I'm pretty sure that my mom and her ex( my ex stepdad) got in a fight over this song. He's a big fan of John mayer and kinda hates Taylor swift. My mom def agreed with Taylor and the ex disagreed so....... But I still feel like it's such a stupid thing to fight abt. And he was talking to her about it first, and like he knew how she would react lol
This song if you pay attention to the lyrics Is about every single person who’s looked back at what they could’ve done better but didn’t. As much as it’s about another person (who ever that is) it’s also about ownership and realizing you fucked up. It’s what we all do.
I think it’s less about regretting things that you fucked up and more about regretting the outcome, recognizing that she didn’t know any better but wishing she had done anything differently so it didn’t end up this way. If anything it’s the opposite of taking ownership, calling herself a child compared to the grown man who hurt her, that’s not really something you can be responsible for.
To me it feels more like blaming yourself and having other people blame you for so long, and then realizing you weren't the party in the wrong, but still internalizing the blame and shame people put on you even though you were too young to know any better and realistically should've been protected, but also being so messed up by it it haunts you. However some of the lyrics resonate with my trauma so I could be wrong
@@river6032 I think you nailed it. Taylor’s album resonates of some kind of awakening or realization that we can all find in ourselves, it’s very human, authentic.
Heyyyyy John I know you’re not reading this but here’s a message to you “cause a message in a bottle is all I can do “ so here it is..................I FREAKING HATE YOU JOHN “I’M NOT EVEN SORRY NIGHTS ARE SO STARRY “😡😡😡
To be fair, the guy targeted her to write a duet. He planned all along. He knew she was a fan and kept praising her publically. I am not trying to say that she was in fact a CHILD (although she was a teen that looked much younger) but he really took time to groom her. Kinda bizarre. Jake Gylenhaall and her gap age was smaller and they had a short relationship with some kind of routine. Kkkkk as she describes. He took her to meet the parents and met hers.... so.... that was more promising.
And then she’s like “I don’t care at all in any way whatsoever about anyone you THINK I wrote a song about lol anyway here’s Dear John”-girl. You just released Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve.
Yes dear John is a song on her speak now album. I wanna say song 5/6 ish. That’s how it relates. It is not the same as like a dear John letter but I’m sure it’s a metaphor or something by titling the song dear John.
What we’re their ages when they dated? How long did they actually date? This is brutal. Also, used to love John Mayer when he was playing small places in Atlanta. He was so chill and actually quite nice. But how someone is in relationships can be a whole different personality, the one deep inside.
@@thebelovedtree honestly used to not even bat an eye at any age differences, but the older I get those age gaps feel especially creepy. I’m way too annoyed by the title since the phrase I’m familiar with is “could’ve, would’ve, should’ve” (or rather, “could’a, would’a, should’a”) and the order being different is so minor and my negative reaction is so over the top!
My brain just says “NOPE, ignore that & say it the right way” every time. I’m usually nitpicking at those things, but for some reason it’s like this doesn’t even exist, proceed. I never get the song title right unless I think about how it’s out of alphabetical order. 🤪
I damn sure never would've danced with the devil, AT NINETEEN and the gods honest truth is that the pain was heaven AND NOW THAT IM GROWN IM SCARED OF GHOSTS

Well of all this actually taylor swift parents&fam seems pretty chill . Not that I mean anything bad. Just that it seems kinda cool but Im not familiar with how chill they're
Nah it’s totally John Mayer. The give away was that she was 19 and talking about age difference. She didn’t really date anyone that long other than her current partner. Jake is totally All to Well and she give you her age as well there.
The song is 'Would've, Could've, Should've', but she never says 'should've in it. The reason is because she used 'should've' in Dear John, so this song is just the Would've, Could've's. Also, the religious references were due to the fact that the home he lived in was an old church. It's John.....
@@juhi2708 She does say she would have stayed righteous and references God throughout the song as if she regrets it.
