- Howdy! guys and gals. Wavey and I were blessed enough to meet Dave Seng, a 17 year employee of the Army core of engineers and lock master (amongst many other related jobs.) We had him over to the Shanty Boat for dinner in Paducah to ask him some questions about the lock and dams on the riverways of America. We could have kept him for 8 hours straight, but kept it to about a half hour. I hope you enjoy.
See you over on Back Waters and Back Roads
What a great interview. Dave is a great ambassador for the lock and dam system. I look forward to travelling this route in a couple of years. Keep up the fantastic videos!
Some cool info, even though I've been through a few locks on the Mississippi I didn't know a whole lot about them. Wavey being such a good girl.❤
Very interesting interview. Thanks for sharing 👍
That was a very interesting interview Dave very accommodating and well spoken and enthusiastic. Making it an engaging and informative video. The 30 minutes went quickly.
Neat to get the other perspective. Here in tulsa we are connected with a port and navigational channel that connects with the Mississippi.
I visited the local lock it has a visitor center and platform for watching the operations.
Took the kids, very mesmerizing to watch the tugs float up out of the pit.
I like your side adventures and interviews.
Blue
Thank you. Dave was very kind of take the time and tolerate the beagle using him as a chew toy ;)
Just a few videos ago you didnt think lock masters liked you. Now breaking bread with one.love it.
Great interview Push tugs are supposed to be number one most efficient way to move goods then trains and truck
Absolutely enjoyed your interview with Dave, Brenton. Well done! Looks like Wavey enjoyed the company as well!
Good stuff, thanks.
Very nice interview. I know of people that drop off a beer, soda, or a goodie bag when they leave The lock for the lock Master or employee working The lock
That's a good idea! I might start doing that at Pickwick;)
Awesome interview!
Very interesting interview!
Cool information. I wanted to work for the corp when i was going through boot camp for the Navy but i went down the wrong path, made bad choices.
It is truly amazing how much product goes up and our rivers. The average joe thinks it is all from trucks and trains. Great interview
👍❤️✌️🙏🇺🇸🛵🚣♂️
The interviews are great. You should have this on your regular channel. It's part of the loop adventure.
It's sometimes a toss up as to where to put a video buddy. One like this might disrupt the almighty algorithm on BWBRs :) I also had to render it in low resolution, which further messes with the overlords. Dave is definitely interesting enough to be top billing;)
This video was awesome! I am on a crazy backroads and backwater binge. thanks for the in depth content. just when I thought I've seen them all, I find an interesting nugget like this
Thank you for finding us and sticking around John. New loop video today around 5pm on Back Waters
Very good
I wish that I had seen this video when you first did it. I've found over the years that the guys who are Lockmasters, are good folks. On the cost of the Olmstead L&D, it was supposed to be like a 10 to 15 year build, it took around 30 years and I seem to recall seeing that it's final cost came to something like $30 BILLION, far beyond the original cost estimate. I also think that it was the most expensive program that the USACE ever has had. Like Biden or not, in the big infrastructure bill he got through Congress a few years ago, a big chunk of money was finally allocated to do much of the long deferred maintenance work on Corps of Engineers Locks and Dams.
Ita amazing the Biden administration has funded anything other than Isreal and Ukraine
Great interview 👍
Morning!
That was interesting glad you got to ask all the questions that we all have with him.
pretty good info
sweet !
Great interview Brenton, keep up the adventure!
Nice interview, enjoyed it! Wavey seemed thrilled to have a guest to 'entertain' as well!
Human chew toy ;)
Thanks for this interview! I have camped at COE campgrounds when my wife and I were full-time in the RV and enjoyed the beautiful lakes they all had. Never knew about the lock system until I started following you and Wavy.
Be safe and have fun!
Wavey be good or Santa paws won't come * lol ....🤩
That's right ;) she was chewing the poor fella up like her own personal chew toy!
lol awe she is forgiven

Enjoyed your video, keep ‘em coming. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Im in New Richmond Ohio 30 miles east of Cincinnati, i like to ride my motorcycle to meldahl lock and dam
They have some good folks who work at Meldahl. I used to lock through Meldahl quite often when I did trips up from Cincy to Augusta, Maysville or Ripley. I love New Richmond. I almost bought a little place up north of town on 132.
@@michaelgarrity6090 I'm in a trailer park on 132
😎
This is so interesting… I’m a huge fan of COE camp grounds but didn’t know much about the lock & Dam process the COE does… thank you for this information and his interview
I think wavey made a freind.
