Just to add onto the video:
    - The gacha and the game is very separate
I mentioned this already but I wanted to reiterate it! You can really not care about the gacha or the characters or tributes and just play. Though if you really want to get score without the gacha or score characters, play in multiplayer rooms
    - The timing windows are actually quite strict at 2 frames (33ish ms)
It's generally the game people recommend to practice accuracy, especially coupled with the release timing windows and charting style.
    - The game isn't THAT complicated
But I was just talking about it in terms of a first impression (especially since their tutorial is pretty bad...). I understood how the attributes and upgrade items worked after awhile but it'll take some poking around. And generally if you don't care about gacha you really don't need to bother until you start wanting to pull characters for specific events.

Tbf no matter how "separate" or "non-intrusive" the gacha is for a game. I would never play it. Even if its free. Yes, ive not played Genshin or Tower of Fantasy. Sue me. Playing it encourages future games to go along with the gacha model of monetization without any compromise. Im glad that I have this mindset though so that I can appreciate actually better games that dont have the "monetize-first" mindset when making the game.

@tokaku actually jp ver has a ranked match system that unlocks after a certain number of Full Combo in Expert and Master. Its a 1v1 Match the cards doesnt matter because its a performance match, more Perfects = win. Its pretty fun even if japanese players are way to scary! You should try it

another way to get score without gacha is to play ranked match! That's a mode where gacha card stuff is disabled and you play 1v1 with others! It's currently only in the Japanese version though, it won't be added to the Taiwan, Korea or Global versions until March 2023

Something else to add. The song charts are "different". There are songs that might not get into global like bandori such as senbonzakura for their "wartime tune" in-song, etc. So if you want to play like every Vocaloid song or japanese pop song there is on the game, hit the japanese version instead
Also, what makes proseka better to play than other rhythm game is that the fact that the game rides with the song, not only beating properly with the song, just like chunithm but on mobile i guess?
Finally, is there no machine gun doll in global ver? That is basically the hardest song right now imo

in games like this gacha matters and doesn't matter at the same time.
it matters, because higher rarity character grants higher scores.
it doesn't matter, when you're just here for the music/beatmaps. You can still clear lv 34+ Master levels with low rarity character as long as you got the skill.
playing Easy difficulty beatmaps with high rarity characters will grant higher scores than when you FC Master difficulty beatmaps with low rarity characters

A little trivia about "popular j-pop" song: they don't just appear because it's popular; they are in project sekai for a reason!
-Eve was a vocaloid producer before, and most of his songs have miku version (he recently published his first Eve x Vocaloid album!)
-Ado is the vocal, but the main lyrics/composing/arrangements is from vocaloid producer e.g. usseewa is produced by syudou, and odo has DECO*27 as lyricist / Giga and Teddyloid as composer!
I think it's worth mentioning, since some of us might be confused why are there jpop songs in so-called "vocaloid game", they won't be there if it wasn't vocaloid-related!

for the story aspect, the main story doesn't really do the characters too much justice. they really shine in the event stories; delving into the characters' histories, secrets, and trauma

I think the pjsekai characters are some of the best rhythm gacha game franchise characters I've come across. They feel real and the writers are really in touch with their problems and struggles, they are flawed and (ALMOST.) none of them feel like a caricature, but rather like ACTUAL teenagers that have a multifaceted personality. Also I agree that they REALLY nail the event stories; I always look out especially for Akito x Tsukasa x Mizuki interactions bc seeing a guy that cares a lot about keeping the "cool guy" image slowly opening up to Mizuki and Tsukasa, who are considered the "weirdos" of the school is just too wholesome and fun

I think what makes project sekai more fun is what it does outside of the rhythm game or gacha aspect of it. The dev (well... The JP devs) is pretty in touch with the community, they constantly comission known Vocaloid artist to draw for project sekai, they comission vocaloid producers (some of which haven't make new songs for quite some while even years) to make the event songs, they held contest that promote new producers in the community and if you win the contest then you'll get your song in the game, they start doing QnAs in their livestreams, they got the in-game units to interact with fans (via Wondashow livestream, More More Jump 3D Idol Liveroom, and Nightcord at 25 Radio), and they also held actual in-game concerts with 3D models and all for the characters. The gacha part is still icky and the fanbase can be... Questionable, a lot of the times but i find it worth it~

