by mafuyu while grasping an archery arrow. it’s known that mafu started archery at the request of her mother, yet her shattered (glass? mirror.?) tells us that she’s not just lost within her feelings, she has no idea what is within herself. her holding the archery arrow is like how she hasn’t really realized what her mom is doing to her. “Even as the fringed iris seeps it’s poison into my body” she really thinks she’s wrong for feeling this way, for being manipulated and poisoned, even if she hasn’t realized it, because she hasn’t fully realized the iris is poisoning her. If it is a glass she is breaking in that card, it can represent her personality; very easy to crumble. If it is a mirror, then it further pushes the idea that mafuyu hasn’t realized her mother’s poison and is instead looking down on herself for feeling this way.
Hey I just want to say something.
In Greek Mythology, throwing apples means that the person who throws the apple loves the person who took it. And if the person who got thrown the apple took it, it means they accepted it. While in the other case, Gregor Samsa's father throwed apple at him (which is later the cause of his death, According to someone's comment I saw), that probably cause Gregor Samsa to be injured(I didnt read the book)
And this might reflects to Mafumom and Mafuyu. Ofcourse Mafuyu cannot reject her mom 'love', and beacuse of this she is slowly dying of the 'love' her mom give.
And the Lyrics that have the word SHAGA. And from the result of research, it turns out that the Shaga is actually a flower, which is known as Fringed Iris too. The flower is a poisionus flower.
And according to google, the Iris flower symbolise hope. But, what if its poisionus? Just like how Mafumoms hope to Mafuyu is slowly killing her.
(This is just my thoughts!)
That feeling when your favorite song is about the metamorphosis which is your favorite novel and your favorite game added it and your favorite novelist is Franz Kafka and your favorite character from hsr is named after Kafka
this whole thing screams infp 4w5 please tell me this is ur personality type😭

So I think that the first 2 lines of the chorus represent mainly Kanade and Ena’s actions through their own focus events.
‘Everyone’s soul has now barely managed to’ is sung by Kanade and Ena, this line could probably be seen as how everyone (aka the whole of N25) has internally suffered in some way (kanade- being unable to save people with her songs, mafuyu- being unable to express and find her true feelings, ena- being afraid of not catching up to N25 with her art, mizuki- being unable to tell n25 about their past). The words ‘throb, throb painfully’ are sung by Mafuyu and Mizuki, possibly because those two have arguably gone through the most pain out of the 4 so far (?not really sure on the line distribution here).
‘The pain and the affectionate babbling were just troublesome’ is also sung by Kanaena. It’s not very clear on what the line means, however I think (from looking at another translation of this line - ‘The pain and babbling were actually worth it’) it means that the two girls have now pushed the pain aside from their minds after realising it was only a way of them developing further on and that if they chose to be bothered by the pain then it would eventually become a hazard to them. It represents how both Kanade and Ena have began to overcome their fears throughout their event stories, such as how Kanade lived through a painful childhood memory in order to save Mafuyu in Carnation Recollection, and how Ena went back to a place that once traumatised her (her old art class) in On this blank canvas I paint. This is then followed on by how both girls continue to do what they love (composing, art) without giving up even if they had to experience some pain along the way.
This line is nicely followed up by ‘But why is my soul still throbbing now?’ which is sang by Mizuki and Mafuyu, the other two girls who have yet to stop the throbbing pain or even at least ease it out. It’s quite fitting since they have yet to resolve their problems, in Mafuyu’s case it’s that the problem is almost life or death and could affect her whole future, in Mizuki’s case it’s that they haven’t even expressed their problems to the others yet.
[Just my own interpretation, probably well off the real meaning but oh well]
Also i love ur analysis sm ahhhh
**Not sure if anyone has answered this question for your confusion, but couldn’t really be bothered to see if it has been in the 79 comments haha.
For 6:13, if you’re talking about the two lines that you said you were confused on, “The pain and affectionate babbling were just troublesome” and “But why is my soul still throbbing now? (throbbing painfully)”, I believe the first line means how troublesome Mafuyu thinks it is that her classmates at school are still under the impression she is the best and greatest at everything she does at school, when in reality, both everyone and her knows that it isn’t quite exactly true. It’s troublesome to Mafuyu, because it’s not true, and it’s almost like they’re missing entire point-might I even dare assume that Mafuyu feels like they’re not acknowledging or seeing her pain (that she somewhat acknowledges herself (by ‘somewhat’, I mean, we all know how Mafuyu keeps describing the anguish in her heart that she feels, but never (at least I don’t think so) fully realizes that she’s in great pain, and has been for a very long time))-which is the pitiful thing that is standing before them, with her subtly quiet cries for help, someone that simply keeps a mask on and continues playing her role as a good student because of how that troubesome feeling, slowly turns into something burdensome, and that burdensome feeling becomes genuine weight on her shoulders, pressuring her into going over her limits everyday, just to maintain her perfect student image.
For the third line “But why is my soul still throbbing now? (throbbing painfully)”, my theory for this is somewhat similar to what I said above, but I think it mainly has to do with the lack of introspection Mafuyu has for herself. By this, I mean, she speaks like someone who is still trying to grasp the concept of simple emotions such as happiness, saddness, anger, suffering, and whatnot. Because of her lack of introspection for herself, this causes a lot of confusion (I think this is best shown when we see the countless of times where Mafuyu describes the suffering she feels as, “The cold feeling in my chest,” or “Why does my heart feel heavy?” and “I feel cold,” things like that. This isn’t word for word, but it’s all I can vaguely remember for what she says throughout the story) and leads her lashing out (Flashback to the main story where Mafuyu became so angry she shunned herself from the rest of Niigo and had a whole debacle when the others came to Sekai to confront her), and that confusion leads her to wonder, “But why is my soul still throbbing now?”, because she hasn’t understood her emotions for the longest time, thanks to her obliviously indulging in her mother’s words, and has been working, doing, and speaking for someone who isn’t even actually her. It’s simply someone who’s like on autopilot mode, doing the working, talking, and moving out of habit and what she thinks people expect her to do, because she’s never done anything for herself, because that’s how her mother deliberately or not, shaped her out to be. She’s always been manipulated by her mother, and has been under her marionette strings for far too long.
I think Mafuyu is just a really compassionate person at heart, but has been manipulated and taken advantaged of by her mother for so long that caused her to become naive(?) and have this little introspection of herself.
11 months late to comment this lol, this just popped up on my recommendations one day and that segment was quite thought provoking and I just felt the need to give my personal silly speech about those 2 lines when I heard you say that you were confused about them.
I hope my information is correct and that I did not just spend half an hour yapping only to be talking absolute nonsense, thanks for reading gaiz!

