    Love the sound of the OEM PSE. One of the reasons I specifically bought my C4S, widebody too. Added in the 200 cell cat bypass and a drop in KN Filter with factory air box. She now roars!

    I've always found that removing the rear bumper cover (add 15min-20min) improves access, visibility, and accurate fitment of the exhaust system and related hardware. I'm confident most viewers are working off a garage floor jack; and not under their $5k+ lift.

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  4 года назад +1

      We only used the lift for filming purposes. When I modified my original muffler and installed the aftermarket exhaust, I did at home on jack stands. Totally doable. Never thought about removing the rear bumper. Good tip!

    Nice video thank you very much, as i am just about to do the same on mine. Just a couple of things I would do differently though, is to replace both nuts/bolts with new as this will make it easier should you want to change it back, and also, and importantly i think, is to reverse the nuts/bolts for the pipe clamps so that the threaded parts are not pointing to down as this reduces ground clearance and looks a bit messy (you see this at the end of your video when your car is on the floor). Keep up with the vids, I always enjoy them and learn from them.

    Vu, I know this video was completed three years ago. I am about to start this job on my 996. I wondered what size bolt you replaced with a stainless bolt. Not sure if you remember that spec but I was thinking of just getting some nice stainless bolts ahead of the job. But if you don’t know… Will be making a run out to the hardware store when everything is apart! Keep up the great content!

      I don't remember, but I just did as you plan. My local hardware store has a good selection of stainless metric bolts, nuts, and washers. Good luck!

    Regarding the "White Collection", do Porsche make special white cars for the collection which are not normally available, do they repaint them, or do they not become part of the collection? I was thinking 911-50 is not available in true white and 997 anniversary edition is baby blue (?). I am sure there are a few more...

    Bit confused by video and hope someone can clarify. At 6.03 mins into video he removes the muffler along with the suuport bracket by removing the three 13mm bolts. However later in the video from 6.50 the support bracket is back on the car with both the long and short bolts that attch to the muffler removed. Is it possible to remove the long and short bolts from the bracket with it still on the car. There doesnt appear to be enough room to do this. There is a note that the bracket should be removed with the muffler as shown earlier so not sure why he bracket went back on the car to be taken off again. Why I ask is if the three 13mm bolts are seized is it possible to get the muffler off to allow better access to remove the seized bolts?

    If that's a Pelican Parts magnetic oil drain plug that you have installed (looks like the one I had), be very careful. Mine failed after three or four oil changes. I went to torque it back up to 50Nm and it just kept spinning. Turns out that the metal (aluminum, I think?) let go where the threads meet the sealing face of the oil pan. Luckily I still had my factory drain plug on hand to replace it with.
    [Edit:] Not throwing shade at Pelican Parts. Everything else I've bought from them has been great. I'm sure it's not their fault. Maybe their supplier for the magnetic drain plugs had a bad run or something... Just be cautious and always have a spare.

    • @jamdc2000
      @jamdc2000 4 года назад

      Wasnt 50nm too much torque?

    • @shreedevi2005
      @shreedevi2005 4 года назад

      @@jamdc2000 50Nm (37 ft lb) is the number as per the manual but I find also find it is too much and my porsche mechanic also seems to think so. I have gotten away with around 25-30Nm for many years now. That said, the magnetic drain plug from pelican sheared off when I tried to loosen it after only a couple of oil changes. So I have long since switched back to the regular drain plug.

    • @512TXSDIY
      @512TXSDIY 4 года назад

      motonut Good point. I usually only torque mine to 30 ft lbs. because 37 feels too tight.

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  4 года назад +1

      Yes, same drain plug. Torque spec on the new plug is 19 ft/lbs or 26 Nm, probably because it is aluminum.

    I'm struggling to adjust my c4s tailpipe and where it points. It's not even so might be that the clamp is seized?

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  2 года назад +1

      It could be that the clamp needs a bit more effort to move due to corrosion. Hard to say without seeing it in person.

    Really appreciate your support for us 996 lovers. My 2000 C4 has a TechArt Header & Muffler system thanks to a prior owner. One reason I bought this car 10 years ago. But it is quiet to comply with Euro limits. Following your move to the PSE mufflers, I hope a $100 weld pipe patch at my local Muffler shop to my TechArt Muffler will give me that PSE sound. I am going to have them replicate the PSE pipe. Any reason you did not do this? Regard, Jack in Seattle.

    @the_producer 4 года назад +1

    Good vid - IMO it kind of defeats the purpose of the somewhat difficult to source a used OEM PSE if you're not going to hook up the valves though. A fister style mod would achieve a similar effect. I'm just jealous because I've been looking for an OEM setup for ages.

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  4 года назад

      Hi Brad, I did the Fister style mod to my original mufflers. It sounded close but certainly not the same. I chose not to hook up the valves because I personally would never want it in the quiet mode. Keep looking, they are out there and they are worth it IMO.

      @@PorscheClubofAmerica i know! my previous 996 had it, and i miss it very much. Current car had too many other desireable options to pass, so i've been on the lookout for a used setup to retrofit. When I do I will certainly reference this video. Thanks Vu

    Looks fairly easy but looking at the one spark plug / coil pack was very easily accessible, what about the other 2 on that side, you didn’t show obviously to keep the video short but can you explain how to fit your socket in the middle to get that spark plug out. From the video perspective it looks like impossible with a socket, Is it easy?
    Can you give some insight on those. Thx Awesome sound btw

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica

      The other two are just as easy to remove. You might need an extra socket extension but nothing out of the ordinary.