A few things to add just on top of my head:
1: The range of difficulty is INSANE. Even people with no rhythm game experience think easy charts are too easy. And hardest master charts are testing the limits of human capabilities. So there‘s always room for improvement
    2. Not only can the note size change, the notes can form patterns, and even spell out words, which makes the chart even more fun
    3. The JP server has SO MANY MORE FEATURES. I played a bit on the Chinese server just to understand how the game works, then I moved to JP cuz there are more songs, more live options and generally more variety in the gameplay. Once you played the game for a while, just get JP version and try it out

    - at the moment, en has 3 songs that are not in jp. so, i would say the developers also cater to english vocaloid songs.

    Alright, time to do this.
    13:10 - 14:23
There's team composition when you play songs where different characters offer different benefits such as maximizing the score you can get and event points. There's also your total band power which you can get by leveling up specific area items, unlocking card's stories or leveling up the cards master rank.
Oh right I forgot to mention that the girls slash band members come in the form of cards which you pull from the gacha and like all gacha games you can't get the card you want depending on the season and what they have going on and is a roll of dice to what you're getting and they're sorted by the typical gacha star rating system of 1 to 4 in rarity and as to be expected the gacha percentages are low for good cards and then you have their own currency which is crystals that you can buy from their cash shop to pull characters or use their gacha tickets to pull characters.
And each card has a different skill and the better and rarer cards can have more than one skill. The five skills are scorers, perfect lockers, healers, perfect scorers, and life scorers which all do different things. Life scorers have the highest score boost when maxed, pscorers come second, and then scorers third. Healers and perfect lockers have a lower maxed boost but for healer teams they'll give you more health and you'll be able to last longer in a song so you can enjoy being bad at the game longer but the actual use would be for the cheerful carnival events having at least 1000 hp will give you more event points and perfect lockers will change good and bad notes into perfects for a short duration so you can flex your All Perfect scores without actually being good at the game and there are three things you can train your card in which is card level, skill level, and master rank.
You can increase the card's BP and get a mastery point by reading card stories and right, card stories can be read anytime from the card screen but they cost items to read and you'll only be able to read the first one and can only read the second one when you max out the card level which costs even more items. And then when you've read the card stories you'll clear character rank missions and oh right, character missions!
They're basically 9 missions you can do that contributes to the exp towards a character's rank which are the leader lives, card duplicates, costumes, stamps, area conversations, skill level, master rank, and side stories. It's a way to show your dedication to a character or a way for you to farm rewards like crystals and stamp exchange tickets or a character fan title whenever you increase your character's rank and if you want to level up a card you can do that by just playing songs normally and the exp gained is affected by how many boost you are using and the other way is to use exp sheets to level them up straight away in the lesson training screen.
If you have a 3 or 4 star card you can further train it over their max level limit by another 10 levels and unlock new card art but note when you do this you need to make sure the cards are at their max levels and you have enough attribute gems (and rainbow gems). Ah right I forgot about the upgrade materials, in general in the game you can get item drops when you complete a song and you can get upgrade materials from there to upgrade your cards but you can also buy them in the event shop or cash shop and the other items you can get are area items that also helps increase the power of your cards based on the characters, attributes and units and area items can be upgraded which would require coins and attribute pieces and attribute gems and wish drops and mysterious seeds which are all rewards you can get from finishing songs and completing missions and right, attributes.
They're different kinds of attributes cards can have and they're cute, cool, pure, happy and mysterious and they don't affect gameplay except being matched up with items of the same attribute that will boost them.
When you have a high enough band power of over 150,000 you can get to enter the veteran room where all the players there have high band power teams too and you get more rewards, and drops when you play there. But if you're not apart of the cool veteran club of people who have spent either way too much money or time getting high band power you can also boost reward drops by playing in the multi live instead of playing solo.
I also forgot to talk about events which are stuff that are time sensitive things which is why your game will force restart if the date is different from when you left the game and like every event and story gacha game, you'll be very familiar with this screen where you're always left wondering if you have enough space left on your device but basically events-

