  • Firstly, sorry about the Audio - I forgot to turn the shotgun mic on!!
    Secondly, I bought the Velar on 1st September 2017, and this is the review of my 1 year Anniversary with the Range Rover Velar, covering the Top 5 things I still love about the Velar after a year of driving it, The Top 5 Regrets of things I wish I purchased when I first ordered the Velar, and finally, a couple of things I wish Land Rover would work on in future models of their cars.

    Outstanding and straightforward review of a Land Rover! I have seen many reviews but most just seem to fumble through it or try so hard to make it about themselves than the vehicle being reviewed! Oh, and what made your review so amazing was the practicality of the top 5 thumbs up & thumbs down, which made so much sense!! Thank you!!!

    Here's a thought. I always buy used. I drive a pre-owned fully loaded Range Rover Sport. The original owner paid the big money for it. I got it with crazy low miles after the lease turn-in.
    Buy used next time and get every feature you want.

      @@tom_-qq9ic I 100% agree. I was just suggesting that for all the options he wishes he had that maybe he didn't have the money to fully option it out.
      But for sure if a person has the money the only way to go is to get every possible option.

    Velar V6 configuration is a wonderful option on the open roads and mountainous climbs I have found in Australia. In essence the Power and "Bags" of Torque work wonders here. Simple features like Drive Pack / Convenience Pack with Activity wrist band whilst swimming and like is a most nifty feature to have on S Spec along with Exterior Black Pack with Grand Black Veneer make a simpler Spec model an absolute pleasure to drive and ownership appeal

    Good review thanks. FWIW the 4th you like you say is the door handles that pop out and fold flat but you go on describe standard keyless entry and keyless locking which works the same with any type of door handles. For example the Evoque has "normal" door handles with the exact same features you describe.

    Boot sensor is available with most cars which have an electric boot lid (it's also a pain if you accidentally move too close to your boot as it can cause the boot lid to close on your head, the one on my Merc has done that more than once), auto high beam assist is standard on a Mondeo Titanium and Vignale so damned right it should be standard on a Velar (this has been superseded by the "iLux" intelligent lighting cluster which is far better, both Vauxhall and VW/Audi offer this on their cars to my knowledge) , the lane assist is a pain in the arse and almost no one I know uses it for this reason. auto braking (collision avoidance system) is available on many cars and standard on a lot (particularly japanese marks). The handles thing is unique but of course the handles are pretty unique by virtue of them retracting into the car. And I agree its a looker.
    The step thing is an issue as this lad as he is a bit of a midget so not for everyone, the parking sensors? Is he saying that this comes without front parking sensors at all as standard? The camera's I get but surely front and rear parking sensors are standard on cars of this price and class? If not then thats an absolutely disgrace and JLR should hang their heads in shame..!..The heads up sat nav, I've loved sat navs since the early 2000's when i first got one (witchcraft...!), never thought I needed a heads up display version of one, not saying it's not a nice to have but I think most people get along fine with a standard screen, headed / cooled / massage seats....gimmick in my book, I've had heated seats in my last 3 cars and don't think i've ever turned them on, one of those things I just don't get although to be fair i know an number of people who absolutely love them. Pan roof, got this on my Merc and I wouldn't have paid extra for it, it's nice and flash and it impresses people but the amount of use I get out of it is so limited, also he mentioned hot weather, hot weather = sunlight and when the pan roof is open it shines in your eyes and burns your head so there's a price to pay.
    The apple car play thing is a surprise, the kind of people who buy these kinds of cars are likely to be apple fanboys (and girls), I work in the telco industry and have had to deal with apple and I can tell you based on my experience this is likely to be a money issue with Apple licence costs for the use of the software, it will be down to JLR to give ground as Apple won't..!..Wireless charging, again I'd expect cars like this have this as standard.

      Hi Hirbod - sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the comment. I've been to the workshop only once in the year, but not due to any faults I experienced myself - only by request of Land Rover who wanted to update the system to fix a known ventilation problem in a lot of Velar's. Other than that, never had any problems and still as reliable as Day 1. I have the D180 HSE R-Dynamic. 2.0L Diesel. Hope that helps :)

      Thanks for the comment. I haven't had any problems at all. They called it back 6 months in for a re-call to something around the ventilation system, but I never experienced anything like that. Do you own the Velar too? The screen malfunctions in what sense? Usually turning the car on/off does the trick to reset the screen, but wouldn't expect it in new cars like this.

