Don"t forget when pulling something onto the trailer you are pulling against your truck's transmission's parking brake and you could break it. Someone needs to be in the truck with their foot on the brake when using the winch
That's a good tip. I always chock the wheels of my truck when parked, so I would be pulling on the wheel chocks lol
Holy crap I never thought of that! Thank you!
Looks like you did a fine job on the winch install. Good reuse of the bucket for the storing the winch controller & other items. Looking forward to hearing how well the winch works. Stay safe.
Thank you! I hope it will get the job done!!
Good job. I need to do this. Couldn't have come at a finer time. So much better than a hand winch or come-alongs. Thank you
Thank you! I have been planning this project for years, and finally got it done lol
Nice touch with the solar maintainer
Never thought of that
👌🏼
Thank you!!
Nice job of explaining the how toos and things. They sure are a helpful tool. Take Care
I tried to make it a decent "how to" type video. Thanks!!
Just subbed. I gotta have a winch installed on a utility trailer for junk removal. I'm not a fabricator so I'll leave that to the professionals. You knocked it out of the ball park my friend. One Aim, One Love, One God. 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Wow this is the exact same winch I was looking into welding on a trailer 😂 guess we all think alike
Thank you I just bought this winch and wanted to see how it should be mounted!
Nice install. You could put gas springs on the lid. Ones like on a truck tool box lid. Have a good week
That's a great idea- thanks Jacky!!!
Great set up thx for sharing
Wow! What a cool build and use of waisted space.
Love this! Thank you for the video.
Thank you for sharing! You always do a great job
Thank you!! :)
Nice job on the winch install. I agree with Jeff on tha flashlights and LEDS. LOL.
LOL Thank you!!
Put a magnet on the back of the winch to hold your box lid open.
You did an amazing job sir thanks for sharing
Really nice Job I have been trying to pick up some steel to redo mine nice
Great video dude! This was extremely helpful to me!
Good job. Good video
Nice job getting the winch hooked up and all the touch-up work done. You have a nice system there. Keep us informed how the solar panel does keeping the battery charged. Full watch.
Thank you! I will definitely do an update on the solar charger in the future :)
I am also interested in this. What I was planning to do for mine is connect the 12v that goes to the brake away battery and also connect it to the battery for the winch.
nice work!
Thought you did a decent job. Looks good. Installing one on my trailer this week. Spent all day trying to get an older forklift on and it was a nightmare!! Realized I would be better off with a winch.
Very nice.
Job
I like! Want a winch on my trailer now.
If you wanted to make the winch portable.
You could use Reese trailer hitch on the front of your trailer.
This way you could use it behind your truck or whatever you got a trailer hitch on.
Excellent idea- thanks for sharing!!
I absolutely love this idea! Will be starting a project for this today!
Thank you for showing the "mundane" things such as putting the controller box on... cause that had me baffled... although yours seems to just go right on with no effort... I had to put all my weight on it to get it on. Must be those farmers arms that I don't have. Scored up the rods just a hair... but I finally did get it on.
Hi, you could Ve split the U beam into two and weld each half on both sides of the trailer header that way you could save some trailer space
Looks great is that design strong enough to pull up 3/4 ton trucks gas/diesel?
Very nice…
Nice minimalist fab. Have you thought about a vertical piece below the winch? From top rail down to bed?
I was thinking about the wires being in the way of the lid. If wouldn't be in the way try turnung the controle box around. Just a thought.
Save ya self a headache later and wrap some kind of insulation around where the wire are touching the frame. They'll last longer. Don't ask me how I know but, they will rub the coating off.
Thanks for the tip!!!
Tip: disconnect wires. Slide rubber heater hose over wires. Reziptie down and reconnect.
Very nice job. I purchased one recently, but it didn't come with a circuit breaker. Not even listed on parts list. What size is that breaker?
I see your silver insulation on your wall I'm getting to ready to insulate my shop for the winter. It's straight out in the open and very hot this summer what type of insulation do you use and do you recommend it. And how is your Wentz doing so far and how long have you had it. Love your video thanks
I bought the Badlands 12000 for $320 after tax. I will mount it on my home made flat bed truck. I will be uploading some videos soon. Awesome video.
Thank you!!
@@dehavenfamilyfarm I just won a 2012 F250 for $800 so I need to get the winch going. We will see how the winch performs.
After You are done putting your winch on your trailer don’t forget to put winch wire boost on the connectors and also harbor frate does sell a wireless winch remote so you can buy at harbor frate and it has a 50 foot range on it and you can buy the badland wireless winch remote for 50$ bucks I also have a badland wireless winch remote myself and it works awesome
Thanks for the tip on the wireless remote!!
