Heck this concert here contradicts their biggest thing about saying she always wanted to cancel concerts for no reason. She sang this concert with a flu and throat infection and could speak during morning rehearsals.
The big issue was she married someone not named Tuomas. She married the guy that saved her when she was attacked at the Guadalajara concert. Same guy that consoled her when she was crying in a heap after the show, while the band left her. Jukka and Sami both have mentioned it.
Then of course giving her the letter, telling her not to open it till the next day so they could get their story out first.

Fully agreed! I'd prefer the live shows from Wembly and Tampere, respectively. Marko has a beautiful voice. When Tarja had left and the band had agreed to go on, Marko was at first supposed to do much more lead singing, these 2 songs were intentionally written for him. Then in 2007 Swedish singer Anette was attracted, for backing and some lead vocals. She was a fine singer, but the full epic sound that Tuomas had begun developing was quite much for her. Nightwish did some tours and albums with her. Then, during a world tour in 2012, Anette became il and she was pregnant. Then, in only 48 hours, Floor was hired to replace her and continue the tour. The rest is history...

I don't remember any band shining in this specific genre before (but maybe thats just because i was 20 at the time nightwish started.). Yes, that's the original singer, Tarja (Floor is the third).
Note that it's not just dress and microphone that is color matching, the mic-stand is also color-matched!
Tarja was known for often changing dress a few times during performances and often matching mic & mic-stand to the dress but they went the extra mile here for the final concert of the tour and in front of their home crowd! IIRC she used 5-7 different dresses and 4-5 microphones and mic-stands, the full concert is available so if someone cares they can check.
There had been rumors that Tarja wanted to take a pause (IIRC for further study, meaning at least 1-2 years), this is another reason why you're seeing some of the crowd crying.
Instead it was her last performance with Nightwish, everyone else on the stage knows except Tarja!
There's lots of discussions about what role (if any) Tarja's husband played in that (he had become her manager a while earlier) and whether money was involved, I'm not going to touch that part.

It's a superb performance by Marco, I think it's the single best performance he has ever done during his Nightwish years. About Tarja, she was the lead vocalist they started with in 1996, she was not with the band anymore after this gig in 2005, somewhat fittingly called "End of an Era." From the songs you've reacted to so far, Ghost Love Score was released in the album Once in 2004 so it was originally composed for her to sing with her dark, operatic voice.
Several of the songs that are very well loved up to this day as versions sung by Floor originally came from the Tarja era. In addition to GLS these would include songs such as Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean, Dead Boy's Poem, Ever Dream, Bless the Child, Dark Chest of Wonders, Wish I Had an Angel, Nemo, and many others... Old Nightwish songs have a different flavor compared to the latest stuff, but the common thread is that they've always produced very good music that one can listen to for years upon years.

This was Nightwish's first singer Tarja Turunen - who was fired very publicly (really no person should be fired publicly like that). The result of HOW she was fired led to a HUGE backlash against Tuomas (the keyboard player and main band member who writes the music). This led to a deep depression, ultimately leading him to write the song "The Poet and the Pendulum" - a very emotional song. Floor gives it great justice, but it is hard to listen to every time.
Tarja was an excellent singer (well, is an excellent singer - solo artist now). There are several songs that only she performed. Several songs that Floor performs are really only ones she could do because she can draw heavy deep breaths. Tarja came to the band before it was a metal band, and the switch is very ironic. They were a folk band, she was an classical/opera style singer and the band became symphonic metal. It has turned out to be something inspiring other people.
The first stage performer of "Christine" using the music we hear today of "Phantom of the Opera" is Sarah Brightman in Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage musical. She was married to him at the time. She had a great voice, but some like others. One has to keep a couple of things in mind: 1) "Phantom of the Opera" isn't now/never was an opera. It's a musical. As such, it never required a high tone soprano. Originally Brightman sang with Michael Crawford - whose voice was at times higher than Brightman's, however Brightman reached high notes at the end for drama. You should listen to it here: ruclips.net/video/ipsZhMjCc-A/видео.html - but after hearing the song sung by Tarja and Floor it's hard to compare. You have to understand the context in the performance - The "phantom" had another agenda and when "Christine" reached the high note in the song, the "phantom" was killing her boyfriend with a chandelier. Definitely watch the entire musical with Brightman or Sierra Boggess to get the best view. There are a fabulous array of songs in this musical.

