I think some people forget the true nature of the gt86. It's like a blank piece of paper and the owner can create their masterpiece and express their vision through this car. So many directions and limitless possibilities.
Elijah Vang Exactly extremely well said! And there are so many people out there saying ohhh the 86 tricked us into thinking It was fast ohhh 0-60 was soooo slow and some very stupid complaints of that nature.
As one of our viewers pointed out, we totally misspoke when we called Dan's supercharger centrifugal- it's a twin-screw. We're dummies and +XxMammalxX is smart.
I love my mostly stock BRZ, but I understand why some people want more power from it. I wish they offered both. But I do enjoy hanging with the Porsches and Corvettes in the turns before they blow me away on the straights. 😎
It's a nice fkin car I don't race. I've always liked an rsx but it's so old so I'll get a frs. 86..brz. It just looks nice and drives nice. Speed honestly is least of my concern.
Awesome video guys just one thing to note, the reason Subaru doesn't want to add forced induction to the BRZ is because it will take a lot of sales away from the WRX which is one of their flagship cars. Thanks!
The very first car I that I bought at age 20 was a '96 NA Mazda MX-5 (Miata) with the 133bhp 1.8L engine. Stock as a rock, except for some good Pirelli tyres. It gave me four years of driving everywhere right on the speed limit, regardless of road conditions or weather. Four years of cheeky late-night slow speed oversteer around the backstreets. Four years of top-down summer cruising with my GF in the passenger seat, loving life. I never felt like I was at serious risk of breaking the car or hurting myself/somebody else by overcooking it, had a great time, and I never got a single speeding fine. A mildly worked-over BRZ seems like a perfect spiritual successor to my beloved Mazda. You don't need heaps of power to put a huge grin on your face.
You see, I thought the same thing before I sold my 2001 Miata for a 2018 BRZ. I never felt like I was missing anything with my Miata. Every moment behind the wheel was a blast. The BRZ just doesn't have that same magic. Mazda found an unmatchable formula. No one can even put it into words, Miatas are just fun lol. So with that in mind, people often feel like something is missing with the BRZ and the first glaring hole is in the power. Just my feeling after making that switch.
@@yo_its_devo I would love to see more 86 owners push for weight reduction first before adding power - lightweight wheels, battery and seats, pull the rear seats that no one sits in, etc. Yes it would make them less comfortable but I think that's part of the Miata magic - you're not isolated from road noise or wind noise and it's harder to go from point a to point b without thinking about it. Plus weight reduction would add to the fun factor without making the speeding tickets more expensive.
2 years late to this comment. But I'm 17 now and this car is among some of my dream cars. I also like the mitsubishi eclipse and ford gt, although I'll probably never own a ford gt

Nissan needs to bring back the 240sx to compete with these especially if they gave us in USA a stock turbo'd version (We never got sr20 engines only the na KA). Affordable rwd manual cars that you can mod until your hearts content that aren't all electronic bs and handle good with just enough power to be fun is a great platform to build from. Hopefully Nissan brings back the 240sx one day, that would be awesome.
Will it be possible to get an affordable rwd car, with a decent engine, not dependent on a computer these days? Every time I visit a show room the engines are shrinking in size while in-car electronics are getting out of hand.
Excellent point at the end about how forced induction isn't completely necessary. Sometimes upgrading suspension and tires makes a car feel completely different.
I love my 86, I've had it for two years now going on three soon enough but I have never really felt the need for the car to have more power, that playful spirit is something I feel is often lost in modern cars which makes it such a refreshing car to drive. I will say though better suspension and tire wouldn't hurt but the best place to put all that extra money is track time.
Yeah. I dusted a highly visually modified frs that was slammed, had a rocket bunny kit and a massive gt wing. In my manual 230 hp mercedes c class. Lol.
That hyper blue BRZ is just sex same exterior mods i would do except maybe a carbon duck bill spoiler instead to accent the black and blue theme more. But i love the FRS/BRZ if they had just a little bit more power like 250+ it would be even better. Great video guys and keep up the awesome work.
Amazing video as always, I love the side to side comparison. A lot of people hate on cars that don't have a lot of power but when it comes to cars like these they miss the whole point. The fun you can in a car when you can safely drive it to its limits on the road is unmatched.

As a BRZ owner who bought mine stock, you really don't need forced induction to get some power out of the FA20 motor. With a full exhaust, catless UEL headers, intake, and a tune it really throws you back in your seat screaming all the way up to redline.
"Comes from a line of various BMW's??" Look at the Z4 with over 300 horsepower and you see that BMW understands the joy in slamming tons of horsepower in a small chassis. It would be more honest to say you cant afford horsepower than to say it is part of some plan of the engineers to deny this horsepower purposely. Trust me, those engineers begged for every single HP they could get from the accountants at Toyota and Subaru.

the doge Everyone has heard that argument a 1000 times. Never said it had to be a camaro fighter in a straight line. Unfortunately in every day driving, there won't be enough of your said scenario, which gets me back to my first point.
Where are you driving that has minivan drivers willing to speed that hard with kids in the back? It'd be a dream come true if all the minivan drivers over here are that fast, cuz over here they're going the 2nd slowest right after the semi-trucks. You can literally overtake them with a plain RAV4 without even breaking traffic laws in everyday driving (I do it all the time). In everyday driving, you'll almost never encounter drivers willing to push their vehicles at speeds where power or tuning really matters.
We top out faster than v6 chargers mustangs ect, you've obviously never raced on a freeway, I just drove 10 hours to Arizona from California and I beat most cars because top speed, it's not all 0-60 times obviously an American muscle will take you at a stop sign but not in the long run. A v8 even won't in California because belts, the belts in Japanese cars top out higher because kmh only by like 10 mph tho lmao