this is SO good AND ALSO THE LIMBUS MUSIC FOR THE PART WHERE YOU BRING UP GREGOR SAMSA I LOVE ITTT
Thank youu!! AND LIMBUS SWEEP
I didnt go too far overanalysing the repetitiveness of the song because I was too busy excited about the conclusion of the confrontation(get her kanade!).But in all seriousness everything is amazing and seeing people who averanalyse things going crazy was an amazing experience and this event made me love kanade even more(my little one) and I really relate to the silent rage part of her character.
a little something i saw; kanade, ena, mizuki and KAITO all have mostly black-ish themed outfits while mafuyu's outfit is mostly white. this could reference the yin-yang symbol and mafumom thinking that the former three are sort of "bad/evil" while mafuyu is "pure/innocent".
I plaster an 👍 here to show support for your content and Sekai analysis. Although I don't play the game, I am generally impressed how many deep themes this game can show through their characters, and the symbolism they show.
Kudos!
Thank you so much!! I love the deep themes that are expressed as well!
Another great analysis fru! I always like to binge watch all your videos for fun-
There are many translations on the song, but I translated it myself and WOW. "The light is at the 1 am direction" -> indicating that mafuyus escape from her parents is n25. "I'll always be there for you, even if I'm helpless. Even your poisoned by the fringed flower." The fringed flower being mafumom.
"Now drag your tail and go on" = now hide your true personality and go on.
I loved the fact that this event was based off the German story about the cockroach, teniwoha did such a good job and I'm glad he released the full version cuz that will be fun to analyze!
This event was great, especially since this is the first time we actually see mafumom and we get a glimpse of her intentions.
I'd like to believe mafumom has had a childhood similar to mafuyu and is passing down the trauma. (Which wouldn't excuse her actions, it would just be an interesting concept.)
Another thing that backs up the theory above Is kanades card. Kanade is protecting the purple butterfly (mafuyu) and ij the backround you could see butterflies pinned down by nails. The butterflies represent mafuyus family and the ongoing cycle of emotional abuse. Not to mention the fact that the set is how mafumom sees n25? Whoever wrote this event needs a raise. I loved it so so much! We need mafuyu to snap in her new focus. PLEASE SEGA
i always love your analysis, as it's always so thorough and clear 💕the metamorphosis references are rampant, and i love how you connected the symbolism of the colours to real-world dangerous animals and plants. these are always so cool to watch! fru you are a genius :DD
this analysis is as peak as the event itself :D
thank you as always for helping us see the deeper things in this event~
i hope mfy manages to break from her mother's grasp soon
and hopefully, mafumom can also try to redeem herself but i really don't think it's possible atp :(
An another amazing video! It's so interesting how they made niigo in these cards look evil here and I dig it. Its also probably a reference to how mafuyu's mom sees niigo. Mkzuki is the one keeping her there by luring her in and keeping her there with candy. Kanade is the one keeping Mafuyu trapped(reference to the butterfly cage).
Overall I reaaalllly love this video!! Good job once again!
Thank you so much!! This is such an interesting set I agree.