Good video, I’m about to install a winch on my trailer and was looking for ideas on battery and maintaining it, how is the maintainer working? Do you ever have to charge the battery or does it keep it charged up?
You ever figure out if solar panel is worth it
The cotter pin does not get any weight on it.
Looks good!
One thing about it is, you'll find out how good it is when you try to pull something too heavy 😂🤣👍👍
LOL, for sure! I'm not a professional fabricator, so hopefully it holds together!
@@dehavenfamilyfarm it's kinda like they used to say about bale spears, if they make it past the first 25 bales, they'll last...😎
Stick welder!! Dont see that on RUclips much!!
Do you have a couple blocks that you can put on the cable to help lighten the load for a bigger pull?
Congrats on 2k!!
Good idea for the second channel! Wife and i are doing some gardening projects and i was going to just make a couple videos. Not a whole series though.
Your second channel is a hot topic now. Maybe it will grow fast?!
Thank you! Yeah, the stick welder is old school, and I really need a mig welder.... and a plasma cutter, and a new chop saw lol
Great hook up.. what kind of solar panel and how did you hook it up to the battery to get that charged all the time? Do you have to plug that solar in a outlet?
It was just a cheap solar charger from amazon. It has clips on the wiring harness that clip right to the battery terminals.
Good job, however, I wish you could have drilled a hole down through the trailer wood, weld a solid 1-1/2 pipe and run you two wires down, drill a hole at the back of the battery box, use an electrical elbow to route the wires into the box/battery
Make it look good and tidy
Great video ! Great job ... You are not concerned with the explosive gasses venting from the battery in the confined space ? I have a camper and the battery has a shroud that vents the battery gases.
It's tricky to vent it and keep the box watertight.
Those ‘small’ cotter pins are used on 9,000lb car lifts.
How do you. Charge the winch. When your pulling.
Where did you get the winch cover?
so how does the battery keep charge???
I'm wondering if there would've been a way to make a winch base that would rotate forward and backward. That way it can be left in the forward position for use but if you needed the extra space at the front of the trailer you could fold it backwards after using the winch to where it would interfere a little with the storage door but overall it would still work just fine.
Was thinking the same but a less permanent install. I am thinking of something like a tow hitch tube welded mount with a huge pin to hold in place then remove for storage or for another other trailer
@jlg8689 I'm doing this same setup. I already have a hitch socket on the front and back of my truck. Welding one to the frame of my trailer will allow me to move my winch to 3 different places as needed. I was originally looking at 2 winches, 1 permanently in the front and 1 on my trailer but this will allow me more flexibility. My tip is to add 1ga wiring running from your trucks battery along the vehicles length and mount a quick disconnect to your rear bumper. That way you won't need an additional battery and run it from your truck entirely. My diesel already has 2 batteries, why not use them?!
The battery, does it need recharging? How to?
Were can I purchase the battery maintainer?
Great job!! I hope you see this because I think I'm screwed if you cant answer it. How did you know where to drill the bolt holes??? I have a similar mount already welded up, I cant figure out how to mark for drilling because of this cast aluminum, or I would just weld it.
I made a cardboard template of the holes on the bottom of the winch, and took the template to the base and was able to mark and drill the holes in the correct locations. I hope this helps!
@@dehavenfamilyfarm thanks for replying!! That's what I ended up doing! Everything is good to go. I had a brain fart I guess, felt like a moron afterwards haha
Can't u just use a tape measure?
Put 2 gas struts on the accessory box
Could you list info about the solar system. Would like to do that on mine.
I am sorry, I made this video a while ago and don't remember exactly which solar charger I bought. I just searched Amazon and bought one with good reviews 🙂
Have those cables wore down from going under that edge (frame) to battery yet?
nope
what rod (6011,6013,7018 etc.}did you use and at what amps?
7018 and around 90 amps. You may have to adjust your amperage depending on your steel.
How do you wire up the wench ? Can you connect a car battery too it ? Also can you wire the battery to charge on the alternator in the car ?
I use an energizer quick connect charge cable that runs from my trucks battery along to the back where I mounted the quick disconnect to the rear bumper. From there I can power the winch and remove the cables easily when needed.
You should have gotten the wireless controller that is sold separately it’s only like 60$
Where did you get the winch cover from?
Amazon
Where did u get that winch at? And how much
Harbor Freight. I just bought mine couple weeks ago. It was like $349 here in Flint Michigan.
Nice video, except for all the extra talking not related to the installation.
