  • I was really impressed by the design of this tent and have actually "spoken" via email to the designer Nick who was adamant that if any flaws should present then I was not to edit them out.
    Actually the tent was flawless but I did manage to burn some small holes in the fabric through my own error.
    Firstly I was burning very sparky wood (Larch) and secondly the chimney I used was not tall enough, so I can't blame this on the tent.
    Here's an email Nick sent me:
    Hello Sandy,
    I truly appreciate how quickly you tried it out, and it brings me great joy that someone likes the tent I personally crafted.
    Although I haven't seen the content, I won't ask you to modify it because your testing is genuine, and I appreciate authenticity.
    Thank you, Sandy.
    Let's just go ahead and make it public.
    Nick
    Hill Zero Designer
    I believe this tent represents Incredible value for money

    I'm catching up Sandy. Very interesting to see the new shelter and crickey that's bad luck with the embers!
    What a cracking stew, and Marina and I always love to see your cooking and how appetising it always looks. Great to see the Jacklore too this time.
    Hope the next camp is a tad dryer for you. Keep safe. Best wishes. P & M

    I read in the news today that our population is almost at 70 million. I sometimes worry that we won’t be able to enjoy a bit of solitude in the future, due to overcrowding and people everywhere. Still on a positive, I think that’s a cracking tent. It’s nice to be able to stand up in a tent, stretch the legs. Big enough for a mate to share with you. You seem impressed with it, that says a lot about a product. Have you got any snow drops out over there? We got daffodils and snowdrops appearing already spring spring is not far away now. Cheers ATB Andy

      Well there are lots of hot tents on the market these days made of nylon/ plastic and all are susceptible to ember burn holes, infact I have even seen some cotton canvas tents in videos from campers in Canada and even these have war wounds but only after many years!

    Great camp, everything lugged on the bike, well done!
    I had to laugh at all that veg, enough to feed a horse lol!
    One tip, I reckon if you fry & brown you onion, the flavour is better, or at least I think it is.
    Pity about the melt holes, maybe carry some gaffa tape, duck tape whatever its called, good for no end of temporary repairs.
    Sorry about your car, that's the trouble with diesel. My old chum used to say if you want a diesel buy a tractor lol, so I stick to petrol, all my cars being 3rd or 4th hands but have kept me on the road for years. All the best ,God bless & keep you!

    You can get a doodar that hooks onto your centre pole for hanging the lanterns on, dead easy to copy
    I found some extra 2mm stainless mesh in the top of the pipe before the spark arrestor helped when burning softwood.
    Nylon and flying embers just don't mix very well, if you can burn hardwood you're laughing

    Hi Sandy 👋🏻👋🏻. Another great video. You make it all look so simple 😄. Boy oh boy it looked windy, I was concerned that the wind would get under the snow flaps and fly off into the woods. Should have known that you’d realize and put some wood on the flaps to keep the tent grounded 👍👍👍.

      Raising the stove a bit may have helped Marty but a longer stove pipe is the answer. My smaller onetigris hot tent made from the same material hasn't had a single burn hole in 2 years. Just because the stove pipe is that much further away from the tent. I shall have to find some fabric and fix the holes:)

    Hi Sandy. I noticed straight away and was surprised when you pitched the tent with the door pretty much facing into the wind. Had the door been facing the woods the embers will have been blown away from the tent rather than over it. Mind you, the whole idea of the wood burner and lanters in a tent freaks me out 😮. That actually looked and performed like a pretty well made and well thought out tent Sandy. It is a pity that the embers burned some holes in the material but it is repairable and as you said maybe some taller chimney in the future might reduce that tendency. I think that the tent deserves some consideration from anyone looking for an option for camping in a hot tent. If you forget your eating utensils enough times in the future, you will eventually become a master carver (like your friend Dino) lol. It did the job though, the food was successfully transported from the pan to your mouth without any major incidents. Thanks for sharing that fantastic camping adventure with us, I will see you on the next one.