    I have kick gate, cameras, high beam assist, navigation, heated leather seats, lane assist, keyless entry, remote start, full panoramic roof, and better gas mileage. All of these features I get but I spent 10's of thousand less on my SUV. Yeah I only have a 4 cylinder but I will take the lower power for a much less price. My point is while this Range Rover is nice, you can get an extremely nice safe SUV with all the same features and more as in my case. I purchased my SUV used with 23000 miles on it for 23,500 dollars. I was shopping for a Range Rover and when I saw I could get the same luxury features for soooooo much less I jumped on it!

    I also took delivery of a Velar on the 1st September 2017, a D300 HSE R-Dynamic, high spec. Lovely car, could not fault it. However, having driven RR Sports since they were first introduced, I just could not get used to the lower car like driving height. So, it has recently been replaced with a new RR Sport SDV6 HSE. Sure my wife thinks there is something wrong with me !

      Thanks for the comment Stewart! I love the design of the Velar myself, and for the price I think its great. I would however, love to get the RR Sport in a few years time as that's my favourite of them all, but never owned one. Not been able to afford one but I'm slowly working towards it! I'm not that tall so definitely need that step! haha.

      Trending Reviews Thanks for your reply. I’m sure you will continue to enjoy your Velar, as I said, it is a beautiful vehicle and I could not fault mine. Just me being a bit quirky about the ride height, compared to my previous Sports. My new Sport has been updated with the Infotainment system from the Velar, so the interior of both vehicles look very similar.
      When you next have the opportunity, look at the new Sport in a dealership and you may be pleasantly surprised. The cost difference is not that great and soon a one year old new spec Sport will not be much more than a Velar. I’m just waiting for an all electric EV Sport for my next vehicle. Have fun, that’s the important bit !

      Thanks Stewart - I will definitely check them out after another year or so, and see if I can pick one up. I've been hoping for an All Electric Sport rather than a hybrid, such one that it can rival something like the Tesla Model X, because then I'll go for it no matter what. Hopefully Land Rover are heading in that direction in the next couple of years!

    Great video my bro. Straight to the point... thinking of getting one my self as approved used!!! What would you recommend I should be paying if I get one on PCP! As I want to get the 2019 model!!! Thank you

      Thanks!! On PCP, they are quite expensive. Probably a 4 year PCP lease would be around £500-600, but its all dependent on how much deposit you put down and how long you want the lease to be. There are online finance calculators you can try out.

    Love that suv. I notice the passenger door handle remain out as the others went in. Are there any issues?. My girl had a sport 2015 it had tons of problems.

    • @TrendingReviews
      @TrendingReviews  5 лет назад +1

      That's the driver door handle, not passenger (UK is right hand side for driver). There is an option in the car settings to turn only Driver door handle out and keep others closed when opening from driver door. This can be turned on or off. Hope this helps :)

    Great review one year in. I too wish I got the massaging seats - and the front cameras as well. Regarding your wishes... Apple CarPlay & Android Auto are offered as an add-on in the 2019 model. There is rumor that the over-the-air updates will add it to our model year, but I am not holding my breath. :-) Also, Land Rover does offer a wireless charging in the Velar... its installed where the front cup holder is.

      Thanks for the comments! I just realised about the wireless charger as an add on too! Will keep an eye out for carplay and android auto next year!

      So, will I get everything, and I mean EVERYTHING U are wishing for by just ordering for Full-option series?
      I don't really understand the concept of "add-on" all these day, want to know whether I will have to specifically list those items out, or they are all included in a full option model.
      Also, I thought the height can be adjusted to suit an off- road terrain. Saw that in a clip and loved it!
      Overall, nice and informative review, quite intelligent.

      @TrendingReviews  5 лет назад

      Benjamin, to answer your questions - The full option means basically the Top spec version of the Velar, which will come with most of these options as standard, that do not come with the base or mid-level version. But when you build the car on the website, you have the option to add all of these options on, as an additional "Add-on" if they are not given by default - such as the Step. Only the Top Spec Velar comes with Suspension Control (Height adjustment of the car that you've seen in the adverts) - the base and mid-level versions do not come with this.
      Hope that helps. And thank you for the comments :)

      Hey mike do you have the range rover sport? I think it's your profile pic. If you do, how do you like the car? I'm considering purchasing that car. I right now have the rx350 f sport 2018 but I'm trading in my jeep for I think the range rover sport I need a bigger car

    Hey, you can always get a wrap done on your car. It costs about $200? Depending on the size of the car so you can get the full black roof 👍
