    Hi how long does it take from germination to forming the first set of new leaves? Mine germinated two weeks ago but doesn’t seem to grow further

    Hello, do you have any tips for germination And growing small manuka Plants Indoor? I have ordered 10 grams of seeds And want to try put into growing tent under the LED light. Please do you know which temperature And humidity range Is recommended? Thank you for video.

      I have not grown indoors under lights, but it would be similar to a poly house or propagator. An ideal temperature range would be 20-25 Celsius, soak the tray after seeding and water gently from the top when it's visibly dry. Cycle the lights so they have a 'night-time' of at least 8 hours a day. You could also try a tray in a sealed propagator under lights. Move them into open air after a few months. Good luck!

      If there are mānuka plants in your area you can find them and collect the seeds! ruclips.net/video/u3jqWfk-o-M/видео.html, otherwise there are sellers online and on trademe in NZ, best to have a look around online and see what is available.

    Thank you so much for these very helpful videos. Can you advise on the planting of KANUKA as well? Similar approach, or does one plant the tiny seed pod directly from the plant? I have gathered seed pods, possibly too green, and am eager to get to work!

      apologies! No need to answer. I've just rewatched your video, and heard you say what I had missed before about the technique being the same for both plants. Off I go!

      The method for Kanuka is the same as Manuka. Kanuka seed pods open on the tree and then shed the empty pods. When you find Kanuka pods, shake them to see if seeds come out and then gather a bunch of pods and follow the same growing steps as Manuka. The pods are much smaller and the seeds tiny, but grow well! :)

      @@FarmsToForests Delighted to have itsy bitsy plants sprouting right now, but I am fearful that I am not managing these well. A fortnight along, and they are still at the minuscule 1mm dot stage. I wonder sometimes if I am just seeing progressive sprouting and the tiny sprouts dying off and being replaced by new seeds opening. Could you give some details on the management of the trays at this delicate stage?

      @@annemariejutel2608 They do tend to seem like they are slow growing at first because they are so small, but they are probably doubling in size every few weeks, so in a few months they will be noticeably larger and then will take off. They are trees, so are much slow than vegetables for instance and also the seeds are so small. Just keep them out of direct sunlight and don't let the soil dry out is probably the best advise. Good luck!!!

      @@FarmsToForests Ah, you give me such hope! I will stop being impatient and trust that they are growing. The paddock, indeed the region, in which the paddock is located, haven't seen a local manuka in decades. The seeds come from plants that have survived two seasons in on my fields, and were from the other side of the hills, so not that far away (Strath Taieri). fingers crossed!

      If you follow the instructions you will grow some plants for sure. I'm not sure how well suited they are to your environment. but once established are hardy so there's a good chance!

      @@kevinsetiawan5110 The plants are very adaptable and grow in most soil types in highland and lowland areas. Often thriving in poor quality soils. If the PH is high you can lower the PH. In terms of growing the seedlings, for sowing you can add a layer of high quality seed raising mix on top of screened potting mix for better germination. And good quality potting mix when potting on to bigger pots/trays.

    What is the best ph soil for Manuka ?

    • @FarmsToForests
      @FarmsToForests  2 года назад

      Neutral pH. Mānuka grows very well in low fertile soils but grow particularly well in fertile soils that are well drained and have a neutral pH. A pH of between 4.5 and 6.5. is good. If pH is above 6.6 add horticultural sulfur to lower the pH.

      my manuka is in a pot in the soil for a pH 3.5-4.5 and when I transplanted to this soil, the manuka dropped a flower, whether it could be because of too low ph or because of changing places because it happened when I got manuka?

    • @FarmsToForests
      @FarmsToForests  2 года назад +1

      @@arekarek769 The plants are very resilient to different soils and grow well in poor quality soils. The most important thing is not to disturb the roots when transplanting. Loosening the roots or root ball is the most common mistake.

    A question
    1-how long is it estimated to develop roots, with the cuttings procedure. Do you have any estimate? To transplant later, rooting for cuttings is it useful?
    Any recommendations that you can give me on the procedure of cuttings in leptospermum? web, pdf, whatever. Greetings from Buenos Aires

    • @FarmsToForests
      @FarmsToForests  2 года назад

      Cuttings from mānuka can be difficult to master. Take semi-hardwood cuttings in Autumn, 5-10 cm from the tips of branches. Use rooting hormone. Most importantly grow in propagation mix, which is usually coarse sand/tiny stones, growing cuttings in soil wont work well at all. Keep in a humid environment, a humidly dome or container will work and mist to keep humid. Roots can take a long time to form, 4-8 weeks. Transplant into small pots or trays when there is a few cm of roots. Mostly mānuka is grown from seed as it is much more efficient with excellent results. Cuttings usually only taken if the plant has very good genetics and you are wanting to create clones, or for plant aesthetics and hybrids that don't grow true from seed.
