Nice lathe. I would say you were very fortunate to find a Lathe like this in such amazing shape for it's age. Certainly going to be a nice addition to your shop. Have a great weekend.
I really enjoyed you intro to your Lion, made in Bulgaria, I worked in a shop here in Central Florida in 2010 that had this same machine..made in Bulgaria... .I think it was a bit longer though....it did not have the Lion importer/distributor name plate... the other name plates had the same issue as yours as most anodized aluminum ones do....hard to read I believe the Machine was from the 1970's but I'm not sure on that, but it is still operating... the shop started in 1934 .. the only issue I ever saw was issue with he electrical, the machine was over 30 years old at the time..... the very large spindle bore was great and very useful....and the gap bed came in very handy also.... Best Wishes on your lathe and its resurrection....Paul in Orlando
What are chances it’s crazy. I bought mine 2 months later as a result of his purchase. Even crazier is I have had mine almost as long and you all are just seeing the project now 🤦♂️
I want to correct some couple of things. The fabricator is ZMM not lion . Lion is the importer . The spindle is Din 55027 . Is the same as camlock , same taper , same dimensions just different studs so you need just to make other studs and use camlock . I have done that . The older American machines doesn’t have heat treated ways this has , that is why no were. And the most important thing is the joystick control … is the best control ever
Sir, your enthusiasm, integrity and passion are to be commended! I enjoy all your video productions and always look forward to your next release. I think this Lion lathe will become a true centerpiece in your shop. I am looking forward to this coming overhaul series. Thanks for sharing. God Bless. WWG1WGA
I haven't had any dealings with a Lion lathe. I have 3 LeBlond's and I love them. I have completely rebuilt the 17 x 120 and the 13 x 36. The 13 x 72 is at my sons shop and my grandson uses it. When I get a chance, I will trade him for one of these that I have in my shop and rebuild thar one. I look froward to watching the rebuild of this old Lion!!! Make it roar!!!
OK!! I watched the hear box tear down ... (newer viewer here) .. and went to find the first video of the rebuild!!! (I found the Play List!!! :) Awesome
Interesting, Josh Topper just did a video on his Lion he bought 2 years ago new, the ins and outs.... good luck with getting that baby in shape....cheers from Florida, Paul
We use C-locks in England ! Lathe has a great spec , Dean Smith & Grace is the big lathe I aim for , they are becoming very cheap for the spec and reputation. Good luck with the revive , look forwards to seeing it all up.keep em coming
Halfway through the playlist which is great. Can you tell me the history of the lathe before the previous owner? I’m really interested as to how it got to the US and when. Was it after Glasnost ? Was it modified from 50 to 60 Hz or manufactured for sale in the US. Maybe it was built in the 90s. Just guessing.
Very nice score there. Perfect size to do some real work and not take up too much room. Bummer on the odd mounting system for chucks. I was told the reason Monarch and American had so small spindle thru holes was because they used larger spindle bearings than other manufactures.
Cool man, I really like your kind of video, this will be a really interesting project. Unfortunately, we dont have that kind of lathe videos here in Brazil.
I’ll watch every video. Just don’t paint it pink please. Loved the back story and it is exactly how I feel when I get to steward a machine or tool from someone who has passed.
17:09 In Chicago area, is there large scale: building of infrastructure (utilities, railways, roads, houses, bridges, tunnels, factories, warehouses), ore mining, oil/gas industry, solar energy, shipbuilding, wheat and other grain growing, livestock farming, winemaking, fruit growing, etc that would bring 10+ foot turning jobs? You mentioned Kurtis. All across Australia there is, and will be, many such industries locally. All are large scale industries there. Australia has wealth of resources rest of world direly needs. Australians will need an massive infra building just for their military in future to keep their wealth secured. Chinese already have to buy nearly everything Aussies produce.
There are those big jobs but a majority of work is less than that. I am sure there is enough work to be had. Seen lots of big lathes a shops (long) but those lathe also sit 90 percent of time. Catch 22 I guess. I’ll get a bigger one someday but it’s a big investment that would probably pay off over time but until then I’ll work with this lathe until then.
Not knowing as I do not do machining, but if you cant get a back plate due to it being european, is that not something you could make with a milling machine and lathe?
i'm a total noob, never touched a lathe in my life, so please pardon the question if it should be obvious - why can't you machine a new spindle mount? it sounds like that issue is going to end up costing a lot of time in chuck swaps over the years.
You would need to machine an entire new spindle ideally. You could run an adapter but ideally you want the chuck as close to bearings as possible. For rigidity
Love the articulate description of the stated purpose. Now I understand exactly what your going to achieve. I will be here for the entire project.
Much appreciated
You're going to love using that machine, and we're going to love watching you. Thanks for the video. Josh sure likes his Lion!
Yes I bought mine because of his
Nice lathe.