Something I want to add about how the gacha and the rhythm game are separate is that even though focusing only on the rhythm game will give you low scores, you will eventually get better teams anyway by doing the bare minimum on the gacha side (just pulling for cards you like with the free gems they give, leveling up your 4* cards with the items you get from playing and by having them on your team) so even if you ignore 90% of the gacha aspect you'll still end up with good teams and get S scores anyway

I would like to add a bit more on this as someone who have sunken into the rabbit hole that is the story and the gacha part of the game in almost 2 years.
    1. There are songs in the game that are commissioned for each event that focuses on a single group! Unlike the music shop songs, those are given out for free immediately or by the end of the event depending if it comes with 2dmv or 3dmv (respectively). The songs slaps so hard and the game even managed to pull some vocaloid producers out of hiatus (Toa and Picon are the ones I can think on top of my head).
    2. Oh the event bonuses, oh the events. As someone who tiers (getting as much event points as possible to rank high in the leaderboards) on events. it really do be note that the mechanics is a bit more complex now in JP than on EN, here are some differences if you somehow wanna hear prosekai gibberish
-master ranks would now give event bonus, this is mostly noticeable on 4 star and bday cards (yes, there are birthday cards, which skill and power-wise, is between 3 and 4 star cards)
-event bonus on group focus events does not require specific vocaloids, this actually starts after 1st anniversary soooo-
-rate up cards gives more bonus (70%) than just the typical card type+character bonus (50%), this also starts at 1st anniv
    3. Another thing to point out is that there is a game mode in JPsekai which basically allows you to do 1v1 with someone called Ranked Match. The Accuracy boosting cards are ignored in here and the game gives you a score based on your accuracy, whoever makes the least mistakes wins

    • @lrialthedreamer2276
      @lrialthedreamer2276 2 года назад +1

@@BS-se4yg to an extent yes, you can unlock most of the songs by skipping past all of the event and main story chapters to get music cards. However, especially on EN, these arent enough. At some point you would need to grind 1k event tokens which is easier than it sounds, as long as you have some 3 stars and most if not all of the initial two star cards it should be painless, just make sure the team you are using match either the event attribute, the boosted characters, or both, this does need gacha but it isn't a heavy mandatory, this is to redeem 10 music cards per event in the event shop!

I did start playing the game because I saw "Vocaloid rhythm game" and since Project Diva was basically dead, I played this specifically for the songs with no care for the new characters. Though, after reading one group story at a time, I think I had a better appreciation for the characters. Also, gacha is *not at all* necessary to read the story. The main stories can be completed by just playing with the default cards of a character from that group if you really felt like it, and the event stories can be read after the event has already concluded. The only gacha required stories are the side stories, which you won't be missing out on too much by skipping (but they're worth a read if you're invested anyways).

Been playing for around 3 months and honestly the gacha is super non-invasive and I do prefer it to the alternative of ads everywhere as someone who doesn’t spend. I like that each gacha pull feels worth it since the dupes let you raise other cards and the rate for a 4 star (not a specific character) is good enough that you can get a full team quick and score well.
The rhythm game part is really fun and multi lives are very addictive. What sold me on the game was actually the character writing. They all feel pretty multifaceted and unlike some other gacha games, they don’t shy away from unlikeable characters being pullable. Wouldn’t be the rhythm game I would recommend if you don’t like visual novels since it’s pretty much 50/50 (even if you can basically ignore either side).

I actually think the way Bandori is set up in some aspects is better than Sekai especially at the start because Sekai is a huge grind at the beginning. Of course after falling in love with Roselia, the Bandori group whose main motivation is to surpass the music created by one of the bandmembers' fathers, where part of the group comes off very unlikeable at first because they feel like a newer member is less serious about music and shouldn't be in the group, and where at this point in their story they're all kind of just chilling and being friends, I started playing Sekai and fell in love with VBS. I agree with most points made here, theres only 2 things that I disagree on, mainly because its more of a first impressions review, which are:
    - I personally feel like the storytelling is pretty neat, Ive finished the main stories for wxs, vbs and 25ji, and I found myself quite invested on the stories and characters, like I even started loving a character that I disliked before reading the story (Rui), so thats something I guess. I also tried unlocking the whole wxs story before reading and actually finished it in one go, which is surprising considering my short attention span.
-The other thing is with the scoring being dependant on the gacha, I feel like in this case we as a community dont really care about the score at all? Like you will never see anyone saying like "omg look I got a high score", we only rly care about the accuracy, so its just a thing you eventually get used to. Score only really matters on coop, but coop rewards also only matter if you are interested in the gacha.