so there’s a new mizuki event coming up and I think it’s either two things
-Mizuki mafumom meetup
-Mizuena’s story progressing

thank you for the analysis!!! one thing i kinda wish was included is the lyrics sung by the original before/after the translation read out because i think 25ji's vocals convey a lot of emotion on top of the lyrics :3 other than that i think what you've described in the card analysis is super close to what i thought as well!! kudos!!!

Your analyses keep showing how much the developers pay so much attention to little details and symbolism.
Your analysis are like my favorite
I'm like 9 months late, but I noticed a distinct similarity when it comes to Mafumom and Taiga, in that not only are they main unit antagonists, but they also correspond to being the most of a unit's theme. To explain it better:
MafuMom's main line of attack when manipulating Mafuyu is "regret" and how if Mafuyu doesn't act out certain actions or achieve certain things then she'll "regret" it in the future. And I see it as no coincidence that Nightcord's main theme is Regret. It may highlight how out of everyone present in the nightcord storyline, it's actually Mafumom who has the biggest regrets in life- it could even be her losing Mafuyu completely that could prove to be her biggest regret.
This also applies for VBS and Taiga, considering whilst VBS is passionate about surpassing Rad Weekend and doing everything they could to achieve that- Taiga has his goals set not just in japan, but of the entire world itself, considering he's still carrying the RADder's original vision of making the entire world listen to their music, which explains why there's such a far gap between him and everyone else in Light up the Fire, because their passions are only set in a local level whilst his eyes are on a global scale, making him the most passionate person in the entirety of VBS' storyline.
Edit: (Not me laughing like a madman when the VBS world Link pretty much confirmed my assumptions)

great vid 👷👷👷👷🥺🥺🥺🥺😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
SO TRUE
Almost every card of Mafuyu has Mafuyu eyes looks empty and dead and for some reason it makes me sad.
I added a comment to a completlwy different channel 😂
Completely*
Anyway I actually have a lot to say about kanade holding the lid. First off, I think that card design represents engeki and your what it means to be free video. I think that because kanades body language and face show her disgust for mafuyus mother. It also shows how she's trying to get the butterfly inside, aka mafuyu as far away from her mother as possible because she know her mother will completely destroy her, and that if the lid gets open, more of the apple gets exposed and bitten out of. The reason the butterfly is glowing is showing how mafuyus mom thinks she's perfect. The reason the butterfly isn't laying on the ground, giving up is showing many things. First that through all this pain, mafuyu is still trying to get out of the bottom, the emotionless, empty void and fknd herself. But because of her mother, she's trapped, which makes it seem like kanade is representing both of them. It's purple because mafuyus signature color is purple. The butterfly faltering is showing how mafuyu is almost ready to fall back down, to disappear and give up.
More in depth from my original thought of how kanade is representing herself and mafuyus mother, it pretty much describes an alter ego, even if she's not like mafuyus mom and has good intentions. That represents all of Niigo because they all half want to disappear and half keep going until they accomplish their goals. Also the back looks kinda like lots of framed science awards, which also shows the butterfly idea about how mafuyus mother has high expectations of her and thinks she's perfect. Maybe I'm thinking it too deep though. If I find any more ideas I'll comment.