Tarja Turunen (-2007), the singer of this video, sound much more opera like then the other two. Annette (-2010 or 2011) the 2nd singer has much more metal like voice though she is very good. But Floor (officially joined in 2013 but was present before), the 3rd and actual singer, she can do all the stuff from growling metal voice to opera, all very very good.

Thought that could also have been a preference of Tuomas (the keyboard player) who is also responsible for most of their compositions and arrangements. Note you also have seen two different drummers. BAsically speaking with Tarja they became famous this is what ppl think is Nightwish and then came interesting times and now with Floor it's different but still Nightwish but with a singer who incorporates more different styles than what Tarja did. But her operatic style in the beginning made it unique and popular so ...

This concert was from 2005. The operatic-style vocals of Tarja Turunen defined the sound of Nightwish for their first five or six albums (I'm still slightly confused about whether some of the Nightwish CDs I have were albums or EPs.)
I have seen only one good answer to the question of who's the best Nightwish singer : Marko.

  • @Zozo-K-
    @Zozo-K- 2 года назад +1

This is Tarja, the first vocalist for Nightwish. She sang this operatic style pretty much all the time. The second singer, Anette, was a pop/rock singer and she struggled with some of the older Tarja-era songs. Floor can do it all. All three were/are great in their own way, but for me Floor is the most versatile. For more of Marko (bass player) singing lead…listen to While Your Lips Are Still Red live at Wembley , or The Islander live at Tampere. You’ll be surprised all over again. The guy playing keyboards is Tuomas, the leader of the band who writes most of the music and lyrics.

No, you just heard one of the most operatic songs Nightwish has. But there's many levels and styles of classical vocals she sings: it's not all operatic. She also sings contemporary style, breathy vocals (I suppose that could be called falsetto) and most often mixing classical and contemporary styles in the songs. Like here, "Kun joulu on" ruclips.net/video/8uU0PaDAm0Y/видео.html quite contemporary vocals, "Feliz Navidad" ruclips.net/video/Afjgsb_GAxo/видео.html very much contemporary, although at times slight classical quality too. For her two last albums they infact changed her singing style for many songs, to more contemporary style, away from bel canto style. If one listens "Sleeping Sun" both music videos, one can hear clear style change in singing: they rearranged the song for new vocals in 2005, and also made new music video for it.

Marko is a one of a kind magnificent vocalist and this duet ranks as one of the best of all time in any style. Andrew Lloyd Webber said THIS was his favorite version of his own song.
The only duet more intense that I know is Lara Fabian and Johnny Halliday "Requiem pour un fou", watch the live Paris in the rain version. It's the most metal thing you will see that isn't metal.