thanks for the interesting and comprehensive video on the technical rhythm part of the game.
personally I may consider sometimes the tolerant hitbox (more than 1 lane wider than the note size) confusing when it comes to touching/overlapping notes (at the same time) or short trills (1 lane long at the middle) as sometimes they may make an unexpected note correspondence which leads to misses (bandori usually keeps a "safe distance" between notes to prevent that) though that's what they are using to create special patterns. (may be decouraging but not too bad as infinite retries are allowed)
flick notes: I saw from somewhere that they are judged by frame moving distance (instantaneous speed in short), so sometimes weird misses may occur. Also that no judgment is carried out outside the 12 lanes may affect flick experience (as the hitbox indicates it can be wider)
slide notes adapt a similarly strict timing window and do continuous judgments (just like osu sliders) so even with that wider hitbox it may be difficult to catch up accurately when it comes to large movements (also not to go outside the 12 lanes) (though it can be easier as it supports multiple fingers on a single slider)
(cheesing all perfect with plocks may not be that easy as the coverage is fixed (just like bandori) and not by time interval)
btw. I have not done any gacha (as it is not forced by tutorial) even after 120 master full combos (before Lv 60) as I only believe in guaranteed 4*. 100k+ jewels as of now so it seems not too difficult to gain the first 90k jewels (300 pulls) without an S score (just merely a B score) to begin with (just like bandori, a shared score reward but separated combo reward, so it looks more focused on the rhythm game part) (but unlike bandori, multiplayer score rank is still separated from one own's score rank)

Wow, thank you so much for this video. I had no idea this game existed, and as a big fan of Bang Dream, I already love it.
I don’t care very much about the gacha side, but the gameplay side is so good, and the fact you can fairly easily unlock any song in the game without paying any money is amazing.
I skipped through all the hundreds of event stories for the music sheets, and could buy almost 30 songs from the shop before I even played a single song lol. Incredible.

As a visual person, and a rythm game fanatic, I really struggle with these games (a lot), but proseka was one of those games (for me) that, even without the sound, you can FC songs, I don't actually know what the developers did differently to achieve this but thanks to that the game is really fun. The only thing that I didn't like aside from the gacha (which I skipped bc meh) was the fact that you had to play with specific members to unlock their group story, but to solve that I just watched the story on youtube.

Technically only one of the five groups is an idol group lol, but I can see how the game can give people that impression. Take out all the stereotypical gacha game factor (and/or anything Miku related, if you're worried about that) and you get a fairly decent rhythm game.

So it's almost the same as Bandori. Gotcha.
I'm getting bored playing Bandori and I want to switch to Project Sekai since there's a lot of songs, and some of my favorites are there as well. So I'm switching over. Guess I'm officially a Project Sekai player after this.

Hi, I've been a sekai player for like 3 months now and I wanna share my experience with the gacha.
The gacha in this game, while pretty unforgiving in terms of rates, is actually pretty nice. Most cards are basically the same but with different artworks, and you only have to get specific cards for events if you really care about ranking high or idk clearing 100% of the shop.
I personally just pick 3-5 characters I like and only roll on their banners (most of them are also from the same band so it's easier to get them), and for teams I just use my best score up characters that I have right now even if they're characters I don't care for.
I personally don't like the "cheater cards" (the ones that let you ignore accuracy for a few seconds) but after a lot of frustrating fc attempts where I choked or didn't hit in time because on global my offset is wrong by .5 (I need the more accurate offset sega please 😭) I learned to like them a bit. They're good to get fc on songs you grinded for a long time and know you can fc but just have terrible luck and keep choking and stuff. Even with 5 cheaters in the teams the skills aren't active for most of the game so you can't just fc a song you're bad at.
You can play the game without doing gacha, but you'll have a harder time getting rewards from events and won't have access to veteran co-op unless you somehow level up your overworld items thingies so much you get to 150k with only 1 stars (idk if that's even possible tbh, probably some veterans can do it idk)

