✅ About jlwii2000:
When I started my channel I did not choose a catchy name because I did not think that I would be a major model railroading video source one day, so I apologize for the strange name. My channel has a variety of info about Model Railroading in many scales, primarily HO scale. I try to respond to everyone's questions to help them along with their journey. Overall, I hope my relaxed yet descriptive approach to modeling will assist those new and old in this great hobby. - James

Thanks for taking the time to do this series. Ignore the "expert" criticism. Everybody was a beginner at some time in their hobby. It takes effort to do what you did trying to encourage us, and illustrate what you did. Much appreciated. I also enjoy your reviews of various engines. Good job on that too
Thanks for the help now I know the basics.
Your layout is looking Awesome!! Great videos too. Thank you.
What my dad, my brother and I do is also add a little bit of dish soap to the water and glue to break the surface tension.
Thanks for your time. As a beginner the series of videos was very helpful. I don't know where to start. I have a train. Lol. O scale. Probably research for a long time before I begin a layout.
Funny, his railyard looks almost identical to a frac sand yard that I did a cement spread job for south of San Antonio.
Great layout, great design... these series have been very very helpful, me and my bro are gonna hopefully start our track layout this year! awesome job man! GOOOOO Colts! LOL
Love the technique you use for ballasting
Thanks for this series, very informative. I look forward to using your tips and technincs.
Man your layout is looking great!!! Thanks for this series of videos on how to build your layout! At the moment my trains are still on the floor, but I am hopeful that I can build a layout with bench work soon! Anyways, thanks again and have great one! Bill
Yeah keeping a single ballast in between the tracks level is prototypical. In real life i think the way you have it would cause water to pool between the 2 lines therefore causing a wash out. i love the ballast colors you chose
And your layout looks awesome. Great job. Legit.
great setup and video man
cheers from australia
Awesome how to!! Keep up the good work!!
I used Woodland Scenics Gray Blend Fine Ballast. Its made for N scale, but IMO looks more prototypical for HO scale than the WS Medium Gray Ballast.
Your layout looks great!
What I do for ballast is put down the "wet water" solution then put ballast down and the put the solution over it again. I also put a little ballast in between the track like in actual railroads.
@mightydesign I think medium ballast but some people use fine.....medium is the closest size to the real stuff when scaled down.
@below they are code 100 concrete ties made by atlas they don't have the wooden texture and detailing and they also have an indent in the middle that wooden ties didn't have unless purposely made that way and of course they come colored in dolphin light grey and but painting them "sp dark grey" and some black in the middle will make it look more weathered
I'm reconstructing my layout now. I used ballast and it made a mess. I had to remove all the track, and then get some more track, which I bought with my store credit and only spent about $13 on gently used track. It's a small layout, about the size of a dining room table. It's enough to make an oval, but room for sidings. I figured small hammers will be good with track nails, because normal hammers bend the nails making a mess. I could also glow the tracks down with crafting glue. What do you think?
hi @jlwii2000 i'm totally new to train models and im probably going to start doing a model with my son soon. so first of all thank you for these videos, they are great. I was woundering why do you have to glue the balast down?
The white sleepers are concrete sleepers; the flex track comes like that.
the best way to balllast is 30/70 mix of PVA + water and a big ass syringe and a lot of patience.. Dude alcohol is for drinking not wasting on track ...
but fair play to you your vidios are an inspriration..
i am going to ballast my track but not the turnouts, not gna risk it
have you tryed poweded pva glue mix it in with your ballast the once happy with the look just a spray with walter
Probably should've used some white Elmer's glue and apply a small, long bead and just do what you're doing after you apply the glue so your ballast doesn't fall off when you move.
I saw soething like this in one of my magazine issues and they thinned them, and I don't know what that is. Could you explain it to me? I think taking the spike heads off is simpler and probably less time consuming. Looks nice.
@Jjgould21 woodland scenics grey blend mixed with cinders
What kind of ballast rock is that, and where could I find it?
You should check out RUclips user Vermonter Railfan's style of vacuuming basalt. It's beter than vacuuming up the ballast with a vacuum.
Building A Small N Scale Layout Part 6a: BALLAST
You're spraying to closed to the track and a spoon would give you better control for ballasting. Anyway good job!
does EZ track for ballasting look just as good?.
hey just wondering why you have painted the sleepers white or are they suppose to be concrete did they come like that or did you paint them.
warren pamment it comes like that
Colts fan? So, should they trade Manning or keep him?
How many Yard tracks do you have?
how did you make the crap circle in your last video it was really cool i want to make one for my layout.
LOL it's CROP CIRCLE not CRAP CIRCLE....... ahahahahahahahhahaha hAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
oops lol
XD
92TheMiner92 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
who runs the camra for u?
just as a heads up you might want to change your title to "from start to finish" from "from start to flish" ;)
How come you don't just put the 50/50 glue/water into the spray bottle?
what's up which track is better
code 83 or code 100
I did mines with 83 code
Does the scenic cement effect the trains if it gets on the rails or do i have to clean off the rails
Why not ballast first before laying the track?
Don't you first brush glue on THEN put ballast????
Nope.
It is too hard to wiggle tracks in, and if you make a mistake, its harder to fix
@bubbachub211 Flnish ;)