    It is really annoying when you get spark damage. I used Stormsure Aquatite on the toaty holes as really flexible/ clear and cut a piece of the strap to make a small patch in same material to cover a larger hole. Aquatite stuck it down well. Same thing my flue was not long enough and I used a piece of dried scrap from B&Q! It hissed and spat in the stove, so my own fault. I believe they say the spark arrestor should be at least a meter above the apex. I had 2'6" so thought it would be ok! Its great being able to walk in and move about. You did brilliant getting that all on the bike ❤

    My attitude to tents…. A Buyers guide…
    A 1 man tent = a glorified bivvy bag [you can’t move without rubbing on the inside and getting soaked from condensation running down the walls]
    A 2 man tent = sleeps I and also has room to manoeuvre inside and store your kit.
    A 3 man tent = sleeps 2 and can probably sit up inside it, [luxury for 1 man]
    A 4 man tent = sleeps 3 at the most and maybe able to actually stand up inside it. [luxury for 2]
    😂😂😂

    You do get sent some 'stuff', all very nice. I never get anything, but have always tried to keep my channel nice and small. It was quite funny seeing you with all that space...

      Hahaa Bry, I have another Ebike here, it arrived yesterday, this one is a keeper for me. Got to make a video about it.
      I have earned more the value of products sent to me than what YT pays but I have also turned down a lot of stuff that I thought wasn't good.

    A tentipi also has snow flaps, which are tucked inside the tent & pegged down when not in use, but it does also have air intake vets at the base for the stove. The groundsheet overlaps the flaps.

    that's a real nice tent, Sandy. as far as it not being the same quality as a hilleberg, well , personally, I can't imagine those tents being worth the price they want for them. no small tent is worth 800 or 900 dollars, there is just no way.

      @WiltshireMan ok my mistake, but I've heard guys on there mention that name and talk about tents that were 800 and more. what tents were they referring to , I really don't want to have the wrong facts when I say something. your friend Paul was one of them that mentioned ultra light tents in that price range. I don't want to sound like an idiot by talking stupid shit

      @WiltshireMan Sandy I have a picture I would like to send you and it will answer the question of why I thought hilleberg tents cost 900 dollars. it's an ad from a archery and outdoor shop here in the states and the advertised tent was a hilleberg soulo for 925.00

    I have never been a fan of plastic (of any type) tents designed for a stove in them. Trouble is cotton tents of that size weigh a ton!
    Have you thought of a trailer for your bike so it might be easier to carry stuff?

    I’ve had the same issue with burning holes in my lavvuu, though in my case I had no spark arrestor, and pipe was way short, so I’ve aquired longer pipe and a spark arrestor, hope this helps me, not to burn holes. Oh I forgot to say, I’ve also sprayed in a mixture of water borax and boric acid, ya, coated the lavvuu with that, it’s supposed to be a fire retardant.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  6 месяцев назад +1

      Boric acid should have that effect, I have used it to coat knife blades during heat treatment, the trouble is if it gets hot it will turn into a brown/ black solid mess and be difficult to remove

    Great vid Sandy! Bit of tenacious tape for those holes maybe? .. did you find out what that loop on the pole was for? I imagined for a lamp or hanging damp clothes or something onto? .. re the chimney height, I saw a bushcrafter with similar tent, and a hammock hot tent, and he precariously balanced his whole stove ontop of a camping table, now i see why.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Mick,
      No I don't know how to use the thing on the pole, I shall have to look into it. I think stove pipe does need to be taller

    If you had a Lavuu that size, it wouldn't succumb to hot embers, but it would probably weigh around 10kg ! 🥘 Good to see you out on another camp cooking up something tasty.

      I've got a Bison Tundra Steve, similar size, maybe perhaps just a bit bigger but a heck of a lot heavier, there's no way I could get it into camp on a push bike

    Thanks for the video. I weighed my Lavvu last week and it is 3.5 kg, the same as your tent. Obviously smaller but spark proof. Did you find out what the clip on the pole was for ? 👍

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  6 месяцев назад

      I haven't managed to work out how the clip works.
      My Polish Lavu is heavier than yours because I have sewed a skirt all around the base making it taller, this gives a lot more room. Hope to use it on my next camp soon
