I know I’m just a “white vegan” so I have no knowledge or right to talk about this but I am barely above the poverty line for a family of 4 and have learned I can feed my family a lot cheaper being vegan. Im going to go back to my white corner now, with my cone of shame and can of beans.

I live in one. The markets are cheap as here. And the most abundant animal products in the wet markets tend to be fish and eggs
But there not vegan by choice they vegan because they can’t afford meat. That’s not the same thing as being vegan.

Tofu isn't even a western food, or expensive, it's just a fatty Bean that makes a good curd.
Chickpeas and vegetables? They are right here in the ikarian stew the Happy Pear twins taught me how to make! Along with two other types of beans, onion, garlic, carrots, collards, whole grain pasta and lots of tomatoes and tomato sauce! Oh, and leeks!

Kidding aside, veganism is NOT a diet. Vegans eat the same variety of foods and cuisines as everyone else. Virtually every dish is veganizable.
People will use the internet to do just about everything in their lives, but when it comes to going vegan, they suddenly don't know how to use the internet.

Same. I might buy some of the soft tofu occasionally for nice cream, maybe three times a year, plant based burgers maybe every other month. And I must be the only seven year vegan who's never had seitan. I've just looked at it at the grocery store and just never bought it. But I will sometime I'm sure. Just goes to show, though.

This girl is from American. Girl tofu is not expensive. At MOST it’s $2.50. Last time I check chicken was 3x that price.

Frozen veggies and fruits are at most $3-$4.
Can of beans at most $1.75
There are even cheap vegan meats that are at most $4
Also Tofu isn’t a “white thing”, tofu was made in asia. Veganism isn’t about white ppl, it’s about the animals.
Also I don't eat a lot of tofu but I think so far I've only had boy tofu. I'm going to try girl tofu next though 😉💃🏼
In Aldi you can get cans of beans and canned vegetables with no salt or low sodium for 50 to 70 cents. When Adams has sales all Goya beans, a usually more expensive brand, go for 88 cents each, and it seems they have those sales pretty often. Cans of beans and tomatoes and tomato sauce are the some of the cheapest things you can buy and the low salt or sodium free varieties do not cost any more. You can also find tomato sauce and pasta sauce with no oil, Aldi has a marinara sauce that is $0.89 at all times, the organic large glass jar of their own organic tomato sauce is about a $1.19
In the Philippines, chicken is $4-5.
Tofu is $2-3.
Bruh in my country I can get a bunch of chicken wings for 2.50. Tofu/vegan food is literally over 6 bucks
Most asians are hardcore meat consumers so yes, how tofu is eaten in the west is a very white people thing. It's veganised here but Asia literally likes to mix like fish stock/sauce into it

Some animals have better eyesight, hearing, sense of smell than us which proves we are not superior beings. We are just different and we also have disadvantages. All species have advantages and disadvantages.
Insects are important to the ecosystem and pollinate which is important for food. Some species keep the oceans clean and that's where most of our oxygen is from.
Humans are responsible for harming the environment and yet people think we are the superior ones. Our species has been destroying the environment that many other species have been protecting. Many species have even gone extinct and there are endangered animals all over. Humans are not better. We are not above nature and should respect and care for the planet.

Are Hispanics not aware that the consumption of animal products in large amounts is a vestige of _colonization_ ? This always amazes me as someone non-Hispanic who spent a lot of time among Hispanics growing up due to part of my family having lived in South America. Like, the staple foods of Central and South America before the 16th century AD were plant foods.
I spend about 90EUR per month, eating tasty oats, beans, fruits, veggies and berries. And have wakame for iodine about 0.04€ per serving of daily iodine. My friend whom is a omnivore bodybuilder spends 2000 eur per month for fckin food. Like tf

Her outrage even at the IDEA of a comparison involving people of colour in an industry many years ago to animals, and at the use of the word “female” - it’s OFFENSIVE!! I think she's spinning us a tale here for her own convenience, purely in service to her agenda, but every bodega and gas station mini mart has at the very least, a can of beans, a box of pasta, a tin of sauce or tomatoes, a box of rice, probably a container of oats to make oatmeal(and even oat milk if you have access to water, a couple of paper towels, and a container), and on the counter by the cash register, likely a few random bananas oranges and apples also. There's also bread or rolls that are plant-based, peanut butter, jelly and the list goes on. Not talking about healthier only talking about available vegan foods

I am always amused by the animal overpopulation concern. How about the human overpopulation? US accounts for the 3rd largerst population in the world and a very wasteful lifestyle. How about that?!
I 100% agree that non vegans or anti vegans always use the argument that there would be an overpopulation of agricultural animals when the majority of those animals as David mentioned are breeded into existence just so humans can eat them. But the anti vegans never consider the overpopulation of humans and those humans choosing to continue to support animal expoiltion industries which is causing the majority of the environmental and climate change issues in addition to the oil industry and humans depending on a industrial/commercial system.

Humans are animals, always have been, always will be. We are totally comparable to nonhuman animals in a majority of ways, brains, nervous systems, the more obvious, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, tongue, legs, bodies....even in things they do that we also do.
Well animals eat other animals. And if humans and animals are equal. Why do you have a problem with us eating?

Sorry, but what crosses my mind is that she consumes animals and is attempting to justify her behaviour.
Why do I sense that she is also trying to differentiate between animals and humans when, in fact, humans are also animals? The fact of evolution which includes examining how individual organs of the bodies of humans and other animals are very similar and the more recent DNA evidence which indicates that all animal life is related and descended from common ancestors. How can anyone deny this in 2021?

Basic question: Is it moral to exploit another sentient living being for my own selfish reasons? Not even specifying if I'm referring to humans or other animals there, it could be either or even both. Just that question alone. I'm willing to bet, and hope, the vast majority of people would answer with a strong NO. And there's your answer, plain and simple, clear as a crystal. That should be all that needs to be said.

No matter how much time passes by, how much content is made available at their fingertips, the meat-eaters have the SAME set of questions and arguments or rather excuses for not going vegan.
People think nothing of going through the McDonald's drive through several times a week or buying an expensive steak then complain they are broke. It's hypocrisy. I just don't buy my Beyond Burger or vegan specialty items when I'm broke. I stick with potatoes, rice, bean, frozen veggies etc... which are very very inexpensive. I keep cheap spices on hand to make meals more interesting and yummy 😋.