Really about the backing plate. That’s great news

love the backstories and detailed overview of the machine....especially pros and cons.
Of course me too
It's gonna be fun to watch this journey
Indeed
I am incredibly jealous, what a machine, I would just sit around polishing it all day and never get any work done.
lol yeah we will put it to work
Great video, looking forward to watching the series for this project.
Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate it
OK!! I watched the hear box tear down ... (newer viewer here) .. and went to find the first video of the rebuild!!! (I found the Play List!!! :) Awesome
Welcome aboard!
Keep up the good work. I enjoy all your videos and I will be watching the Lion lathe progression.
Thanks, will do!
Nice looking lathe...the condition of the ways is fantastic. Enjoyed the back story 👍👍
Thanks
Going to be a fun project! Looking forward to see what needs to be done and how it all turns out.
Thanks greg
Hello, greetings from Bulgaria, this lathe is a model C13MB produced by ZGMM Pernik, a very strong and tough machine
Yes thank you sir
dude that's sick. I can tell you there I'm gonna see the whole series and then the completion as well haha good luck with that Lion 😊
Thanks for sticking with us on this project
Great Project.
Thanks Randy

I will check it out
Can't wait to see it!!!!!!! Awesome 😎
Us too!
I liked the insight of the different brands and changes through the years. Did you do a video of moving and unloading the machine?
I didn’t dorry
Looking forward to the move video!
Happy Saturday everyone 🌴☀️

I have no idea about the history of the lathe prior to me getting it really other than when I shared in the video
Just found and subbed to your channel today. Looks like I have some videos to catch up on.
I appreciate it man

Maybe I know these spindle bearing are pretty beefy as well
It a great machine and good luck with it. I forgot to ask in the last video what are you wearing over your shoes?
Everyone asks maybe I should make a video on it I answered in some of the other comments
I have the exact same lathe but branded different. Bulmak/Pernik.
Hmm you like it
@@VanoverMachineAndRepair Yes indeed. I watch your restoration videos like a Netflix series 😎
Espero ver ese gran trabajo y ese gran mantenimiento se que lo aras bien amigo empieza de una para ver lo que tienes para el torno👏👏👏🇻🇪
Thanks

Unfortunately, we dont have that kind of lathe videos here in Brazil.
I was impressed by the condition of the bed, it is really good.
Yes indeed
Holy crap, now that's an arm ripper.
Yes indeed
Make yourself a hollow tail stock with 4 jaw through chuck for big jobs?
I’ve never seen one of those before
What are those things on your shoes? I've never seen that before, interesting!
Cast boot levelers. I use them to help me since I am on my feet all day
It is Bulgarian ZMM C13B lathe. His Sliven town made.
Thank you
2nd Lion lathe video, 1st by Topper Machines
Yep not planned either
So when are you getting a knee mill??
I got one just looking for a bigger one
I’ll watch every video. Just don’t paint it pink please. Loved the back story and it is exactly how I feel when I get to steward a machine or tool from someone who has passed.
It will not be pink don’t worry. White and gray I think still pondering though
Ral 6033 - Mint turquoise. A really unique colour. Would be fitting☺️
I would imagine all that mass would help absorb more vibration and maybe get a better finish with those big cuts.
Exactly

Тот самый американский станок, который должен был догнать и перегнать наш ДИП советский. 😅

Honestly camlock is the standard in EU.....today.
In America as well
it is not lion lathe it is originally mashtroy.
Maybe it’s lion now
You are gonna need a 4 jaw.
It’s on the lathe
