Won't you reintroduce air into the back of the master if you allow the pedal to return before tightening the master fittings (when priming pump)? Shouldn't you open fittings, push pedal down, close fittings, release pedal?
Proper way would be to fill both reservoirs, loosen the fittings on the outlets of both front and rear masters, and install two clear hoses submerged in brake fluid and pump the pedals till the masters are evacuated of any air.