The thing that I like about the JP server is that it is Gacha friendly by a lot (for me i think) because you still have a chance to get your favorite character/card other than the gacha itself/if you miss the event (By earning tickets through gacha). Which the EN server doesn't have yet. (Fking 12k on gacha and no 4 star)
The thing that I love about Prosekai is that the notes are actually so creative.

15:08 im not sure if it was different 10 months ago, but if you hold down on the item icon(rather than tapping) a brief description of the item's usage and where to get it pops up(notably a little vague ie "can be obtained from shows"). found that out on accident when i was tapping on the item, so it is a little confusing.

I started playing Project Sekai awhile ago and I’m a pretty casual player. Gameplay was a bit difficult at first because of the whole Good = Combo Lost thing, but I adapted. I haven’t read any of the event stories but the character’s personalities, interactions, design, and motivations really grew on me. It’s fun learning about these characters and it kinda just makes you wonder “Why?” Like once you start thinking about the small tidbits of info, it just makes you curious. At least, that’s how it is for me.

Honestly, the only reason I pay attention to the fluff about cards, skills, etc. is to get crystals. Levelling up cards and "reading" the stories are pretty much the only way to get some crystals consistently as a f2p (aside from event rewards and clearing a new song)

An idol game I think you should try, which is quite similar to Proseka, is Ensemble stars :D
Personally, it was a coping method for me after not being able to get Proseka, but then I got really into it.
The English release came out a few months ago (and can actually be accessed in sea region thank god ;v;)
It focuses on male idols, and the story is actually surprisingly dark at times, which is one of the reasons I love it! (stuff like cults, cannibalism, abuse, fun all around :))
I can't give a good review of the rhythm gaming since I'm no professional, but all songs can be accessed from the start! (and no timed holds woop)

For how I see this game, it’s pretty good for me. I don’t care about the gacha nor the fact you don’t get a higher rank after playing, I just play for the rhythm game itself. And, well, the charts are pretty good in my opinion, they’ve made me better at reading notes in the game, and as well as some other rhythm games.
Overall, the rhythm game side of this game is pretty good. Also, thanks for the flick note fact.

I’m someone who tries a lot of “idol” type games but I have trouble sticking with them for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I’ve been able to stick with project sekai though because the actual rhythm gameplay is so great. It feels so much more responsive than other mobile rhythm games I’ve played, I love that you can unlock songs at will, and the charting and use of flick notes is really great and doesn’t feel as clunky as some other idol games *cough* Bandori *cough*. Honestly it’s a really great game and I’d definitely encourage you to keep playing, it really grew on me.

i wanted to play a vocaliod rhythy game on the go so i first tried emulating psp and tried to play project diva. it kinda lagged, and also because i sucked at touch controls i needed to bring a stand, otg cable, mini usb cable and my dualshock 3 which wasn't really portable and kinda weird to take to school. and then i found about this game. the game was good but on my not good phone it lagged so hard i ended up buying a psp instead. nowadays i sometimes play it on my ipad but half of the screen is not visible because it's broken so i need to move the game to the functional part with jailbreak tweaks which isn't that ideal. which is kind of a shame since there were some songs that i really liked.

really good video! also imo the entire backbone of this game is vocaloid (or vocal synth in general), the people they commission or collab with for everything have some form of relation to the vocaloid community, be it artist or producer etc. most people join for the vocaloid stuff and then they see if they like the human characters or not. i've been playing since day 1 (on JP) as an avid vocaloid fan and i've honestly still read incredibly little about the characters, i just play the rhythm game because its vocaloid songs and the charting is generally really good. i dont really feel forced to gacha because its a lost cause lmao

This resulted me only focusing on the rhythm game part which is VERY FUN (ngl) and actually kinda helped me improve my Arcaea skill (somehow).