Hey there! Tarja and Nightwish huge, long-time fan/addict here! lol. I just came across your channel and I'm very much enjoying your reactions, you've got a new subscriber right here and thumbs up! Well, this is Tarja Turunen, the first NW vocalist and co-fouder of the band, she is a classically trained soprano and very talented as you see, and was their lead singer from 1996 to 2005; I guess by now you already know quite a few things on the NW lore and history, so I'll just skip that part. lol BTW did you know Tarja was sick with a severe throat infection during this concert (called End of an Era, her last one with NW)? She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍Remember this everytime you react to this concert (which I hope you do soon lol)
Anyhow, thank you for this reaction, Ioved it and appreciated what you respectfully pointed out! Don't worry, I don't think you hurt anyone's feelings ahaha, and I say this being not only a huge NW fan but also a hardcore Tarja fan (or Tarjaholic, as some would call us ahaha). I mean, even though I think she's very unique and brought NW to a whole new level combining her stunning dark, absolutely beautiful and powerful operatic vocals (her timbre I must say is rare and uncommon even into the classical music universe) with Tuomas' genius, I love, respect, support and appreciate all their singers as the equally great, amazingly talented artists they undoubtedly are in their own different ways and rights (that's a fact only the blind don't see, all else is just a matter of personal taste and preference imo), for each of them brought special and individual elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity. I enjoy NW's music from all eras with all three lead singers they had because they're an incredible band, an epic, extraordinary, legendary group that through their Music have created a magnificent otherworldly realm!!! Pure magic! As a fan, I strongly believe we are blessed to have witnessed three amazing talented ladies fronting NW and should just enjoy the gift the whole band deliver us with their timeless Art, and I think we should be grateful and feel honored for that, regardless of our personal preferences.
Anyway, you're right, 'twould be unfair to compare Tarja and Floor, both ladies are amazing, insanely talented and equally good in their own ways and rights, just very different and everyone is entitled to have their own personal preferences; besides they're long-time friends and very supportive of each other. And you're actually right in some extent, at that point in time (Tarja was still at her 20s btw) they were more "operatic" symphonic metal much due to Tarja's classical singing style with a very unique, distinctly dark quality to her voice - she was actually the reason why they became a heavy metal band in the first place. It's important to ackowledge a few things though: NW's style had no precedents back then, they are pioneers in this field, building the pathway of the symphonic metal, so all of them, including Tarja, were still discovering and experimenting on their own what could musically be done, and Tarja set the tone in the genre inspiring many other symphonic metal bands and singers who came after and already had a starting point with NW. Also there was some kind of agreement between Tuomas and the other members that they wanted to fully explore this specific dark "operatic" quality of her voice and even a more mystic distant presence (in her solo career she's much more energetic on stage, much more herself) to see where they could go with it, and this only for their first 3 albums (during which she was actually in the middle of her classical singing studies), after that he gave her more freedom to explore a wider scope of her vocal colours, which while with NW she only began to do before she was fired, but just through her long, vast succesful solo career she could really improve other tecniques. So yes, Tarja is much more versatile now at her 40s than she was at her 20s, and while her classical singing tecnique is still her biggest strength imo, she can do many other things with her voice using that very tecnique, and not in a mainstream, stereotyped way. Should you wish to see how she was starting to experiment with her voice in her final times with NW, I recommend you to react to "The Siren" ( ruclips.net/video/LUy8T_3kieI/видео.html ) where you get to hear different layers of her singing she rarely used while with them, apart from her ramarkable dark operatic vocals she also gives us a soft, drawing, mystic almost ethereal voice, and a moment in which she sings in a sort of arabic/gypsy chanting style, all in one song, beautiful; and to "Slaying the Dreamer" ( ruclips.net/video/tFSqaLKXzwY/видео.html ) where there're moments when she uses a sort of belting, plus she headbangs really hard, it's awesome 🤘. All this brings me to another subject...
I noticed you didn't react to Tarja's solo stuff just yet. I'd like to encourage you to do so (apart from continuing your NW reactions), for she's been on the road solo for a long time (since 2006) with a very successful career that deserves more attention, her work is different from anything you've seen, creative and overall mindblowing, and is full precious gems for you to find out! Plus 'tis inspiring how she's constantly improving herself as an artist and a person. Thus I hope you're taking suggestions from the comment sections, for I have plenty lol. Tarja's Music is another epic, life-changing journey, as much as NW's. So I'd love to see you reacting to her (she's been doing a beautiful work), because since she started her solo career she's finally free to be fully herself, you know, without the "shackles"... and definitely is much happier, ever growing and maturing vocally and artistically through the years; she is simply a fantastic, hard working, super talented and phenomenal artist (who's sometimes a bit underrated by some unfortunately), a remarkably beautiful soul too! She's such an amazing artist, so creative and expressive, she plays the piano (since she was 6 actually), and became a noteworthy songwriter/composer as well (yes, most of her songs are written and composed by herself), and I love her stage presence and energy too, she owns the stage. She's truly one of a kind! I got to see her live once a few years ago and man!, what a mesmerizing voice and presence! She draws in every person in the audience always, and controls the crowd without having to say a word, almost like a spell, like she's always connected in an almost spiritual level, we feel that and she does too, and knows how to use it! The videos can capture a glimpse of that power, but seeing her live... Wow, it's an entirely different experience! I think she's much more energetic on stage now in her solo career than when with NW🤘❤, yet she managed to keep that same majestic aura and otherworldly presence! And at the same time with a distinctly dramatic expression and deep, emotional human renditions!
Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her stunning solo work too. I love her, she's such an inspiration to me, her voice and renditions give me deep, spiritually magical Eargasms💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜. Anyway, her solo musical rock/metal style (apart from her classical music and xtmas concerts, and other "out of the box" side projects of hers) is very unique and not easily defined, though it still has plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, epic orchestral arrangements, dramatic "ingredients" and her remarkably dark, powerful classical vocals (though now she mixes a bit her classical singing tecnique with a few more "contemporary" sounds and her chest voice in a very singular way). Her solo work is exquisite and much more versatile, she incorporates and merges aspects of different stilistic elements, and is always experimenting new things in her music without any fear of exploring the unusual, so you never really know what to expect or what she'll do next, AND I find it magnificent, thrilling!!! Plus I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to recreate her old days with NW, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, back to the list in the next comment 😆(I tried to make a selection as short as I could, really difficult to choose from her vast, outstanding repertoire lol, but there's so much more to explore as you go):
